  • I really liked the "No Reins" era of LRB. Farnham, Nelson, Goble, Housden, Prestwick, Beeb, Hirsch ... pretty tight band that could REALLY sing.

  • Outstanding ....enjoyed their tunes yesterday...enjoying their tunes today...and God willing I'll be cranking their tunage tomorrow .....

  • Great band. Beautiful music.

  • Shorrock, Goble & Birtles still the best of LRB. No fakes please, no compromise.

  • wow what an amazing song - and what a performance!!

  • Thumbs up if you think this might be the most effing awesome performance you have ever seen or heard.

  • Birtles,Goble, Shorrock, Nelson, Farnham is the dream combination that never happened. Unfortunately, they cant get along together just like their fans in here who up to now cant stop the bickerings

  • Wayne Nelson FTW!

  • I held back after seeing many things...These are good vocals...But Farnham is dying sing here..But it's completely in the name of fun!

  • This Shorrock/Farnham argument is moot here because this was ALWAYS Wayne Nelson's song. No matter who the lead singer was

  • that farnham is 1 annoying mo fo

  • Great song..!!!

  • sick harmonies

  • What's the deal with that horn section? I guess the Eventide Harmonizers (on the guitars) were too expensive to tour with.

  • its just a shame none of em can sing huh?

  • @grogandroppa yep, damn shame.

  • @ScamWOW

your going all right when Farnham's doing your back ups lol

i'm a metalhead but fair dinkum the quality & the skill level of the band is off the scale.amazing.

  • Whats the guys name who plays "lead guitar"?

  • @RogerDeanSmart Stephen Housden... he now owns LRB under a corporation called We Two Pty, Ltd.

  • i saw them in early 1980's in Manila !!!!

  • Wyj.e.b.isty utwór!!!

  • what a power brings this band, they are one of my favorite band

  • I'm Canadian and of course John Farnham is known here. As far as the controversy on the rest of the band...relax...and just enjoy the music.

  • Great song by a Great band.No doubt about it .

  • Back in the 80's a band called Hollywood used to gig at the Cartoon in Croydon. They sounded even better than this!!! What happened to them?

  • This is Wayne Nelson at his best - he is the original singer of this hit for LRB - he's an incredible bass player and singer - and a very good person as well.

  • One of the few bands I know that actually sound good live. Because they can actually sing.

  • Nelson made nightowls--there is no discusion..

  • aaahhhh!! the eighties, one of the best decades for music.....i miss those days..........

  • good

  • Great song - first time I've seen the live version - they really rock it out.

  • Somebody shut lonaticc up!! How did Nelson & Housden steal it? Shorrock took a buyout form the band. Nobody could sing Night Owls like Nelson. He can even play the bass. What does Shorrock do but sing???? Ask Farnham who the asses were in the band, it wasn't Nelson or Housden!!

  • What a great band! And Farnham was not alone with a great voice in that band. Wayne Nelson on bass has a great voice too! And Stephen Housdens two guitar solos in this song-superb!

  • Everybody has diffrent tastes. Farhnam imo was way too much of an "American Idol" average singer imo. Not bad, just didnt have his own sound. When Glenn sings you know it's him. Same with Birtles.

IMHO, Beeb Birtles is LRB. Without his writting LRB has been way subpar. That is why they didn't have no really big huge hits anymore since Birtles & Shorrock left the band. Nelson is a good musician/player but not sucessful song writter like B,S&G, and basically lives off B,S&G's writting. Not cool.

  • Comment removed

  • lonaticc, you might have a point if you were referring to the songs Shorrock originally sang on, but Nelson is the original singer on this song. Birtles can't touch this song. He can't even hit the high notes. And look in your favorites. Shorrock alongside Nelson while Nelson sings lead. If Shorrock has no problem with Nelson, why do you? Because you're an asshole and an idiot.

  • You really should just change your name to IHATEWAYNENELSON. It's obviously you have a really sick hatred toward him and he did something terrible to you.

  • @lonaticc I agree. Totally agree. Nelson and Houdsen have proved their worth as a pair of parasitic usurpers of the name Little River Band. They have milked it for everything they can. Godamn fakers

  • Farnham an American Idol average singer?!!!!! There's no comparison between Farnham and any idol singer. Farnham has an incredibly trained voice. His control of dynamics, his feeling, and just his voice is all original. Just listen to the live version of Cool Change. You can feel what he is singing. Farnham "moves" people when he sings, unlike any of that Idol crap imo.

  • Also, Farnham is known worldwide, especially more than the USA. Apparently the rest of the world has better taste in music than we do. I seriously doubt any idol singer could sell out overseas. His showmanship is great too. What a frontman! Such energy. Btw, they did have a hit with Farnham, remember "The Other Guy" :-)

  • It's kinda stupid to say Americans have no taste just because Farnham isn't well known here. That's just the way it works in the music biz. Every country has their own mega stars and look at the size difference between Australia and the U.S. Maybe 250 million people? Farnham just never had the catchy tunes needed to break the huge American market and maybe he didn't even want to. He should have flew the coop like Rick Springfield and a few more if they really wanted to conquer the U.S.

  • @lonaticc no doubt in my mind john farnham is an amazing singer one of the best on the other hand you´re an idiot

  • @yodasbum John Farnham is a legend in his own mind and on the other hand your the idiot.

  • @yodasbum

lovely to chat with you. what are you 4 years old very clever just repeating what I said.

Anyway lets stop it here cause what you know about good vocalists wouldn´t fill a matchbox

  • How can those guys be able to stand such awful sound? Too loud!

Shouting doesn't add power to the message, if there's any, right?

  • That's a pretty bizarre complaint. Like they say, if it's too loud, you're too old. Just look at all the youtube videos that the sound is so low you can't hear it.

  • Yessir. I know I'm geting old.

  • Am I the only Farnham fan? I love all the older LRB stuff with Glenn, but I thought their strongest efforts were "The Net" through "No Reins." "Monsoon" was good, but inconsistent. I just think Farnham is the superior vocalist... a one-in-a-million kind of voice. I don't have anything against Shorrock, but he just doesn't have Farnham's chops. I know... I stand ready to be lambasted, but it's just my opinion.

  • I agree, I saw these guys in Maryland in 1999-2000 and the sound is totally different

  • Absolutely adored LRB, with Glen & with John...these guys will always be Aussie-legends!

  • I' am tired of people whining about Shorrock, Goble & Birtles. They chose to walk away from the band. If the band was so important to them why did they take buyouts. Nelsons version of Take it is easy on me, & Happy Anniversary are better than Shorrocks. Get off of Nelsons ASS people, he is a good guy!

  • @superspoiler who was the 1st singer and how many changes happened ???

  • @superspoiler ..i'm sure Farnham is a good guy but this isn't his song, he just filled in when Shorrock left.

  • @superspoiler They didn't "walk away". They were being nice to Wayne & Steven Houdsen letting them continue touring, and then they got screwed under the rug by those NO TALENT assholes.

  • wayne nelson is an excellent singer, but shorrock still has a better tone in my opinion.

I wouldn't pay to see lrb unless the lineup included shorrock and goble.

my nickname has been "beeb" since 65' no relation to lrb.

  • It's funny you have so much hatred toward Nelson since Gobles and Birtles were in the band with him and THEY had no problem with him. It's also funny how you call Nelson a poser in a cover band and your favorites include CCR REVISITED with no John Fogerty! HAHAHAHAHA TO ALL THE HYPOCRITES OUT THERE IN YOUTUBE LAND!

  • Yes, Fogerty may be an ego maniac. I don't know him, so I can't really say and neither can you. It doesn't change the fact that he wrote just about all the CCR songs and they don't sound right without him singing them and he spent a lot of years not being able to sing his own songs. He was even in court for playing his own song that sounded like ANOTHER song that was his own. I say just blame the scum lawyers.

  • Comment removed

  • Shorrock was great on the original songs that he did the vocals on, but he's nowhere near the singer that Nelson is. And Shorrock can hardly even sing these days and Nelson is still going strong.

  • I see that you prefer fake bands since you have CCR revisited and a fake Guess Who with no Burton Cummings in your favorites. So let me guess, you have a problem with Cummings too? And learn to spell. It's "thieves", not "thiefs", you illiterate moron.

  • No problem with Burton Cummings, I just didn''t care for his reuion with them. He didn't sound the way he use 2. I like the current band because they sound more like the original band IMO. Nelson's LRB is fake, IMO, because it sounds nothing like LRB to me. Sounds like a real cover band. Revisited sounds more like CCR instead of Fogerty's band(s). IMO. And if spelling errors make you lash out & insult others, I suggest you get some anger therapy. Only true morons lash out over minor details.

  • From the first album on, front-liners Shorrock, Birtles, and Goble recorded separately. On the road they traveled separately. Only on-stage were they "together." Regular changes in the back line only contributed to the tensions. During one break between American tours, Goble started writing and producing an album for Australian pop legend John Farnham. He then agitated the band to replace Shorrock with Farnham. More lineup changes followed, including the departure of Beeb Birtles.

  • But we're not talking about IF. This is reality and Nelson came along a long time ago and got along with everyone while Shorrock, Birtles and Goble acted like children and are responsible for their bad business decisions, so quit whining. And since you bad mouth Housden so much, keep in mind that BSG has to hire a sub-par guitar player.

  • I miss the days when a dude could wear a pink muscle-shirt

  • que tal temón carajo..............eso es música..........SALUDOS DESDE LIMA PERÚ

  • Hey! John Farnham does his best Jeff Healy hair-imitation ;-)

  • This dude's voice live is absolutely bloody fantastic. Seriously, there are a zillion bands out there that would kill to have him as their lead man, let alone standing at 1st slip. Bloody cool

  • Amazing! What a voice on Wayne! And great harmonies!

  • I love that tight strutting guitar sound....excellent!

  • The singer (face only) looks like Glenn Jacobs, otherwise known as KANE, from the WWE. Look at him.

  • amazing

  • Ladies and Gentlemen the multi-talented Ron Howard!

  • I love the bald mullet

  • Yeah, Wayne is definately chewing gum. I used to chew and play. It DOES keep the throat wet. All the guys are excellent singers and fabulous harmonies. It's easy to see why Frey would call them out. These dudes rocked with the best.

  • Wayne Nelson who always sings this LRB tune sings with gum in his mouth. Fact! You can even notice a couple of chews. Obviously it keeps his throat moist.

  • Yeah, I agree.

This band nailed harmonies like nobody's business.

One other lesser known band was about this good.

    Ambrosia

But most people don't remember them (no major hits)

I loved "Holding On To Yesterday".

The LRB was better by far though.

  • Wow! Wayne Nelson has an amazing voice and he's also quite cute!

  • Great Great Band...Catch em whenever I can. I tried to see if the Ausies could get them to come to Camp Adder Iraq whilst we were all stationed there. I would have taken them over a Q36.

  • OMG I haven't heard this for so long. I love it. The Little River Band always was a great band. I love several of their songs. It sure does bring back a lot of memories for me!

  • They were all awesome singers in LRB. Wayne is a great singer as well. What a wonderful, powerful voice he's got here! One of my favourite bands off all time! LRB ROCKS~!!

  • Comment removed

  • It obviously is available since you're seeing it here. Duh.

  • Damn that's good - wish I was old enough when this was done to see these guys live...music isn't like this anymore!!

  • way to *ROCK * unbelievable vocals and musicians - you can tell the whole band is rocking their hearts out. this is what rock & roll is all about. watch and listen to this over and over and am blown away every time

  • Now there's a *REAL* Guitar Hero!

  • They were a kick ass band--great vocal harmonies, outstanding players, arrangements, and songs. I know they're still "out there" playing corp parties. I really enjoyed Housden's playing.

  • What a great performance from the begining to the last note. The two outstanding things are Nelson's voice and Housden's guitar solos, and the action everyone puts into this song.

    LRB ROCKS!!!!!!!!

  • How right, and a video clip to boot! Gotta love it.

  • Could`nt have said it better!!!! :)

  • I think this is the best harmonising rock band ever. Better than The Eagles, The Beatles, and just a tiny bit better than Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Yes, Nelson's voice... incredible; the guitar, absolutely world class.

These lyrics are no more than slick, but the performance is unbeatable.

  • I agree. Glenn Frey (The Eagles) was once quoted as saying that the LRB was the best harmony rock band he ever heard.

RE: I think this is the best harmonising rock band ever. Better than The Eagles, The Beatles, and just a tiny bit better than Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Yes, Nelson's voice... incredible; the guitar, absolutely world class.

  • I'm glad you and Glenn agree. I'm outspoken but I really appreciate others who give credit where it's due.

    Cheers vodude.

  • Saw them in the very first live satellite broadcast to the US from Australia, must have been around '82, I believe it was a New Year's Eve event. Great band!

  • One of my all time favorite songs and Wayne really nails it in this performance; what a voice. Love it! Thank you for posting.

  • This is INCREDIBLE! Smartkart is right about Wayne n Steve-n also they are THE BEST

  • Why have so many of the L.R.B. videos been removed? Wtf is going on here??

  • PURE POWER!

  • That kicked aassssss!!!!

  • Brilliant...

  • I just saw LRB on 4/26/08 in Phoenix, AZ. Wayne Nelson sang this song. He still has a great voice. He was also very interactive with the crowd, and seems like a really nice guy. Over all... a good concert. They opened with "Reminiscing" and closed the encore with "Lady".

  • I gotta add-Steve Housden-(purple and on amazing guitar) is one Bad Ass-He rocks that guitar like theres no tomorrow-greatest guitarist i can think of!

  • He was an AMAZING player. I saw LRB just weeks after this album came out (pre-Farnham; Shorrock was still with them), and all I could think was, "DAMN -- who IS that new lead player?"

  • I totally agree-Wayne Nelson keeps it simple-SIMPLY AMAZING! Farnham was good, but not wat a band needs, he oversang definately-Wayne Nelson is the man!

  • Wayne Nelson can belt em out! Instead of getting John Farnham for lead vocals they should have just stuck with Wayne....

  • I think of the singing: awesome. The guitar solos: awesome. But he's playing ¼ notes on the bass. A 2-year-old can do that. Then why do I just love focusing on that bass guitar?? Why this recording, of this song? It seems like everything in the song is just justification for me to sit here and listen to the bass - and I have no idea why.

  • Maybe that's the way the bass part of the tune was SUPPOSED to be played. Sounds just fine to me. I don't know of any 2 year olds who could play the bass in this song. Maybe you should get out more.

  • I picked a dumb way to say it, but that's what I meant...the bass notes are exactly what the song calls for, they're simple, and sound awesome. There's other songs out there where the bass player is playing more complex stuff but doesn't sound as good.

  • What would YOU play for a fitting bass line in this song?

    I'd LOVE to hear it....

  • I'm a bass player. Actually he's not playing 1/4 notes as he's playing syncopated 1/8 notes ie: di-duh di-duh di-duh di-duh etc. He also accentuates with short runs

  • The word is groove, which they're in here, heavily. Beautiful stuff.

  • Glad I wasn't there. I wouldn't be a Christian today if I was- I'd now be worshipping LRB. My LRB "Greatest Hits" CD is awesome. This isn't what I would call music. My stuff is 'music.' This "Night Owls" is ROCK & ROLL, in capitals. My 2¢.

  • HOLY - - "Brilliant live performance of a great song." NO KIDDING. WOW.

  • HOLY - - "Another brilliant live performance of a great song." NO KIDDING. WOW.

  • Australias best band bar none.

  • When music was MUSIC!

  • Another brilliant live performance of a great song. Love it.

  • this guy really belts this song out........i can really get into this tune.........

  • this is the best band (after eagles course).they come with America in the tour two years ago here Monterrey Mexico, this group is great, great experience see play all the greatest hits

  • I wonder if they got paid in pesos!
