what about the memory card you had to buy for it? The only problem with sony gear for me, is they monopolize they're accesories only allowing you to use their proprietary cards etc, and you pay almost extra for a Sony Stick compared to the industry SD card or even compact flash.
Well you'won't get good DSLR with that money. Good models range from 1000€ to tens of thousands. Under 1000€ DSLR is just a hybrid with numerous objectives that'll epty your wallet in no time.
yeah :( but I was thinking I'll not get this HD vedio shooting capability, shooting 10 still frames/sec that's huge!!! and u can't find the tilting screen in the basic DSLR as well and this 9 megapixel is enough for me, and of course don't forget about this panorama stuff !! :D
actually one of Olympuses budget DSLRs has a tilt screen with 10MP CMOS censor but it doesn't have that gimmicky Panorama shot mode but by the looks of the demo this guy did, it didn't perform too well anyway, you can see a duplicate of the guy in the blue shirts arm etc. Good for starters I guess.
I really thought about it tooo much!! but finally I can't get this zoom with any affordable DSLR lens!!
this panorama mood as well and HD video !! yeah I can get the new Pentax Kx instead, but what about the zoom ??!!! what about this panorama mood ??!! so finally I decided that I;ll get this for 600AUD then after maybe 2 years I'll get a better DSLR with a quality HD at that time!!
drives you nuts when you buy a top of the line sony camera (that looks like that) at 5 megapixel back in 2005...and then years later you see something like this for the exact same price, same looking cam with panoramic mode and 9 mg pixel...:S
cool camera :) hard to justify buying another camera but wow nice camera..
i can feel your frustration....that is the caveat with tech devices...here today, even better tomorrow....we all know that in about 6 months sony will launch an improved version of this hx1 with 'more accurate shooting' and increased pixels...but you have to make a decision at one point....i usually have a hard time with this and sell my cameras to buy newer ones...it's as if I have a disease...
with enough bad luck you could get a horrendous result, even if you were to sweep a lot faster than in this case: for instance, a car could pass by just as you were sweeping, and consequently appear all over the panorama... - - -
Personally, I'm very curious on the low-light noise level in the layering/compounding mode that is to combine six shots into one.
its a shame with a cmos sensor and you still see all that pixelation in the photo

1280p video is a lie. it records at 1440x1080 and then upcodes to 1080p. i fucking hate being lied to.

tough choice between Panasonic LX3 and this Sony HX1
Johnpauljone 2 years ago
ill probably go with the sony rather than the sx1 for two main reasons the sony has 10 fps whilst the sx1 has 4 and the panoramic feature is sweet

did anyone see the blurry arm of the guy with blue shirt in the panoramic pic?
cant be that good
atyl1972 3 years ago
that guy was moving.
843 3 years ago
exactly, the image stabalization is not very good then is it?
atyl1972 2 years ago
if you heard it very clearly, that was the moment when the individual shots are made, before the camera stitched them all together.
j0vencio 3 years ago
No. You can hear it very clearly he says:
"And you can see the panorama I just shot, right here on the LCD.
This is a 110 degree panorama - you can even playback the shots themselves
to see how the individual shots were TAKEN AND STICHED TOGETHER, in just amoment."
That means the camera at that point is showing the result of its stiching.
And the result in this case is a man appearing in a couple of different shots - because he was moving. (It's not particulary blurry)

This highlights a dilemma in stiching:
with enough bad luck you could get a horrendous result, even if you were to sweep a lot faster than in this case: for instance, a car could pass by just as you were sweeping, and consequently appear all over the panorama... - - -
Personally, I'm very curious on the low-light noise level in the layering/compounding mode that is to combine six shots into one.
Anyone seen any samples someplace ?
TomtenT 3 years ago
The guy was moving in the same direction as the camera, so the camera captured him in several shots.
