1 thing that really sucks is that it seems like inless you live in the right area of the world it's hard to find tactical systems like silat and it's the tacticle one's that teach the most straight forward defenses. There is always aikido i like it and it's none violent phylosophy but it may be good to mix it with silat are kajukenbo are other arts to that effect but few measure to the proficiancy to arts like silat.

this is excellent in an urban setting.traditional silat would wreak havoc on the knees when doing lower body destructions on concrete or asphalt. traditional silat in indo/malay areas have softer terrain than lets say downtown brooklyn. doing harimau on glass ridden streets in midtown manhattan would be foolish at least from crouching and seated positions. i think his urban silat is effective on our north american streets. maybe traditional silat would be good in mudlick kentucky on dirt roads.

I'm sure the teacher is an able fighter but this footage , while impressive, looks a bit theatrical. And I don't mean the role playing but the movements themselves.

Well this is what they would call a Demonstration, during which they usually do tend to make things a bit theatrical, although I saw nothing I thought was ineffective displayed here. Only that the real thing would go much faster, those slaps would be punches or claws to the eyes and face, and it wouldn't have gone quite so smoothly, as when in a true self defense situation these things rarely do. Not ineffective in the least, however.
