He was a master songwriter. A real idealist of the craft. The songs are the poetry of the soul and I think that you could see them published as such. Music then, had such depth. Every generation has some notable music, but this is definitely pure art. Somehow, it's hard to believe that we ever had such songwriters and we didn't embrace them.

These old Bread album covers. My mother had all of these. I remember every detail of these album covers... the weight and texture of the paper... how they smelled, even.

This is probably David's finest song, and I have a hard time selecting any one thing as the best. I have sung it for ages and even after 20 years I still can't quite keep my voice steady for the final line... "then you and I would simply fly away." It makes you completely love the man.
@Trecathlus It sure is just one of the best. I know what you mean about not being able to keep you voice steady while singing the ending. That's how it is with all of David Gates' song for me...I begin to cry everytime I sing one of his songs!!
