[When I would play my song You used to sing along I always seem to forget How fragile are the very strong]Everybody is soft on the inside [I'm sorry I can't steal you I'm sorry I can't stay So I'll put band aids on your knees And watch you fly away]I'm sorry you can't come with me when I go [I'm sending you away tonight I'll put you on a bird's strong wing I'm saving you the best way I know how I hope again one day to hear you sing]I hope I can see you soon
A fitting story for this song....A pair of two siblings and the only things they have are eachother, and the elder sibling has to let go of the younger, and send them away for their own good, and feels pain everytime they see something that reminds them of their sibling. </3 I miss you, Jackson.
we used this song at our 3 year old daughter's memorial service. she had special needs and was terminally ill. she was very strong but very fragile. i wanted to keep her alive forever, I wanted to fix her and make her whole. but i had to do what was best for her and that as to "send her to heaven" by not hooking her up to machines and giving her all kinds of meds with bad side effects to prolong her life and suffering. i felt this song portrayed my feelings for <3
i think this could be in perspective of a mother in London during World War II sending her child off to a safer place where they're less likley to be bombed.
This song reminds me of my friend who died when we were twelve from cancer about 2 1/2 years ago. His death threw me into depression at such a young age. Yet I feel like he's watching over me everyday. I just wish he knew how much I cared about him.
Aww this song reminds me of Rue and Katniss in the Hunger Games for those of you who have read it, you may know what I mean. This should be Rue's llulaby. :)
I can't help but cry when I hear this. It describes how I feel right now for my boyfriend. He's a junior and I'm a senior, and I'm going away to college next year. :(
♥ this song. so sad and beautiful and touching. it sounds to me like a mom speaking to her child (bird). could it be the same "bird" as in her song Highway, where she says "how you've grown, my little bird?" I love ingrid!
@cait72590 thanks for the concern her song birds and morning lullabies reminds me of my dog mookie. as he always fellasleep on my arms till it numbs.. i miss him everyday i wish he was here to listen to this song :(
this song reminds me of the bird my dad brought home one day because it had a broken wing ,I called him white cloud cuz he was so soft and pale ,but when his wing got better i was the one that had to let him go .
You ask for tips on a video you could do. This reminds me of a mother in an abusive situation sending her kid away or putting him or her up for adoption to get them away from the abuser....just an idea...
@Keikyoku Another way of interpreting this song is death. Getting closure with death... Someone who had greater power, like flapdoodle said, a mother on his son/daughter... Or an older sister on her little sibling, and having that person dying, them saying that they will meet him/her again (as in heaven). I think this song will come alive to us all one day :(
@SouhaaMusic yes... it can absolutely be related to that... and not many people would understan how that's possible... this song makes me feel like its's ok to be in a situation like this (getting married even if i already know that the love of my life is somebody else) and that i'm not stupid... sometimes you just have to let go even if it kills you... I know it makes no sense at all that I'm telling you this, I just am very thankfull to read that somebody would be at least a bit sympathetical
@flapdoodle21 - Wanted to add another use of the song: to an adult child struggling with issues (addiction/mental health) and the mother recognizing she must show tough love. The song almost always brings me to tears...
I imagine the one who I will always love is listening to this song too (somewhere in this world). I know this is the type of singer He and I enjoyed. This song kinda reminds me of him. (I'm not sad)
Her voice is absolutely beautiful. It's just so smooth and peaceful. And I love the picture in the video! ^.^ Oh this song just makes me so darn happy.
The songs means that she has a friend that she can't help to get rid of all of their pains in life, but she's helping them somehow and that she is sending her off to a better world hopefully.
Thanks for uploading it. Its one of my faves from a cd i got a while back, long story behind that. this is the last song i needed to find the name for, thanks.
This song is so beautiful, I can't stop listening to it. It has a mesmerizing and calming quality to it that most of the music of today lacks. Thank you, Ingrid Michaelson, for bringing peace into my life, if only for 3 minutes and 19 seconds at a time.
@twilightfan4life2459 it is her this is from her first album wtf are you talking about!!!! this is on the album slow the rain and it was release back in 2005
it might have been from a really long time ago because i was listening to another one of her songs and then i listened to this song and it sounded nothing like her.
what is with everyone getting upset over my comments??
i think it's because you had said "i know that this is not ingrid michaelson singing" rather than "i don't think that is ingrid singing". you made it seem you had a righteous definite fact rather than a curious opinion which on youtube will often spark an argument, lol.
yes, this song is about having to let somebody go. but hoping that he/she is going to come back in the future.
so the message is quite similar to "the chain" and "maybe". but I think the lyrics of "a bird's song" are not as obvious as the lyrics of "the chain" and "maybe" (not in a bad way, of course!).
I love that song! thank you very much for uploading it. (:
@swimrgurl65 I'm really not sure.. I guess like any piece of art, it's all in how you interpret it.. I personally think it's about loving someone but not being able to take care of them, they have to let them go or something like that ^_^;; but i dunno really aha
@Keikyoku it kinda sounds like its a child or something thats getting older and she has to let them *fly* away? At my dance recital, these 3 little girls did a dance to this song and that was the meaning... Great video!
the chord she plays when she says "song" makes me cringe for some reason. its not the right scale for it. thats bad songwriting. she should know better
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
tone deaf? you obviously don't play guitar much or at all so ill give you a little lesson. a common chord progression is D A Bm G. A lot of famous songs like I'm Yours for example use this chord progression. now she uses D A B G which will make your song sound terrible if you play it. on ultimate guitar it says D A Bm G but its definitly not what she's playing but its there prolly cus the author thought it too obsered to write in a B major. im stunned ingrid could make a major mistake like this.
I think confining a chord progression to only chords in the key signature can be really constricting to the writer. Using a chord outside of the key signature makes it more interesting because it's unexpected. I commend songwriters who stray from the typical. =]
I would sing this for my son and daughter when they want to leave home to look for finding their own way in life. It is a love song and we must remember that we are the arc and they are the arrows.
This is such a beautiful, heartwarming song. I was instantly touched the moment I heard it...and since then, it has made me cry. I feel kind of pathetic, but it's the kind of song that really gets to you...Ingrid is such an amazing singer.
i think it's about a mother who knows she can't give her child the life she wants to give them, so she puts them up for adoption even though it kills her. and she's hoping one day she'll meet the child again and the child will have the life she could never give.

remembering the days before his parents became abusive towards him, smiling laughing and singing, i see her working up the courage to make the phone call that would send him away from the people that took his smile away, cps. i see a social worker carrying the boy from his house, when i hear im putting you on a bird's strong wing.
for the whole video i see the story of a babysitter who saves the young boy from abusive parents.

I'm sending you away tonight. I'll put you on a bird's strong wings. I'm saving you the best way I know how. I hope again one day to hear you sing. You know I'm not so far away. Get on a boat, get on a train. And if you ever think you're drowning, I'll try to slow the rain. In two years or so, Drop me a line, write me a letter. I hope to find you're doing better; Better than today, better every day.
Keikyoku - thank you so much for uploading this beautiful angelic song!! i love the picture you chose to reflect it. its perfect, an angelic child with wings with a bird in her hands.
this song really is so lovely. my favourite part is when she sings "i'm sending you...."

I love this song. It's so pretty!
I kind of want to sing this song now!
But I doubt my voice would do it any justice.

Keikyoku - thank you so much for uploading this beautiful angelic song!! i love the picture you chose to reflect it. its perfect, an angelic child with wings with a bird in her hands.
this song really is so lovely. my favourite part is when she sings "i'm sending you...."
