i have always pondered what joseph merrick really looked like behind the deformity. i doubt this is how joseph actually appeared, but it was a very good reconstruction nonetheless (and who knows, maybe he did look something like that). i would have loved to see how he looked as a child before his deformity became overwhelming. at least we could have gotten an idea of what he may have looked like as he got older. not that it matters really. he was beautiful where it truly matters.
Very well done. It makes me think of the line in the movie 'The Stand' when they've hypnotized Tom Cullen and he says "This is God's Tom" I think you've shown us Gods John Merrick.
thats very interesting, and you kept the eyes as a focus... i think he would have been very handsome.. probably now.. they could have reduced those tumours etc..
Beautiful! My daughter does an illustrated oratory called "Loving the Unlovely" using Joseph Merrick's story along with artist conceptions of what he might have looked like without the disease. My other daughters drew them by hand. I taught my daughters to mentally photoshop people. If you can visualize people with perfect bodies they are easy to love. Look up C.S. Lewis "no ordinary people" quote. Merrick had strong faith in God, and the resurrection. Merrick's story has encouraged so many!
@nalaskingdom Photoshop is just a medium, and it can't independently transform a photo any more than a pen can sign your name for you. Try this yourself and you'll catch on pretty quick.
But sadly.. I think even modern science would't have been able to make him look like that... Still.. John remains in our visions as kindhearted person who wanted to be accepted as human being.
Thank you, I am sure Merrick himself would have treasured a picture of himself as he would be without the devastation of the disease, as any of us would. He had a normal curiosity as we all have and actually history tells us he had a keen intellect and questing mind. This was fascinating.
Wonderful and heartbreaking, you must love Mr. Merrick as much as I do. I'm not ashamed to say that this made me weep. Thank you for accomplishing what must have ben a difficult job. I think it adds a whole new dimension to the tragedy.
Hey Joseph Merrick was a beautiful person no matter what happened. Thus says this is totally unnecessary. There is no such thing as normal or broken or fix. It's all part of who we are DON'T TRY TO CHANGE THAT!!!!
I wish, this would be really possible! Think, how many people you could make a better life! I mean not, that people like him are ugly, but they don´t live long, cause of their tumores or deformities >.<
@JudeMaris Thank You! People are so quick to jump the gun on just about anything. They are too dam lazy to do a little looking to find out the whole story.
@jerzyjuggalette the elephant man was far from beautiful he was badly deformed i think he would of loved to have seen this if he was alive anyone would in his case
He truly was a beautiful man. A male friend of mine asked me who he was (I have a picture of him on my Facebook page) and said that he was ugly. I came to Merricks defense and replied he's not ugly at all. He was a normal human being with a disease that was all. He was no worse than anyone in this world. Mind you this came from a 37 year old overweight man with no girlfriend and who still lives with his mother. People are so cruel.
@Baltimora1957 this make me cry really..when i saw ppl are not pleasure with them, with their finnancial status, with much more other things but not so immportant..but they dont think that they have luck to be normal human,to live in peace and have healthy life..everybody think that hes problems are the biggest on world noone knows that somewhere are ppl who deeply suffer..and wish to be a normal..
@TigersPrettyBunny not really its like buying a hadicapped person a pair of running shoes its more of a tease if anything but its truly beautiful work.
@TigersPrettyBunny I really dont think so. Joseph Merrick was VERY sensitive about his appearance, even as he was so brave about it. This video is moving, but somehow very sad too.
Thank you for doing this. I just finished watching The Elephant Man. Last time I saw it I was much younger and it still makes me weep for this poor man who suffered so much.
@DuncanzeDwarf Dunno. About the same time I saw him without all the tumors, I reckon. Looking forward to critiquing your version, though, so get crackin' on it.
@pianomama1635 You gave back what the disease took away from Joseph. But ultimately, it was his soul that made him beautiful - even despite his deformity.
That was the most beautiful and moving thing. I cried. What a handsome man he would have been - but he was still and always will be a beautiful person . And the music was perfect.
Mel, this is some of your most impressive work. It is hard to imagine an intelligent mind trapped in such a horrible way. I have The Elephant Man movie with Anthony Hopkins and John Hurt in my video collection. 5***** and more Mel + favorite. I also featured your Winter Lullaby on my safeharbor7 channel, hope you don't mind.
