how do I create springboard icons that have actual icons and not just a coloured block?

I have a question, I am trying to learn how to create my own theme. I am a complete noob at this but feel I can figure it out with a little guidance. Are there any tuts out there on how to create one from scratch? IF not then how do I hide the green icons when i link the spring action to a button? Thanks for anyone that can direct me in the right direction.

spring board is the screens were you can place icons and scroll between winterboard is an ipod app that can change the background of the springboard i think lol

I love your themes but I cant load themes. From the ones included in the program or ones off my SD card, even themes I've created on my own. Sweeterhome just sit there with a black screen, but notification bar still responds.

Have you heard of anyone else having this problem?
