Is there any chance I could get a copy of the bird species seen here? I've been photographing lots of species here lately and I think I could add a few if I saw the list.
The privilege to qualify to live in the green belt managed by NCC. Help me help you we are all about the environment. What a joke! Do you have any idea what was in Kanata before you and your yuppie neighboirs moved in? You think your chicken coop houses have always been there? But noooooo: "Now that I've moved into my new McMansion which was built by (surprize!) cutting dowwn trees and draining swamps, no one else should be allowed to" . Why didn't you all get together and just buy the land yourself and bike and walk through it all you want... oh, and pay taxes on it, of course.
Email sent to the listed addresses. May I suggest adding these email addresses to the description section of the video? It would be easier for folks to cut and paste.
I have to say, I would gladly give up mountain biking if it meant not destroying this land. And mountain biking is my life, my bike is my prized possession
An Excellent Video!!!! Very informative!!! I was unaware of the amount of species that actually live here. It is amazing that we have this diverse habitat in our community. Lets help fight to save this land and stop all possible construction!!!!!!
Subdivisions as far as the eye can see! We need more suburban sprawl. AND MORE BUSSES. THEREFORE MORE ROADS. And let's not forget that bridge through kettle island. Trucks, trucks, trucks.
Oh, but you know that rail system everyone wants? Hah! They're not developpers, screw them. We'll just argue about it for another 20 years and eventually reach a concensus that we need to do another study because we took so damned long making paper planes and bitching. BUREAUCRACY!
I cant grasp wtf people are thinking, idont know if they realize that the trees and animals were living here long before us! what gives them the right to cut down something of life and beauty.. we need to do something about this !! save the forest
Ottawa probably has more scientists than any other city in the country, and they can't stop this? Pathetic. I guess they're all too busy. Disgustingly shamefull.
Who are the criminals responsible for this atrocity? Is there any chance of bringing them to the Hague and trying them for crimes against the ecosphere? I hope this is stopped in its tracks. Please people, bombard the politicos with letters and emails now!
I am a highschool student in Kanata, and I spent much of my childhood in these forests.
I remeber when I was little, there was a similar threat of draining the beaver pond, which is right next to this forest. Everyone in my elementary school signed a petition started by me and my friend, and we sent it to Peggy Feltmate.
Now that the threat is back, the repsonse is still amazing after we have grown up. This forest means so much, and DOES so much, they CANNOT cut it down.
It's a sad state that urban expansion/construction can wipe out fragile eco-systems and flora/fauna species in the name of modern development. This project must not go ahead. It will be devastating to the many inhabitants of this intricate eco-system.
I'm actually shocked Ottawa has continued down this project as far as they have, and much of my appreciation for the city has disappeared with it. I really hope they are able to stop what they are doing and correct it before they make a big mistake.
Tons of facts to support the argument that this is a unique area that politicians and urban dwellers should treat very carefully. Some novel ideas proposed about how to preserve the South March highlands that include Beaver Pond Forest, Trillium Woods and Monk Environmental Zone.
No one should effing destroy this space of green. It is important. Imagine if humans lived in that space and others wanted to destroy it. How would you feel?
there are also two VERY rare insect species (scorpionflies) that live here. They ONLY inhabit one small fern patch within the forest. I know this because I studied them for a full summer. While I was there every day in the summer, I also saw families of deer, porcupines, hundreds of insect species, frogs (which are in a fragile state right now due to a wide-spread parasitic fungus) and beautiful plants. Don't wipe out this area to make a profit. Have some morals.
I really hope that Ottawa can see the big mistake they're making in cutting down this beautiful forest... i walk my dogs in there, and have seen so many wildlife, like deer especially.... they already have enough housing and buildings, why do they need to destroy the south march highlands?
this video is soo true and i completley agree that they cant cut the forest down!!!!!!! anyways good job in the video some bueatiful pictures i really enjoyed it

I'm not stopping them from building roads, I'm telling them to build it around, not through the forest.
