Why does everyone want to be an entrepreneur nowadays. Its all about luck when trying to be a successful entrepreneur. And to the topic at hand I agree w/ you but ppl have there opinion and you can't change some ppl on how they feel towards a race no matter how hard you try but he should of kept is mouth shut or maybe he just wanted to attract some attention. Basically what am saying is I don't care about what that guy has to say he is insignificant and he will not stop me from success PERIOD
I think we have to do what we have to do as black people and better ourselves, while ignoring these haters. They will always exist. This person is not worth your energy to offended you.
You seem like a woman who is going somewhere and I praise you for that and hopefully you can inspire more black people to better themselves as well.
...black successful pp dont get visibility. We should go back to our community and brag about how we got to this school, and got this job, and this familly rather than define success as being an outlaw or having multiple partners...the models presented for the young generation are just Wrong, and dont represent what our community can become!
I strongly believe its a problem of lack visibility of successfull black people, not only in tech but any other field (except maybe in entertainement). beeing brought up abroad Ive seen CEO s, tech pp, doctors...who are black and thought that hard working pp will get the pay off, color was never even in my mind. But once i moved to the US I ve see this attitude ,even among black pp, that school and success is for the whites...which pisses me off o_o , mainly bc successfull black pp dont go get
@munawt Wow that's interesting. Where did you move from? What made blacks more visible in that area than when you moved here? Where do you see the lack stemming from?
@munawt you're on point. The most common black people we see in the public eye are sports figures, and those in entertainment. We have to do better amongst ourselves 1st and then to everyone else.
I reached out to you, black founders, and a 1/2 dozen other minority sites and groups and thought leaders about a related subject weeks ago when putting together a post to contribute. Nobody answered. But when a white male in the media speaks ... y'all blog hot fiya LOL
So YEA there's something to the diversity issue ... you're right :P I've also started to gather an interest to get a nat'nl arts and tech center built in the poorest county in NY. Do you know anyone who'd support?
@ChristopherFlo hi there. I saw your message in early October. It wasn't clear what you were asking or what you wanted. I rarely allow guest posts on my blog and my articles about race + tech have to do with my own experiences. Although I'd love to reply to every, single email, I don't have the time to do so.
You can interpret things as you like or explore how to clearly ask for what you want/need.
@adriarichards Lets gooo with explore :P ... Subject line: I wrote a post about tech and diversity, do you know where I can host it? ... Last lines of the email: Would you have a look at the draft? Maybe point me to a blogger who'd like the content? ... How would you rewrite that so it's more worthy of an answer. I did only get one response, after all.
And do ya know of anyone who'd support tech literacy in NY? I'm searching with some community groups ...
@ChristopherFlo I wish I had the time. One month ago I was preparing to speak at the conference in NYC. This summer, I had a lot more time. Wish I could be of help but won't be able to do so until late November
@adriarichards I saw that. the expo, right? I was kickin myself because I didn't have the cash to go. But no need to feel obliged to anything direct. Whenever I reach out to anyone, just like the blog posts, I'm mostly fishing for some good direction, anything else is more than I can ask for ya know?. Maybe it's a New York thing. Everyone has little time to do what they want. The only reason we wait for the train is because we can't walk on the tracks :P
Someone show develop something for black tech startups similar to kickstart where they can find funding from everyday people instead of just the usual sources (who will most likely deny them anyhow)
I don't think Arrington is a racist but I think he is an arrogant bully. I have been hearing about the "pattern matching" for years its become a saying amongst my tech friends to "Break The Pattern". The one thing I love about being in Chicago is that i am seeing growing resources for entrepreneurs and very little "Pattern Matching" more investors looking for a real return on investment.
