@FreddyPeezy Foreman defeated Ron Lyle though. I was talking about a Knock out, a count out. While Lyle floored Foreman twice Foreman came back to win the fight.
My favorite part of this fight, is not only the fast jabs in the first video, But at 6:48 when Ali does the Side to Side rocking and Foremans like Wooooaaaah and looks like a big giant losing his balance hahaha
Lol. What Ali did is completly legal, he had rather lost rounds by staying back and letting foreman punch himself out. Then win by KO. (Which would have made it look better than a match won by decision)
@mskidi i KNOW he din't lose rounds but he came in that mind state like saying "Ima pretend that im losing and knock his ass out at the end" but i guess the judges said he still won those rounds.
@DRACOFIRE26 yeah i get that but ive never seen a fighter do it so much and hanging back on the ropes so much takes the weight out of thepunches and reach so just tires out foreman? everytime foreman hits on ali he grabs on like he finds the head shots hard to take..

Ali would be better off with you just saying nothing. Ali was quicker, more fit and tactically superior to Foreman. That is why he won the fight.
anyone who knows boxing well could easilly tell that wis the heat and humidy and formen falling prey to alis phycology, that he was totally wasted by the end of round 4, if he was drugged u stupid arsehole then he would in no way take all them combination hits from ali and still stand ,ali constantly peppered him wis combinations from round 1,formen was strong on frasier and norton, but his upright fighting against ali made his head a sitting duck, shamefull excuses from envious little lowlives
Quoting what a man says at Foreman's age and after the hits he took. I believe what he said and thought----I told my trainer "The Water Tasted Like It Had Medicine In It, I nearly Spit It Out"----------George Foreman.
@CoachCanada1 "After the fight I was bitter. I had all sorts of excuses. The ropes were loose. Referee counted too fast. Cut hurt my training. I was drugged. I should have just said the best man won, but I didn't know how to lose. Finally I realized I lost to probably the greatest of all time. I was drugged all right. Muhammad gave me a dose of that big right hand. He won fair and square." -- George Foreman
@CoachCanada1 Total bullshit, and even if so, tough shit. The drugged" Foreman landed the hardest punches of his career and still got knocked the fuck out by the greatest of all time. The "drugged" Foreman that night would have destroyed any heavyweight in history but Ali. His team must have been real fuckups to feed him such spectacular drugs.
George was considered by "ALL" to be the most impressive physical specimen of a boxer of all time. 24 years old.....Ali 32 on the verge of Parkinson's??? The heat and rope a dope lol!
@CoachCanada1 "The heat and rope a dope lol!" What exactly does this mean? You can't argue without evidence, kid. People have been trying to make excuses for Foreman for over three decades. You'll never change the result. He lost clean to Ali and lost again to another out-style fighter in '77, between which Lyle knocked him on his ass twice. The truth is right here on film and the dreamer is you. Give it up.
@Brianjonestown "The heat and rope a dope lol!" What exactly does this mean?
It is the reason given by people who can't handle the truth of what tired George out "drugs". Watch some other highlights of George and see his quickness and accurate punching POWER, and how he "pushed" people around.
Watch in this fight how "weak" Foreman is, listen to what the announcer is saying commenting on his tiredness, weakness, can't even push Ali away.
@CoachCanada1 I couldn't have put it better myself. Anyone who knows boxing could tell Foreman was not his normal self during this fight. This was not the same strong, fast and powerful boxer with the piston like jab who conquered Wepner, Chuvalo, Frazier and Norton-four men Muhammad Ali barely beat and lost to two of them lol although I am a big Ali fan as well, but lets be realistic here. I also think Ali's poor performances against Norton and Frazier contributed to Foreman's poor showing.
I've watched Foreman's fights for years. I always liked Foreman. This fight shows no evidence of him being usually slower then his fights with Frazier or Norton. Foreman did not train to fight 15 rounds against Ali. He expected to knock Ali out within 4 rounds. He was simply out classed by a fighter with better skills.
@Brianjonestown Foreman was not mentally right after the humiliation in Zaire and had started to lose interes in boxing by the time he fought Young lol. And George was also ring rusty when he was decked twice by Lyle whereas no one came close to putting Foreman down prior to this fight except for Ali obviously. The Foreman from 1969-1974 would have destroyed Jimmy Young within 4 rounds.
@dave10172 More excuses. Truth is that Foreman was at his peak when he lost to Ali. His words again: "I went out and hit Muhammad with the hardest shot to the body I ever delivered to any opponent. Anybody else in the world would have crumbled. He cringed; I could see it hurt. And then he had that look in his eyes like he was saying I'm not gonna let you hurt me. And to be honest, that's the main thing I remember today about the fight."
@Brianjonestown It was more a case of Foreman boxing a stupid fight than Ali boxing a good fight. If Foreman had used the jab and paced himself better he would have been the conqueror in this fight as well and would crusaded towards the 1980s as the reigning world champion. As there is no way an undefeated Foreman loses against Jimmy Young and goes into semi-retirement for 10 years. I also think Teofilo Stevenson would have beaten Ali if he turned pro and got a few fights under his belt.
@dave10172 I think I should clarify something I am a Ali fan he is my favorite fighter of all time. Him and Sugar Ray Lenard. So I am not trying to make excuses for Foreman. I have expressed what I saw and what I heard, and I was around when these fights were fought.
When you look at the other fights of George when he was young the guy in this fight does not look like that. In his old man fights he was ROCKED way more than what Ali did and did not go down. I firmly believe he was drugged.
Was Muhammad Ali's "rope-a-dope' strategy the only dope involved in the "Rumble in the Jungle?"
George Foreman isn't so sure.

@Ol0fsson Ali vs Tyson is hard to call. Tyson had 2 careers really; with Cus D'Amato and Kevin Rooney. That Tyson would have been tough for "anyone" even Ali to beat.
The second part of his career with poor trainers and loss of his direction and supreme training efforts and focus on fighting.....you know what happened then.
As far as Ali and Foreman I believe Foreman had been drugged. It was not the heat or Ali that made him that clumsy. Although Ali did hit him with some good shots. Foreman was never that graceful but to me its obvious he was drugged.
He was interviewed many times and mentioned that he told his corner the water tasted funny. As much as the fight disappointed him this is the real reason he quit boxing. Turned on by his team.
Watch the fight again........he was drugged......period.
The 5th round in the first Liston fight was like a modified version of the 5th round in this fight lol. That is weird isn't it? The only difference in the Liston fight was that Ali or Clay as he was then known never had his back against the ropes lol. He also came on strong in the third round against Liston as well just like he did in the third round against Foreman although I still think Foreman shaded that round as I think Liston shaded the third against Ali as well in their first fight lol.
U know ALi even said that the Rope a Dope wasnt thought up, he had to do it bc he couldnt dance 6, 7, 8 rounds. He couldnt do it anymore. Even though he won , this was the beginning of the end if you paid attention to the skills of ALi.
to say foreman was a one dimensional fighter would be the understatement of the millenium! his punches were long, slow-coming arm punches that ali could see coming half a mile away! i don't see how anyone gave foreman a snow flakes chance in hell in this fight??? it seems as though anyone with some skills and smarts could have done the same to foreman as ali did. sure foreman was strong but his approach was so neanderthalic in conception that he seems comical... cartoonish even.
Foreman looks drunk for most of this fight, even before he tried wailing on Ali, I think he may have been drugged as he thought. From the start he doesn't look like himself.
Foreman's disgusting style of sticking his arms out to throw punches surprisingly didn't get him into trouble with body shots. Ali, of course, didn't throw body shots, but a good body puncher would have really taken advantage of that. Then again, looking back, Foreman didn't really fight any body punchers, except for Frazier and that didn't last very long.
Ali had a big advantage by most reff's because they allowed him to hold down an opponents head with his hands. Why they continued to let Ali get away with this tactic throughout his career is beyond me. Artur McCante s the only reff that I can remember that would not let Al get away with this illegal tactic.
@topcat42 Yes, it's true. Ali did that to tire guys down as well as help defense. I remember a few refs saying something to him, but he never lost a point for it., which he probably should have.
Foreman took Foul Punches. How they were allowed to be Legal Punches without him being disqualified is pathetic. Boxing Voting and Officiating was phony and went against every rule of Legal Boxing from the late 1960s on. Just a marketing gimmick like Sports with HGH,Performance Enhancing Drugs, and Steriods.
@JamelleFunk770717 I'll give you Norton, but the others were definitely wins for Ali. And you act like the judgeing back then is any different than it is now. Boxing has always had shitty judging.
@JamelleFunk770717 not like I'm some boxing expert but there are ways in which boxing styles contrast. Foreman, a puncher, is better against in-fighters like Frazier, and stylistically worse against an out-fighter like Ali. Wiki has a great page for this, i suggest u check it out.
foreman the sloppest puncher in hwt history, ali still CHEATING grabing & holding pulling the head down. joe louis & tyson & maricano & wallcott would have ko both of these guys imo
@jimiguitar100 At the end of round four Ali came back to his corner confident and told the his coach that he has Foreman and can KO him any time he wants to. His coach said "Well then do it" and Ali responded "No, first I want to have fun with him".
So everyone who believes that Ali planned this 8-round-spectacal is wrong. All you need to watch are the first four rounds to realize that Ali was simply a bad match-up for George.
Which leaves one question: Why didn't he give him a rematch?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
folks it pains me to say this but foreman's trainer drugged him before this then put a big money bet against him, that's why Ali wouldn't fight him again, he was in on it.
@shivakrishnarama sure and the moon landing was a big fake, too. Right. If Foreman was drugged he threw a hell of a lot of hard lefts, rights, and uppercuts in the fight. That's what tired him out. Ali wouldn't fight him again because the first fight with Foreman was so decisive. It's too bad Ali didn't retire after this fight.
I agree completely with StarPalidanKenobi about the way Joe Frazier fought. He was a skilled man-hunter in the ring. All that bobbing and weaver and tricky arm movements made it very hard to predict when the Venomous Viper of a left hook would strike.
Ali is the only opponent to survive and shake off a full on, full force direct strike of that left hook twice in the same fight when Frazier was at his fighting peak --first fight.
George Foreman was just immune to Frazier's style and punches!
haha dude you are right. seems like foreman thought he would just "frazier" ali and press him. Meanwhile ali made the adjustment and simply punished foreman
yea, i love the way Frazier fought. He was a mauler with skill, always pushing foward but dipping and dodging at the same time. Joe just scares me with all the bobbing and hand movement. It made it hard to tell when the Evil Left was coming.
Ali said this was his greatest fight. I tend to think Ali's greatest fight was with Liston, the first time. Mike Tyson said his favorite Ali fight was with Cleveland Williams.
Ya don't usually see Ali just try and throw heavy leather like at the end of round 5. Either Foreman is arm wary, exhausted, eyes swelling so he can't see or just plain out matched.
Glad it went the 8 rounds, for our viewing pleasure.
what bothers me about this fight is that it doesn´ t look like foreman is trying to hit ali at all! he is trying but it looks like he just blows punches randomly in the air like he is blindfaulted ore something! and that´ s from the bell ring in round one till round eight!
Foreman was a tough hard hitting guy with the accomplishments of an all time great, but let me be frank: he was a phenomenally crappy technical Boxer, and he was facing one of the most skilled technical Boxers of all time.
Foreman had seen from the first few rounds that he couldn't land consistently on Ali and by this time he was starting to become desperate.
exactly! this is a prime example of a boxer vs a puncher. at the 3rd and beyond Foreman is simply swinging for the fences, but Ali shows patience by waiting for openings and is the much more accurate fighter.
everybody talks about how much ali used the rope-a-dope in this fight, but he really only started doing it in round 5. in all the other rounds, he was mobile and tied george up when he started waling on him
Agreed. He seems to come up with it on the spot in round 5 when he needs a little rest... It definitely isn't as huge a tactic throughout the fight as people claim.
I couldn't agree with you more. I only just realised I had not actually seen the whole fight just documentarys like "When we were kings" etc. I expected to watch this just saying ali 95% of the time on the ropes being hit but he was MUCH more active than I realised. Kinda ruins it for me now haha.
People seem to give Foreman way to much credit for his power. He looks so sloppy against a boxing master like Ali. Ali was in full command the whole fight.
Foreman is like, "I'll just use my face to stop Ali's fists, they can't hurt me." "Ooh..... that's stings, maybe I'll take a little rest here on the mat and figure out where I am."
UFC is pathetic. I really hate it. Boxing requires alot more skill to get knock outs... Whereas alot of UFC fights end in a knock out within the first few minutes. Zzz.
well i wouldnt say its pathetic because the UFC require more skills than boxing because they have to know how to box plus learn other martial arts but i love both sports though
Well that's not true as pure boxers have technically won fights against MMA's (Butterbean, for one..) and that wasn't my point at all. From an entertainment perspective UFC ranks amongst watching a black hole evaporate. Interesting, for about 2 seconds.
I'm not here to hate on boxing. I follow boxing too. I follow Kickboxing, too, because I am a combat sports fan.
In MMA, a 140lb man, when on his back, can beat an opponent who outweights him by 50lbs, by submitting him. And you don't think that is skill? To beat someone in a fight when you're on your BACK? Right...
As for the UFC not being entertaining...Fair enough. If you'd rather see two people dance around a ring and throw jabs all day, be my guest.
@HoneyIEducatedTheWeb -- I agree with you. I saw a man on his back, looking like he was going to lose, and suddenly he got the opponent in a "guillotine" hold. Wish I could recall the guy's name. Sort of a strange name: an American last name but something like a Russian first name. About a year ago. Submission is a good way to win. No one gets knocked out or hurt really badly.
UFC & MMA fighters are EXTREMELY skilled. Can't really compare it to boxing. They're 2 pretty different games.
boxing is very entertaining sport but it is barbaric and there has been thought of banning it, UFC is BARBARIC period and it should be banned. but that wont happen.
Though I do agree with your first sentence in response to KogarasumaruStorm. Boxers can beat MMA fighters in a fight. Though you have to give the advantage to the MMA fighter for obvious reasons.
I think the Toney v Couture fight should go some way in answering the question. They're both at similar points in their careers. However, we need to see a younger boxer in better shape, such as a David Haye, in the MMA scene before we can draw ultimate conclusions.
@HoneyIEducatedTheWeb fighters in mma ? the best is fedor he would break any boxer in mma rules .. but i agree its just a streetfight .. ali was sheer amazing .. but couture is fuckin 47 he isnt a good fighter no more .. brock is shit , mir is shit , carwin is shit , fedor and overeem are the best fighters ever .. ali and frazier are the best boxers
You're looking past guys like Mighty Mo (who's really only a boxer), Lavern Clark, Jeremy Williams, Butterbean, Ray Mercer, James Warring.... and probably more. All the respect in the world to mma. But gotta be fair with this, it's the fighter not so much the style
Regarding your "UFC is pathetic" comment. You have to realise they are different sports. (MMA, not UFC). It's like saying: Basketball is pathetic because it's so easy to score. You might want t

From the start he doesn't look like himself.
capablemachine 1 year ago
Foreman's disgusting style of sticking his arms out to throw punches surprisingly didn't get him into trouble with body shots. Ali, of course, didn't throw body shots, but a good body puncher would have really taken advantage of that. Then again, looking back, Foreman didn't really fight any body punchers, except for Frazier and that didn't last very long.
TA152H01 1 year ago
@TA152H01
Ali had a big advantage by most reff's because they allowed him to hold down an opponents head with his hands. Why they continued to let Ali get away with this tactic throughout his career is beyond me. Artur McCante s the only reff that I can remember that would not let Al get away with this illegal tactic.
topcat42 1 year ago
@topcat42 Yes, it's true. Ali did that to tire guys down as well as help defense. I remember a few refs saying something to him, but he never lost a point for it., which he probably should have.

Foreman took Foul Punches. How they were allowed to be Legal Punches without him being disqualified is pathetic. Boxing Voting and Officiating was phony and went against every rule of Legal Boxing from the late 1960s on. Just a marketing gimmick like Sports with HGH,Performance Enhancing Drugs, and Steriods.
JamelleFunk770717 1 year ago
Ali also should have lost his other fights against Norton, against Chuvalo, and Jimmy Young. Phony fraud fixed voting.
Foreman also got away with fighting illegally in his fight wins for throwing foul punches without being disqualified immediately.
JamelleFunk770717 1 year ago
@JamelleFunk770717 I'll give you Norton, but the others were definitely wins for Ali. And you act like the judgeing back then is any different than it is now. Boxing has always had shitty judging.

@JamelleFunk770717 not like I'm some boxing expert but there are ways in which boxing styles contrast. Foreman, a puncher, is better against in-fighters like Frazier, and stylistically worse against an out-fighter like Ali. Wiki has a great page for this, i suggest u check it out.

kingdarius1991 1 year ago
Tyson can KO Rocky for sure, both same type boxer but Tyson has more powerful punch and stronger, faster.
Both can give Ali trouble but no any power puncher can knock Ali down, Ali was so tough and he took those power punches all the time and still won.

3-0-2 Ali The way Ali came back near the end of the round was fantastic. His reflexes and counter punching shined right there

whats awesome about ali is that he was mostly built on skill and speed but when it came time to brawl he was down.
novawildcat89 1 year ago
last minute of the round 5 is the most thrilling minute in the history of hw boxing..
In that round Foreman is brutally beating Ali, but after 2 minutes Ali showed something incredibile.
jimiguitar100 2 years ago
Thats also my view, best minute of all times, but last minute in '77 Shavers-Fight also great, the last big minute for Ali.
Mainaschaffer 1 year ago
@jimiguitar100 At the end of round four Ali came back to his corner confident and told the his coach that he has Foreman and can KO him any time he wants to. His coach said "Well then do it" and Ali responded "No, first I want to have fun with him".
So everyone who believes that Ali planned this 8-round-spectacal is wrong. All you need to watch are the first four rounds to realize that Ali was simply a bad match-up for George.
Which leaves one question: Why didn't he give him a rematch?

This comment has received too many negative votes show
folks it pains me to say this but foreman's trainer drugged him before this then put a big money bet against him, that's why Ali wouldn't fight him again, he was in on it.
shivakrishnarama 2 years ago
@shivakrishnarama sure and the moon landing was a big fake, too. Right. If Foreman was drugged he threw a hell of a lot of hard lefts, rights, and uppercuts in the fight. That's what tired him out. Ali wouldn't fight him again because the first fight with Foreman was so decisive. It's too bad Ali didn't retire after this fight.
davidleealford 2 years ago
I agree completely with StarPalidanKenobi about the way Joe Frazier fought. He was a skilled man-hunter in the ring. All that bobbing and weaver and tricky arm movements made it very hard to predict when the Venomous Viper of a left hook would strike.
Ali is the only opponent to survive and shake off a full on, full force direct strike of that left hook twice in the same fight when Frazier was at his fighting peak --first fight.
George Foreman was just immune to Frazier's style and punches!
SOLOVIEV2000 2 years ago
its called a "block" George
try it sometime
StarPalidanKenobi 2 years ago
haha dude you are right. seems like foreman thought he would just "frazier" ali and press him. Meanwhile ali made the adjustment and simply punished foreman
novawildcat89 2 years ago
yea, i love the way Frazier fought. He was a mauler with skill, always pushing foward but dipping and dodging at the same time. Joe just scares me with all the bobbing and hand movement. It made it hard to tell when the Evil Left was coming.
StarPalidanKenobi 2 years ago
Im sure you can teach George a lesson about blocking

Foreman commanded in boxing circles.
Many of Alie's own fans not to mention his camp thought this would be judgment day for him.

Ya don't usually see Ali just try and throw heavy leather like at the end of round 5. Either Foreman is arm wary, exhausted, eyes swelling so he can't see or just plain out matched.

what bothers me about this fight is that it doesn´ t look like foreman is trying to hit ali at all! he is trying but it looks like he just blows punches randomly in the air like he is blindfaulted ore something! and that´ s from the bell ring in round one till round eight!
Hippiemetalhead123 2 years ago
@Hippiemetalhead123
It's all Foreman can do.
Foreman was a tough hard hitting guy with the accomplishments of an all time great, but let me be frank: he was a phenomenally crappy technical Boxer, and he was facing one of the most skilled technical Boxers of all time.
Foreman had seen from the first few rounds that he couldn't land consistently on Ali and by this time he was starting to become desperate.
periechontology 2 years ago
exactly! this is a prime example of a boxer vs a puncher. at the 3rd and beyond Foreman is simply swinging for the fences, but Ali shows patience by waiting for openings and is the much more accurate fighter.

everybody talks about how much ali used the rope-a-dope in this fight, but he really only started doing it in round 5. in all the other rounds, he was mobile and tied george up when he started waling on him
beatlesaddict23 2 years ago
Agreed. He seems to come up with it on the spot in round 5 when he needs a little rest... It definitely isn't as huge a tactic throughout the fight as people claim.
quasiphatpaul 2 years ago 4
I couldn't agree with you more. I only just realised I had not actually seen the whole fight just documentarys like "When we were kings" etc. I expected to watch this just saying ali 95% of the time on the ropes being hit but he was MUCH more active than I realised. Kinda ruins it for me now haha.

KogarasumaruStorm 1 year ago
@KogarasumaruStorm
Well that's not true as pure boxers have technically won fights against MMA's (Butterbean, for one..) and that wasn't my point at all. From an entertainment perspective UFC ranks amongst watching a black hole evaporate. Interesting, for about 2 seconds.
KingLies 1 year ago
@KingLies
HoneyIEducatedTheWeb 1 year ago
@HoneyIEducatedTheWeb -- I agree with you. I saw a man on his back, looking like he was going to lose, and suddenly he got the opponent in a "guillotine" hold. Wish I could recall the guy's name. Sort of a strange name: an American last name but something like a Russian first name. About a year ago. Submission is a good way to win. No one gets knocked out or hurt really badly.
UFC & MMA fighters are EXTREMELY skilled. Can't really compare it to boxing. They're 2 pretty different games.
57highland 1 year ago

boxing is very entertaining sport but it is barbaric and there has been thought of banning it, UFC is BARBARIC period and it should be banned. but that wont happen.

HoneyIEducatedTheWeb 1 year ago
@KingLies
HoneyIEducatedTheWeb 1 year ago
@HoneyIEducatedTheWeb fighters in mma ? the best is fedor he would break any boxer in mma rules .. but i agree its just a streetfight .. ali was sheer amazing .. but couture is fuckin 47 he isnt a good fighter no more .. brock is shit , mir is shit , carwin is shit , fedor and overeem are the best fighters ever .. ali and frazier are the best boxers
calbo555 1 year ago
@KogarasumaruStorm I don't know if I'd say well established.
You're looking past guys like Mighty Mo (who's really only a boxer), Lavern Clark, Jeremy Williams, Butterbean, Ray Mercer, James Warring.... and probably more. All the respect in the world to mma. But gotta be fair with this, it's the fighter not so much the style
jorgekluney 1 year ago
@KingLies
Regarding your "UFC is pathetic" comment. You have to realise they are different sports. (MMA, not UFC). It's like saying: Basketball is pathetic because it's so easy to score. You might want t
