what makes me wonder is why they didn't turn on the sound ? answer they can't because hdmi only works on video only. These bums never tell you how to configure the system because they all do the same thing , no sound, that sure is a shady way to sale a product . they got the product named wrong. instead of sewell it should swindledirect. Let me now If I get this ?!...I have to buy that converter to plug my netbook via VGA and mini jack audio to that box to convert my signal to " HDMI ", to get " upscaled " video resolution ?...most HDMI have a VGA port and mini jack audio inputs...the final resolution it´s analog cuasi-digital and a bunch of extra cables ?...Why don´t you just plug the VGA and mini jack audio plug at the beggining...better ask for the money and be straight...

@kingcoapa Some HDTV don't have VGA, like mine. So the only choice for a non-upgradeable laptop that only have VGA out is that converter box.

WOW! Now that's what I'm talking about, I've only ever used a VGA Cable with the Audio Cable and I found it worked on my 19" Technica HD Ready TV but not the 32" Grundig HD Ready TV for some reason. Maybe I should now think about one of these thanks for telling me!!!

I'm simply considering using a two-way 3.5mm audio cable since most newer Projection/DLP/LCD/LED televisions have a 3.5mm audio jack. Any suggestions and/or comments are much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi. Great video and setup. This seems like an unintelligent question, however, does VGA carry audio? According to this video, there is a 3.5mm stereo audio cable, as usual, with red and white cable on the other end of it (same type of audio cable used to connect mp3 players to sound systems and/or TVs). Basically, I think the setup seems somewhat incorrect with the audio aspect of it. How is sound being connected/transferred from the laptop to the HDMI converter box to the TV?

with some converters, you cant see the outern edges (half of the start button on LOWEST RES.) if the ers gets higher, you will see less of the edges

@selmirrr a vga to hdmi cable WILL NOT SHOW PICTURE you will need a converter or a hdmi videocard, because a computer uses bits for video and a tv uses hertz for video,

I use a regular VGA cable from my pc to my 32 inch Vizio TV and the highest resolution I get is 1366x768 its very clear but I'm looking for higher resolution. When I had Vista my resoulution was a lot higher than when I upgraded to Win7 . What cables do I need to get higher res? I'd at least like to get 1920x1080

Great video, thanks for posting it! To all of you who don't seem to get why this converter is useful, let me put it this way: VGA to HDMI cables are a scam and don't work. Also, not all TVs have VGA inputs on them, so if your system requires HDMI this converter will work excellently to convert the VGA signal into HDMI to work with your display.

VGA is analog, HDMI is digital - if you don't have a digital video port coming out of your computer this is not a downgrade, it is just the only way that you can connect it to a hdtv (maintaining 720p HD quality) - that's OK, you'll learn.

@Fade9150 I've never seen those cables work - VGA is analog, HDMI is digital - you need an active converter to make this connection. The only way a passive cable would work is if your computer happened to output a digital signal over the VGA port - again, I've never seen this but I don't know why else they would make this cable.

I was just gonna buy a vga to dvi connector and then a dvi to hdmi cable but even thou they are 2.00 on amazon i dont wanna pay 5.00 with shipping and it not work. I just bought a 32' phillips hdtv and mine doesnt have a vga hookup for my computers either. Im wishing i would have known and just bought a hdmi tv with a vga hookup. I dont wanna go through the hassle of taking the tv back though, as I did buy it for a huge monitor.
