This is great video at it's finest. There should be blue-ray remakes of Styx's entire albums with you making the videos. I would buy right away!! And would help a new generation see and hear great music. Also, try scrolling the lyrics on the bottom maybe in small print so as not to obscure the action :).
I know we all have the right to choose but really did 9 people have to do that. I remember seeing them live a few times in the 70's and the sound and especially the light show were great and that is something that helps make this song so excellent
I watched it the other day, and it still creeps me out XD
Its stil awesome though, and was obviously a huge challenege to produce, as with anything Henson did. This is a good tribute to the film, even more so that you didit painflly over 2 months. Congrats.
godamn this song is tantalizing.. but why is only styx of the great bands have horribles videos on youtube... they should be inpired of pink floyd or supertramps videos...
Wow, you guys did a great job on this vid. I love this movie, and the music is very fitting. Thank to you, I just discovered a new band to appreciate. Thanks! :)
lol i remember when i was 6 or 7 when i watched dark crystal for the first time and OMG.........that movie scared the shit outta me! the part that really did it for me was when the head vultures looking thing died in the bed and was freaking looking dying made me hide under the covers
AWESOME PIECE - GREAT CUT! - Good Visual Choices with the Tempo & Pace right on track to the Music. Loved it! - It's my ambition to get my cutting skills up to being able to deliver as well. How long did it take you?
We were using 2 VERY limited computers at the time - one with the memory for final assembly, and one with the hard drive space to rip and cut. With the transfering of the files back and forth over a 10BaseT ethernet connection, I'd say it took us a couple of months.
Later, when we upgraded the computers, it cut our time down to about 8 hours for our subsequent videos.
Remember my church hand Bell Choir director was a young hip guy. He had the bells play an arrangement of this(the "Exorcist" sounding part ) The church sanctuary was completely dark except for candleabras in the six windows down each side! They proceeded down the middle aisle in their robes playing this while on stage a four piece string section and a guy on timpani drums joined in! One of the coolest things I've ever seen! Although the "gray hairs" in the congregation just about wet themselves!
I've always thought that styx was one of the greatest bands ever, At least between 1975 and 1979! It befuddles me how people grab onto songs like babe and mr.roboto when they have songs like castle walls, peices of eight, sweet madame blue and queen of spades! I hope people who see this video and like the song will take the time to discover what styx really was like! and should be rmembered like. peace!!! and thanks!
As one of the people who did latch onto things like mr. roboto and renegade, i think it's because i didn't know how amazing the rest of their music is, because you never hear it. But after hearing this, and a few of their other less known songs, i'm absolutely in love with the band now, and i'm buying a few of their albums so that i can take the time to really discover their music. Thanks!!
Yeah styx took a bit of a nose dive around the songs"babe"and"Mr.roboto."Two songs that gained them alot of popularity but lost them some respect. Before that though they were considered very dark! When I was growing all the rock n roll stoners in my city loved styx and condsidered them equal to the other great bands of the day. I still like to remember them that way. Find an album called "The serpent is rising" which is a lirttle rough around the edges but has some real sinister tracks!
37,000 views for a video that's been posted for more than two years isn't all that many. Most of the views were for the music, anyway, not the video. Your comment about bad styx albums being owned by everybody over 40 yrs. old doesn't make a lot of sense. Their oldest music was their best, as you already said... probably before you decided to get high and post another comment :)
The music on this album is some of the BEST ever made!! Listen to it with no video,,, in the dark with candles and incense!! YOUR mind, TOO, will wander Beyond the Castle Walls!!!!!
the pickup at 2:33 is what john carpenter based the theme for the movie halloween on. styx created it, but they copied it, but styx is nice so they didnt sue the pants off of john carpenter yet.
Haven't seen this movie in a while but it was good. After all people must realize that they intended to do the movie with nothing but actors in costumes and animatronics. In fact this was the very first movie ever to feature and entirely animatronic character lineup. And that Jim Henson helped pioneer the entire technology that is used widely today. Watch the making of the movie if you can. It is pretty impresive what they did with the limitations they were faced with during the production.
I respect that this type of movie may not be to your liking, but I again ask that you keep your comments clean. I don't like to remove comments, but I will if they continue to be vulgar. As for the movie, you have stated your opinion so I will state mine. I personally think that this movie is a great classic created by the genious that is Jim Henson. This video is a fan tribute to his vision. Thank you for sharing.

I havent heard this in years - Ive got the album on vinyl but have no record player. I used to play grand illusion from dawn till dusk way back when. someone scare me and tell me how old this album is? Id say 1980 rough guess.
First off, great song, great movie, decent video work. There is only one thing I really disliked about this video, and it's a common mistake made by many ametuer editors: The video footage doesn't have to follow the beat of the music. The insturmental part of the video was scrolling WAY too fast. Other than that, great video, thanx for posting!
Thanks for the comment. I do realize that it doesn't have to follow the beat, it's something we were experimenting with at the time - after all, it was only our 3rd video. :) However, I do appreciate the feedback. Comments like this help us to become better the next time around. :)
Frank Oz isn't going to be involved. I don't know if I should get excited, or cringe at the release of another "Neverending Story 2"... Time will tell. Are there any trailers out yet?
None yet, just some concept photos of what the Gelflings will look like as King and Queen. You can find all the news you want on google. It will be called Power of the Dark Crystal. Story seems kinda neat, but the good news is most of the people who worked on the original will be working on this one.
One of the great Styx classics. This is one of those songs that was just made to be listened to at 2 AM in the complete pitch black darkness....very relaxing.
You are exactly right. I would turn out the light and listen to this loud. I had it on 8-track, so it couldn't go too loud. What a great memory. Thanks
Excellent...except for the incongruous, mood-killing vocal sample and "copyright" text that you put at the end.

Styx classic song to DC? What will they think of next! Great job. It's so good to hear this song, it's been ages.

Part 2 of this movie comes out in 2008, should be sweet.

The movie is The Dark Crystal - done by Jim Henson - If you like fantasy and Jim Henson's puppet works, you will LOVE this movie!

Thanks

Yea!, and I remember my 8 track would switch in the middle of this song! I always hated that!
