  • McWhorer is correct:

The Rodney King accident was used as an excuse for blacks to go apeshit and challenge the White Christian male power structure, killing Whites, raping white women and so on.

The rap and gangbanger culture is taking its toll and we are far too much reverse racists, handing out privileges for young gang niggas, terrorizing white suburbanite areas and teaching white middle-class teenagers it is ok, to be a hip hopper.

  • "teaching white teens it is OK to be a hip hopper" thats whats happening?

  • @RationalEmotive not saying rioting is the right thing but if you point to a rioting in L.A because of a injustice of a guy being beating with excessive force(regardless of color) and the officers get off. I will point to the hundreds of millions of blacks who were stolen from Africa and killes chained and beaten and the milllions of natives who were slaughtered and killed and have Europeans take over their land so just asking what where those Europeans excuse???

  • He has very profound and observant mind and way of expression that is as eloquent, diplomatic, reasonable and inviting as Barack Obamas. But I don't agree with him for %100 The way that Katrina was handled by our government is apalling.

  • This guy is so right. People need to get off welfare and learn to fish for themselves. The government is not your mommy or your daddy.

  • I might not agree with a lot of his views, but I agree with the basic one, that we as minorities (and I am hispanic and the same applies to us too, as I grew up in the ghetto of New York in the 80's) have to get past this "victimologist" attitude. I went to college, was made fun of in school because I spoke "white", had a horrible time in school because of the taunting, yet made something of myself. There is no excuse for being uneducated, sorry.

  • Any black man that would quote Charles Murray ( a white supremist that thinks he is genetically intellectually superior to other races) is an uncle tom.

  • This guy is soooo out of touch with the black community. I have seen him on TV and all he does is stereotype his own race without doing any research. He writes books about a group of people he clearly doesn't know anything about, he needs to get in touch with black people if he is going to continue to pimp the race card for a living... he is a right wing race pimp and the conservative version of Al Sharpton.

  • Where's the second part?

  • john is a sell out in every sence of the word

  • poor John!!! He drank the cool-aid. and so did most of you!!

  • Ok, Im black and British if you heard me talk, you would probably think that I sounded 'posh' because of my education. To me the beauty of speech and communication is not trying to impress the speaker with fine words, its how you get that message across to the audience. I pride myself in my ability to be able to relate to a wide range of audiences.

  • John McWhorter is a scholar in the truest sense of the word. I've read his books "Losing the Race," "Authentically Black," and "Winning the Race." All of them are must-reads. He knows what he's talking about.

  • i agree i am reading losing the race and getting ready to read winning the race when i am finished

  • Yes, both are great books. I saw myself in him. All those kids who made fun of me stayed in the ghetto, got pregnant at 15, got on welfare, because THEY CHOOSE TO. All I kept hearing was the "white man this, the white man that", yet this was the early 80's and we had Pell Grants, scholarships for minorities, affirmative action, yet very few of my brothers in the ghetto chose to take advantage of it and still blame the white man. Go figure. I have NO PITY FOR THEM.

  • Theres still some truth in what he is saying.

  • I totally with McWorter. I invite all of the liberals to live the poor "ghetto lifestyle" for a month or so. I can tell you first-hand that a lot of hip-hop is based around certain aspects of poor urban areas because of the mentality. The logic is self-defeating and too dependent on the government.

  • Mcwhorter certainly is refreshing. I love the abundance of objective thought, and lack of victim-pandering.

    Too bad it cuts short!

  • I agree with McWhorter.

  • His angle: defeatism, victimology, separatism and antiintellectualism makes blacks their own worst enemies in the struggle for success?

  • The brotha has a degree of foolish arrogance about him. Professor McWhorter certainly appears to be ***detached*** from the problem.

  • I listented to the Charles Murray speech also ( v=lKo1HtcHSUA ) In my opinion he confronted the "Roots of Poverty" a lot better than John. See the irony?

  • McWorter's 'detachment' denotes not arrogance, but the objectivity and professionalism of the serious researcher and scholar. And his erudition and bearing are magnificent! If only the likes of McWorter would replace the dreadful legions of profanity slinging, Eubonic-shouting thug-raggers as speach and role models for Black America.

  • Professionalism is defined by one's skills AND the ability to use those skills. The arrogant tone of his speaking (far less than in his writing) causes the true sense of professionalism to be lost. I am also curious as to what "speach" might be. The microsoft spell check suggests "speech". Talk about "Eubonic-shouting thug raggers". (!!!!)

  • "Speach" (speech) was a typo on my part, as was "Raggers" (rappers). Mea Culpa. Anyway, McWorther exhibits a finesse in his use of English (he IS a linguist!) that's lacking in popular culture, were crudity and vulgarity are often the norm. Tragically, this poor use of language and the ignorance it celebrates is at its worst in Black and Latino Sub-Culture, where it hinders the educational efforts of many promising students, trapping millions in the crushing cycle of poverty and failure.

  • John McWhorter for president.

  • hell yeah
