  • If you look around 1:49 to 1:54 there is a picture of Idina Menzel on the the wall

  • I saw wicked for the first time this summer and it was honestly the mos amazing thing I'd ever seen in my entire life. I'd been avoiding spoilers and information about the show for YEARS, not knowing if I'd ever get a chance to see it and just praying that someday I would, and I loved every single second of it!

  • @30SecondAwesome We are rejoicifying to hear that you enjoyed the show!

  • As a Music Director & Keyboardist, it's my dream to play this show - this video & the conductor video are the most fascinating things I've seen.

  • @filmscoreman12 We are so glad you enjoyed the video. Who knows, perhaps you will play in WICKED someday. Remember, everyone deserves the chance to fly!

  • definitely do one on the keyboards! kurtzweil 2600s sound fantastic!

  • What a fascinating video!

  • @seregon07 We are glad you enjoyed it!

  • 2:45 i always wondered how they made that noise!

  • OMG Mandy! we need a proshot of her from the show!

  • What is the thing at 2:46 called?

  • @MrArtiny I think it may be a 'Waterphone'

  • I WANT TO CONDUCT THIS SHOW!!!!!!!!!!

  • @musicmanaj92 that would be really fun to conduct that show. if i'm not mistaken the waty that position works is you'd learn all the Keyboard parts then once you become Principle on Keyboard 1 you'd have double duty as Keyboard 1/Asst. M.D. then move up to the main M.D. when the main one leaves.

  • really great job, really great video!! (i would LOOOVE to play keyboards there, though ain't really no place for improvisation, ehheee)

  • I love how they talk about all these fancy, unique instruments and then what they actually show at the end is cymbals, tubular bells, and a timpani.

  • That's the best!

  • I'm slightly horrified that he says "Precussionist".

  • whats the thing at 5:27 called?

  • I am pretty sure both tours work the same: there is a core made up of the following: conductor, 3 keys, guitar, and drums. The union locals that are hired are as follows as of 2010: 1 keyboard, 1 percussion, 3 woodwinds, and 3 brass. Yes, the percussionist is expected to have all of that for the show. The company provides the more exotic stuff and the percussionist provides the rest. There is a reason why I know this.

  • Amazing. Every time I see another behind-the-scenes video, I'm awe-struck by the detail and amount of work that goes into every factor of this show. It's such a shame we make out only a portion of it from the audience. You can't appreciate every nuance without videos or tours like this.

  • How does this work with the touring productions? Wow, what an amazing man to do all that percussion for 1 show!

  • Interview the different companies! 2nd NATIONAL TOUR PLEASE! (<3 Natalie Daradich)

  • What an amazing job! Really awesome! Love Wicked!

  • TEAL WICKS!

  • This is awesome. I love that so much goes into each and every show! Bravo!

  • My dream is to one day work in a Broadway pit. (I play the viola) :)

  • I love this! Thank you so much!! I play violin and viola and it is my dream in life to play in this pit sometime before I die.

  • @NoGoodDeedWilliDo11: You'll have to do it on Broadway, as there is no string section in the touring show. As a viola player, it bothers me that the four keyboards do all the string work.

  • @ctcate Really? That is so upsetting to hear that there is no full string section in the touring company. With such a great production, why wouldn't you want to have that live string sound? Well, I should start practicing if I want to get in there.

  • Wicked is so amazing and I love watching these behind the emerald curtain videos- they're so fascinating!! :) I -3 OZ!!!

  • I was lucky enough to see four shows in Albuquerque earlier this year -- two from the house and two from the pit. I sat right behind the French horn and next to the soundproof percussion booth. I kept watching the booth -- it was fascinating. All the little things that continually go on in there make Wicked a wonderful show. As for where I was sitting in the pit -- the trap door that Elphaba opens to scream down at Dorothy? It was about five feet above my head!

  • wow!!!

  • wow i have a huge appreciation for this guy!

  • That is SO cool! Thanks for making and posting this.

  • MAKE MORE PLEASE!!

  • A backstage tour would also be fantastic!!

  • @joshuaTM0 they have one! its actually called Behind the Emerald Curtain lol You can buy tickets at the theatre or ticket master

  • We need these videos more often! Can you do one on the stage manager?

  • Woot third comment :D

  • Question: You have a normal drummer then in the orchestra pit, right?

  • @SuperZackMonster: There is another percussion area on the opposite side of the pit. The show travels with four core musicians (the percussion, guitars and I think a keyboard player) and the conductor. The percussionist in this video is one of the core. The other musicians are local musicians hired for that city's run. My friend was the French horn player for the Albuquerque show in January/February 2011. Wicked went through the local symphony union to get these musicians.
