  • whats an avatar ? lol just kidding ..... another thing they have in common is they both sucked ....lol

  • Avatar=FernGully=Pocahontas(Real Historical Person)

  • well you people keep saying that this is what avatar is.. but if you think about it nothing is original these days ._,

  • Hahahaa, when the bat says AM BLIND! XD loool, i remember that from my childhood days ; )

  • @TinkerbellPixie25

I saw that on HBO when i was 12 and thought it was good from Hanna Barbara. Say uh if you like animated movies on protecting the enviroment, you should watch Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind and Princess Mononoke which are both similar movies to Ferngully and Once Upon.

  • Ferngully is incredibly stupid...

    "Hey, save the trees!"

"Hey, this movie was animated ON PAPER, YOU IDIOTS!"

  • I found it! I had this one on VCR when I was little.. but as VCRs were gone, never found it, as I only knew the title in Russian, and forgot that soon too... nevermind, YAY!

  • Thumbs up if you think Disney should buy the rights to this movie and have Crysta and Tinkerbell meet.

  • wat movie was this movie previewed in

  • nice visuals, but the american voices are out of place in an australiannsetting, and the music is not as good as AVATAR..Looks to disney cutsey

  • @BushidoMH I agree, I'm happy I grew up in the 90's, so much good cartoons unlike today

  • @BushidoMH The Occult Part 23 - The World Of Disney. Watch that then come tell me if we should be showing our kids these films.

  • Avatar was a fucking duplicate of this holy fuck!

  • Comment removed

  • funny ive seen so much saving the forest movies and i still hate it lol

  • Natalie u bitch, if u don't watch this movie and love it, we're no longer friends...

  • This takes me back!! I still have the poster to it...

  • This movie was the main source of inspiration for James Cameron's Avatar, even though he'll never admit it!!

  • @asshole4good

Well he also borrowed from Ghibli/Hayao Miyazaki animated movies like Castle in The Sky (aka Laputa), Princess Mononoke, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind and My Neighbor Totoro. He even borrowed from European animated cult classics like Fantastic Planet and LightYears (aka Gandahar), if you haven't seen them watch them here on youtube and you'll see i'm right.

Sure it's also similar to Ferngully, only Avatar is more for adults.

  • I think some of the people at BP need to see this movie.

  • @Micah1268 avatar=ferngully + pocahontas in space

  • @Animehem

And judging by your name, does Avatar also remind you of Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Castle in The Sky, Totoro and Princess Mononoke as well? Cameron is a fan of animation, anime, european animation and Sci-fi/fantasy movies/novels as he borrowed from those as well including to show his love for Ghibli.

  • @Johnlindsey289 yes actually but i think theres similar stories with all shows. Its just that everything has pretty much been done like with avatar but not everything is the same

  • Avatar anyone?

This movie is way better than the trailer tries to show.

90´s where one of the greatest decades in animation.

  • I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! I remember during many trips to my BFFs house we would watch this movie. We would rewind the tape over and over again just to watch "The Batty Rap" or "Toxic Love". Aah, the childhood memories... =D

  • @sesshylover6

Oh now Toxic Love could make a great video for the movie The Toxic Avenger set to that cool song on a AMV of Toxic Avenger

  • i was begining to think this movie was just a figment of my imagination....when i went to see avatar i kept asking my friends if anyone remembered a cartoon that was real simular to it....noone remembered it. but i did. down to the name...........

  • for our children and our children's children....LOL HAHAHA :)

  • Avatar ripped this animation off big time.

  • @ShaneyElderberry

Don't forget Cameron also borrowed from Miyazaki's movies mainly Mononoke

  • WOW that is sort of like avatar the last airbender

  • i love the dudes voice : )

  • OMFG i been trying to find this movie since i last watched it when i was 10!!!!!

  • Ferngully is a lighter, child's film for all ages to appreciate and understand easily. Avatar is a more grown up, arguably more sophisticated look at a common theme between the two files, as well as a common lesson. With graphics to entice the senses.

    Ferngully - fairies.

    Avatar - blue kitties.

Both are win in their own ways.

  • I'm going to have to disagree with you about Avatar being a film for grown ups. I am 28 and I felt like I was watching a movie aimed at 7 year olds, like Ferngully. Avatar doesn't make you think at all...it's just preachy message stuff like save the trees, plants, etc...and paints every character in pure black and white. If Ferngully is for 5-8 year olds, Avatar is for 9-10 year olds.

  • @andres91881

do you think Avatar is as good as Cameron's own Aliens, True Lies and Terminator movies?

  • @BlueMoonEssynce

Don't forget Cameron also took from My Neighbor Totoro, Castle in The Sky (aka Laputa), Last of the Mohicans, Princess Mononoke, nausicaa, Fantastic Planet, Willow, Star Wars etc. did it also reminded you of those movies as well?

  • I miss the 90's.

  • @openEYEstudios omg me too!

  • @openEYEstudios

I grew up in the 80's and early 90's as a kid and mid-late 90's as a teenager, i miss both eras

  • Navii: The last rainforest..

  • Haha i'm happy to see i'm not the only one thinking Avatar is Ferngully!

  • @Cdelion

And since your european, you familar with Rene Laloux's animated movies? Cameron also borrowed from them as well.

  • This was a movie from when I was a little girl, my favorite movie, and my parents loved it too. We haven't seen it in years, and I want to get the DVD of it.

And yea it is like avatar, but I think avatar is too explosion-happy for my tastes. The cgi is brilliant, yea, but this is a great movie for children and parents alike. I'm going to be saving this to show to my children

  • I want too see this movie in cgi! Oh wait!

  • I wonder if there will ever be another hand animated movie.

  • Hah hah! Avatar is a copy of fern gully. Too funny. It's even got the blonde aussie meets rainforest girl love story... Am i the only person who thought Avatar was pretty crap?!

  • saying avatar copied this movie or pocahantas is like saying the japanese copied the chinese or americans copied the british it's stupid, no one gives a fuck about that opinon and for one thing it's story. If you're going to complain about this particular movie then go complain about every movie abotu robots being copy cats of other movies about robots, or movies abotu disasters being copy cats of other disaster movies Avatar was one of the best movies i've ever seen and fern gully was great too

  • @MasteroChieftan

Indeed both are excellent movies. But did Avatar also reminded you of Princess Mononoke as well?

  • all avatar is special effects over storyline, cause the plot of the movie just reminded me of this cartoon.

  • @fuckyt69

But do you think Avatar is for adults?

  • Hexxus' tree is soo creepy.

  • Avatar owned this movie whether it copied its plot or not...

  • everyone copies everyone else's ideas but who the fuck cares? avatar was a cross between pocahontas and ferngully but james cameron created an awesome film with awesome characters. might have a similar plot to some cartoons but the movie was still cream-your-pants good!

  • @gbang89

Cameron fucking wrote Avatar in 1993 before Pocahontas, BEFORE as he had the idea in 1988 as he wrote down the plot and ideas on a piece of paper that he put in his desk for 3 years then wrote his script in 1993. He announced in 1996 that he would make the movie as soon as Titanic is released next year but in 98 he decided he felt the technology was not ready as he put it in a drawer for a decade waiting for the technology to satisfy him

  • I saw Avatar trailer and this cartoon came to my mind! Same plot xD

  • Yeah, I saw avatar last night, its the same exact movie except there are more explosions

  • Comment removed

  • oh yea I've seen the movie and then this came to my mind!!

  • @hanxopx

Does it also remind you of 1981's adult animated classic Heavy Metal as well? Cameron also borrowed from that since that is one of his favorite animated movies

  • @K1kuch1

don't forget Cameron also borrowed from Princess Mononoke as he combined Ferngully and Princess Mononoke together including Castle in The Sky (aka Laputa).

  • yeah....avatar. the plot in avatar was basically comprehensible to a 5 year old. only thing avatar had going for it is its visuals.

  • I agree 100%..and at least this movie had a funy talking bat

  • Comment removed

  • @goyby

Do you think Avatar will ever be as good as Aliens and Terminator 1 & 2 in terms of Cameron movies or is Avatar his worst film?

  • Wow, a less preachy version of "Avatar!"

  • @tanukisuitriotbandba fu k uandfuck jioe rogan

  • @tanukisuitriotbandba

And did Avatar also reminded you of Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (aka Warriors of the Wind), Princess Mononoke, Castle in The Sky (aka Laputa), Heavy Metal (the 1981 animated movie), Last of the Mohicans, Star Wars Trilogy, Dune, Willow, Fantastic Planet and LightYears (aka Gandahar) or Starchaser Legend of Orin? Cameron borrowed from those as well.

And do you think Avatar is more for adults while Ferngully is for kids?

  • I think everybody saw this trailer at the start of the Home Alone VHS.

  • I searched for this having seen the avatar trailer

  • Aw, I loved this movie about 10 years ago... I was 7 or 8, haha

    I brings a lot memories...

  • I remember seeing this movie! I recently read the book by Diana Young- YES, IT WAS ORIGINALLY A BOOK! I was surprised, too. It's a very creative story and 20th Century Fox pulled it off splendidly- nice to know it stayed very true to the book!

  • fluhd wuz here

Avatar makes me wanna see this film again. :)

  • ha, avatar made ME watch this lol

  • me too

  • Avatar reminds me of this film all the time.

  • i remember this! i havent seen this since i was 4. now im 13 :O

  • I love this movie sooo much!

  • @nokkerl

Indeed, and since your from Japan does this movie remind you of Miyazaki's movies including Pom Poko? same Environmental message animated movie

  • I was 11 when this film came out. I always thought the background choirs were beautiful, and angelic. The 90s had some of the greatest movies I think.

  • @MrTheThinker1

I was 10 when this came out in theaters and enjoyed it, i see your an 80's and early 90's kid too and mid-late 90's teenager as well, so am i. The 80's and 90's had awesome movies indeed sir. Crysta was bonervision wasn't she?

  • The tree was so fucking creepy.

  • I second that!

  • BushidoMH, you Couldn't be more right

  • amen

  • I did I know how lucky I and my sisters were

  • Love it!

Ferngully came out the same year I was born so I've practically grown up with it. Anyone who knows where you can get the soundtrack to Ferngully?

  • too true! esspecially considering the stuff disney and other companies are producing!

  • it definitely is a film about protecting the environment. yes, ill give you that. BUT how is this for naive kids? lumbering compnaies have actully destroyed rainforest land thats fact. the film also teaches about respecting the enviromnent. now how is that naive?

  • Amazing film!!

  • You are NEVER TOO OLD, to enjoy a good movie. NOMATTER WHAT!!!

  • The message in this beautiful movie is almost a fact. Humans are basically greedy bastards who'd destroy an entire forest for lowsy money, while there are creatures in it, whether they're fictional or not.

  • I agree. The movie may be labelled for kids, but it's a great entertainment for adults as well, plus it bears a message that more people should pay attention to. It will always remain one of my favorites.

  • you are so right... I'm ashamed to admit it... but im 17 years old and still love that movie, i watch it sometimes... XD

  • Bah, you don't have to be ashamed for that! I'm 21 and I'm looking for the DVD. (I still have it but only on tape.) There are some cartoon movies that are just brilliant. ;)
