  • how often does a surfable swell happen here? i live 3 hours away how would i know when its breaking?

  • That water is 39 degrees...

  • thats fucking rad

  • lake superior near duluth has been warm this summer

  • All these videos of the Great Lakes are during cloudy conditions.. what gives? -TX

  • @Faztlan you only get real good waves before or after a storm

  • yo do you have a more specific adress to this location? looks fun

  • @punchingwildlife Lester River.

  • Im moving to minnesota from FLorida. and i was wondering how often the surf is up over there. ive been there and i know how frikkin cold that water is. haha just wanna know if theres someway to check the wave conditions before i drive 2 hrs to get there/

  • We swim in her and scuba dive in her all the time, Yooper Alfie in Grand Marais,MI

  • nice great nut shrinkage

  • Maybe the lake is a bit warmer on the Minnesota end? All I know is on the Eastern end you can barely set foot in the lake, even after a hot July/August. Your bones feel like they will crack from the cold. I have never seen anyone swimming and only a few waders down on this end even at the most touristy spots.

  • @Oddwun Not a bit.

The lake is cold on both ends. But no swimmers ever? It is rare here, but not uncommon.

  • Catch a wave and you're sitting on top of the world!!!!!!

is it quite cold? i'm looking for somewhere to go that has great waves. ideally not too cold or too rocky

  • All cold, and all rocks, all the rime.

  • @superiorsurf nice.

  • ur in a dirty spot at lake Superior

where i went the beach was so clean! no rocks in water or land

  • the surf is kicking up sand and makes the water like that, its usually clear.

  • you guys are lucky you get fresh water...try getting hit with a bunch of salt water in your mouth

  • But on the contrast, its also not nearly as buoyant as salt water.

  • I'd hit that!

    What's the music btw?

  • "Beauty Deluxe" by Visqueen!

  • yo .,., that was some nice surf .,.,

  • @askwhatifdotorg you would hit anything..

  • Are the waves in California better? Of COURSE they are. You don't need to be an "expert" to figure that out. However, it is a 3 hour drive from my place to the nearest surfable spot on Lake Ontario. It is 41 hour drive to Los Angeles.

Lake surfers are hardcore because they have to be. You have to surf mostly shitty windswell in freezing conditions. But I love it.

  • he got barreled! not, what are you talking about? do you know what a barrel is?

  • That is great, no sting rays, jelly fish, or Great White Sharks! 1:10 the guy got barreled! We need to come out there and make a video!

  • pretty sweet. but i dont see how that fucker is out there in just a bathing suit. Nice lefts they got going for them.

  • yess! i knew that bringing my board from Gold Coast, Australia to Thunder Bay, Ontario was not in vain. so stoked

  • looks dope

  • How, they are catching every wave?

  • Decent summer surf doesn't happen all to often, so you make the most of it!

  • ha, o dear

  • nothing but beach break

  • who sings that song?

  • that looks cool... and fun too! couple fast corners! lol

  • Does anyone know how far this is from Central Indiana? We moved here from California. Now that I have daughters, I would like to teach them how to surf so that they know a little about how I grew up. If anyone knows any closer surf spots on Lake Michian or any of the Great Lakes, I'd love to know about it. Thanks!!

  • Duluth is quite the haul from Indiana, and not all that inviting, weather wise. New Buffalo, MI would be a good summer bet; warm, consistent waves and a surf shop with rentals.

  • is this on the michigan side of lake superior or the ontario side or minnesota

  • It's actually within the Duluth (MN) city limits, just before the beginning point of Highway 61.

  • Wow! I'd be suprised to see the Great Lakes waves to be that high in the winter, but the summer?!! Radical!!!!

  • Where are they? are the in Minnesota?

  • Oh Fuck Yea-I love you Duluth I love you Superior-From The Desert Sands Of Las Vegas

  • what beach is this

  • Technically I would guess Brighton Beach? It's the north side of the mouth of the Lester River.

  • thanks, definitely just got back from VA while I was in the Navy and heard there were spots around here

  • Great video!! We only get up there 3-4 times a year and have only seen surfers out there once, and they were't this lucky!

  • i live on the beach in virginia beach, and after seein this it seems ive been spoiled..but im glad to see some fellow surfers ridin the waves their given..keep ridin those left lines, its my favorite direction to surf!

  • Summer waves on the Great Lakes are a major score...That is a sweet left... Nice to see some fresh water Stoke ! PEACE OUT !

  • right on. lester lefts! i need to get back to duluth and get me some.

  • Us MN dont need a big ocean to have fun with the water! I love Lake Superior that is where my summer is spent!

  • Ah but it suuure would be nice to surf some ocean right about now. Cheers from Ontario.

  • these waves are as good as it gets for us with no ocean! i have been to the ocean, and the waves are a lot bigger... but i love to go up to duluth and body surf in those waves! the only diff is that its freakin cold!!!

  • lol well i guess it nice these people enjoy the sport but seriously the conditions suck and thats probably a big day.

  • aint it more dangerous to surf at the lake? i mean with all the rocks and all (like it shows at the start of the video), one could bach his/her head in much easier, rite???

  • Its alot harder than it looks, the waves are really mushy on the lakes, and the floor is really uneven and theres no tides, so the conditions are usually pretty weak. but yeah its fun!

  • big ass waves for the lakes

  • i live right beside s lake lol

  • i do that with UMD,u guys gotta try it. i also to kitesurfing and snowkititng with UMD.its good stuff

  • i moved to duluth just 5 months ago and i've been hearing ppl talking about surfing on lake superior and now ive seen it! probably one of the rare places in the world where u can surf on a LAKE!

  • Those waves actually looked small compared to alot of days here. The gales of November are here. Lake Superior is well known for its storms as are all the great lakes.

Go surfing and wind surfing in the winter time. How many from CA. would do that? Yes the water is still cold in the summer time.

  • LIked your video. You will now need to get those guys surfing and wind surfing in the winter time. Lets see you dudes from CA> do that!! This is lake Superior. Dudes do real surfing in the winter time.

  • Cold? I don't think so. Have you ever been to the mid west in the summer? it is beastly hot. Still, good on those guys, Although the waves are better here in California, they get out there and do there stuff. Thats cool.

  • It has to still be cold. Pretty impressive waves for fresh water. At least you don't have to worry about SHARKS!!

  • Not bad at all for a lake!

  • wow i feel sorry for people who live in the Great Lakes region.. you call that waves? come to california..

  • It's a farking LAKE, dude.

  • skin it when you can...

  • Surfing without a wetsuit? The last time I was in Upper Michigan(Carter was president)I went running into the lake. I almost walked on the water getting out two seconds later.

  • Cool - surfing Gitchiegumme!

Check out are Lake Superior Projects in Marquette.

  • the lake aint cold in summer its hot dumbshit

  • 42 degrees in the summer, 39 degrees in the winter

  • No wetsuit? Shheesh, hardcore! That lake is COLD.

  • Great!

  • Longboard on Lake Michigan whenever I can. it's a 3-hour drive, but we'll do anything to surf.
