What a shame that these cars don't run on their own power any more that instead they are push/pull with a GP-7. The only place I know that an RDC still runs on its own power is the Fayette Central RR in western PA. And this year is supposed to be its last year there. TRE in Texas has some RDC's but I'm not sure if they still run or if they've been displaced by new push/pull equipment.
I rode BC Rail's RDC's, all of which had Cummins 300 HP engines. I didn't know the ones on Vancouver Island still had their original Detroits in them. Interesting.
It was rebuilt by the PRSL just before they went under, and again by Transit before they sidelined it. The 6-110 engines are supposed to have roots-type blowers, however the south engine in the M-407 has a full out supercharger jury-rigged on to it. I can only guess the blower must have went up the creek, and the super was all that was available to get it running again. When running with the M-410 it would always slam us going south, or
My best guess is Aug 2005..(because the video is on another computer) The CMSL's web page has announced that service will start up again on June 30, 2009. There has always been problems with the swing bridge..they must have gotten it repaired.. (or plan to soon).. We'll see.
I was curious because I had worked at the CMSL from '00-'02. Yeah, the Cape May Moveable Bridge is fixed (again). This time, it was done right, too. What took it down this time was one of the tourist boats hitting it, while closed. I can't recall which one at the moment, other than when I was told, I remember saying "Oh, he always gave us trouble back when I was there, too".
First to comment: Beautiful!! I remember seeing them asa kid all the time in Ocean City and I rode one of the very last trips to Cape May in August of 1981. I tape-recorded the whole ride! Also after seeing all those Canadian RDC videos with Cummins diesels working it's great to hear what an RDC was SUPPOSED to sound like here. 5 STARS!!

Also, I'll tell you a secret about the M-407.

Or try to jump-ahead going north. Because of that, we were not allowed to use "notch 4" (full throttle) when running with the M-410 :)
