  • How come there's a black dot on the middle of the sun?

  • @Red240104 The camera image sensor was overloaded by the light being too bright. The sun is actually a lot brighter up there, it's above the ozone layer.

  • @steamfire Well, it kinda looked like space it me. But I guess that's why the camera was able to fall back down to earth. Did you have to get approval to do this? FAA application or something?

  • @tailsjedi If the payload is within certain constraints, it doesn't need FAA an license.

  • @tailsjedi No you do not, if you meet the legal FAA requirements set forth in the FAR Part 101

  • In space, you can hear a balloon pop... :_(

  • @tailsjedi This is not in space, so no need to be sad for broken laws of physics. This is still completely within the Earth's atmosphere. The term that so many amateurs use, "near-space" is misleading in this respect.

The FAI defines the edge of space as 100km, for astronaut record purposes, and weather balloons are far less than half that high. This balloon burst at around 28km high.

  • you put how much helium in the balloon?

  • Very cool Bill.

  • This is really cool!

We're doing this (high altitude ballooon experiments) at our school too! :)

  • LOVE THE VIDEO!!! Looks like a real awesome new camera you're using there, I'll have to check it out.

  • Shiny!
