    どういたしまして

    あなたの曲、そして弾き方に

    癒されます

    今、気持ちが落ち込んでいて

    聴いていて不意に涙がこぼれました

  • やさしい気持ちになれますね

  • @arak718 Thank you.

  • Beautifully executed .. great tone and melody .. question about the TCE G Natural pedal .. did you try the Fishman Aura Spectrum before purchasing the TC ? I'm in the market for a quality acoustic pedal and was wondering what your thoughts are between the 2 pedals ... I've listened to this upload several times and absolutely love it .. Cheers !!!

  • @LifesonFan4Life Glad you enjoyed the clip. I didn't try the Spectrum. I have briefly used an Aura and a Mama Bear (another modeling tool) and found both of them simply annoying. The modeling feature may work well for strumming but it certainly didn't impress me as a fingerstyle player. The G Natural doesn't have modeling.

  • @franguidry .. wow .. thanks for the speed of light response Fran .. I have to say your guitar (of course it helps when you have a great instrument to begin with :) sounds amazing .. I've also subscribed to your channel ! .. thanks again .. p.s .. I recently bought a Taylor 514 CE and I'm looking at getting a quality pedal like yours .. the modeling thing doesn't really appeal to me either .. last question .. have you tried the LR Baggs Venue DI ?the price is a little more in my range :)

  • @LifesonFan4Life Nope, no experience with the Venue DI either. My arsenal includes a Baggs PADI, TC G Natch, and recently a Zoom A2. I usually set these devices to a very neutral setting, no EQ, no compression, no reverb, no chorus, just a bit of delay. I could probably get the same result from a simple stompbox echo pedal.

Remember, the sound you're hearing is after it has been through the PA, which is being run by a better than average sound engineer.

  • @franguidry ... Thanks again Fran .. a lot of people wouldn't reply in detail nor take the time to do so .. greatly appreciated :)

  • THanks Fran. I know that tuning so will give it a try. Cheers.

  • Hi Fran, can you tell me what slack key tuning this is in. Lovely version.

  • @hamsterheid Howdy, and thanks for the reminder that I failed to include that info. I just edited the video description to correct that omission.

The guitar is in open G (D G D G B D low to high), called taropatch tuning in Hawai`i.

    Thanks,

    Fran

  • Fran - you ae absolutely fantastic.I learnt this tune 50 years ago and you have just rejuvenated it for posterity. Please upload more tuneslike this Tchand . Malaysia.

  • You ROCK!!! Now THAT'S true talent...Beautiful :)

  • What a nice rendition.

  • Terrific playing, Fran.

I think I've only used alternate tunings to purposefully make things more difficult to play and to force myself into other directions. (like putting a block in front of me) I never thought to tune to something like DGDGBD, and have been inspired to give it a shot. ;) Thanks.

    Hashi

  • Simply outstanding! This will be the first slack guitar song I will learn. The richness of the melody is pure heaven.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • Sounds beautiful Fran! Your guitar sounds fantastic. [I finally got myself a youtube channel too! And some little ukulele recordings ;)] I'm finally playing music again, and getting into the friendliness about it all, haha. Aloha from Hawaii

    (I play w/ Makana tomorrow ;)

  • Very nice arrangement. I especially enjoyed the harmonics in the last verse and at the end. Thanks for posting. bb

  • I live in Hawai'i and this song embodies every thing I love about this place.

  • Thanks, I can't think of a nicer compliment.

  • Hy there Franguidry , first of all let me tell you you are an excellent guitar player . really nice version of this song . i was wondwering if you ever made any tabs for it ? i'd very much like to learn your version. keep up the good work

  • Thanks for stopping by. I don't have any tab for this arrangement, but I'll bet if you tune your guitar to taropatch open G DGDGBD you can figure out how to play the song from the video.

  • I saw you last night opening for Ledward Kaapana, and Michael in Mill Valley, and you were great! I really like the way you play this song, very nice

  • Thanks so much for coming to see Led and Mike. Weren't they stupendous?? And thanks for subscribing.

    Fran

  • Any upcoming performances, perhaps in the City so your "old" fans can see you????

  • I'll be opening for Led in August, and one of the gigs is at Noe Valley Ministry. You'll get the email real soon now.

  • Thanks for sharing this beautiful music!

  • I wish I could go wherever he is and just sit. I could listen to this all day long. In fact, I have been known to do just that more times than I can count.

What a great performance. That and he really loves what he is doing...

  • I love this Fran. I saw it before but almost forgot how nice it was.

  • Fran -- I love the arrangement and the sound of the guitar. Where was that recorded? Sure wish we could play together sometime.

    Sigh.

  • Bill, thanks so much for stopping by. Glad you enjoyed the arrangement. It was very much inspired, as I mentioned in the intro, by a player named Leonard Kwan. Uncle Leonard really left his mark on slack key.

I was opening for Ledward at a place called Don Quixote's, a Mexican restaurant/music venue in the tiny Santa Cruz Mountain town of Felton. The Martin has a K&K going through a TC G Natural then the DQ sound system.

  • Truly beautiful Fran! I saw John Kiawe last time I was on the big island and he sat with us on his break. Such a great guy and probably your friend. Anyway he was nice enough to send me a DVD of slack key lessons!! What a nice surprise. Now I have some homework.

  • Thanks so much, Gil. John is not one of the players I've met, but he sure seems to be a nice guy and he's a sweet player.

    Fran

  • really nice style of play, keep it up

  • ohh, so nice!

Dont I Love youtube..if it wasnt for this feature, I would have never heard this!

  • very nahenahe, fran! just found your videos linked to the AGF in the takamine EF75 thread. i have posted one of my original (non-traditional) ki ho'alu songs also. have you seen it?

    aloha braddah!

  • Hey, Randy, I've enjoyed your video in the past. Nice composition, and lovely big tone. Thanks for stopping by.

  • Sweet bass run, brah. Wish I coulda been there to see you in person, but no one ever told me how to get to Felton! Look forward to jamming soon.

    Tim Dang

  • Nice job!

  • Fran, you did a great job on this song and you were fun to watch too. You made it all look so easy.

    Bob (haole_boy)
