I you think about it gandalf makes a damn good defence of dark arts teacher. He lead armies against evil orcs with eomer (even defended a city from them). Drove away evil nazgul. Soloed a balrog (also evil). And can resist influence of evil artifacts (ie ring). Even fought a good wizard who went evil.
