  • I think she is wonderful.. But am I the only one who couldn't help but giggle at her facial expressions? xD

  • Sucks when the sound and picture aren't in sync in this one though :(

  • Cecilia Bartoli's range is incredible!

  • Her pronunciation sounds like Madea (not the Greek, rather TYLER PERRY) gave her lessons! Hellerrrrrr! (hello) Halleluyerrrrrr.... smh... HORRIBLE!!!

  • She certainly has a wonderful and impressive voice but I think it's a bit too sharp and powerful for that piece of Mozart.

  • Yes! She is Italian, and so she should know what the hell does "Allegro NON TROPPO" mean! I really do admire her for her great musicality, but for Christ sake!...Everyone, who's "trusting her pronunciation" cause she's Italian or because he himself is Italian: I wish to inform you, that "alleluja" is NOT an Italian word, so that you are Italian doesn't mean you are an authority here. Secondly, her "a" is changing every 5 seconds and this alone I find to be against all the rules of singing.

  • beauty and positive energy combined

  • She is the best !

  • she looks so happy

  • I love bartoli but she sounds a bit like a demented chipmunk here.

  • blasphemy

  • the worlds greatest singer.......ever

  • An expression of pure joy! Like it or not, one must admit that she is the only one who can do this with such amazing precision and facility.

  • Do not like her singing of this classic. Mozart is turning in his grave

  • BUZZ AND NORA PEGMANSKI ASK FOR THIS. VLAURUS NOWOSIELCE EPIC SAMARA, RUSSIA

  • Oh, and please don't take my comments the wrong way. It was not my intention to put her down, or say she is wrong or right (because who am I to say a professional is wrong or right). Some of the things were just not appeasing to my ear, that's all. Maybe she sung it the best way for her voice. Either way, it was still an amazing performance. She seems like such a genuine person and deserves every bit of fame. If I could sing this song like her, even if its not my favorite, I would gladly accept!

  • Not my favorite rendition of this song. I've listened to many professional singers versions, and this one isn't my cup of tea. It sounds like she's litterally giggling in the coloratura parts. Also, the way she switches from the [a] sound to [u] and [o] (in places where it should only be pure [a]) drives me nuts. And watching her is like watching someone with ADHD. Yes it's an uplifting song but her movements are way too much. That being said, she is an amazing singer, obviously.

  • Is-it a parody ?

    Poor Mozart ... :-(

  • Could someone repost this? Puts all other performances in the shade, but not much fun since the video is completely out of sync with the sound. :(

  • @jd7x7jd That happens sometimes when capturing video and sound; the graphics and sound card may be processing at different speed, causing the bad syncing. With video editors, at least some of them, you can lock the video track then painstakingly shift the audio track back and forth, and testing it till it's reasonably in sync. Either that or get better video and sound cards :>)

  • she is Italian and her pronounce is PERFECT

  • Meh... I could do that... if I were female... and amazing at singing...

  • What a wonderful mezzo!

  • The audio is not in synch with the video,

  • @franklindavid The video is irrelevant, this is music not cinema

  • Alleluja!! Youre AMAZING!!!! :)

  • she is the greatest coloratura mezzo of ALL TIME

  • she's fucking awesome!!!!

  • Al-le-lu-YERR? No way!

  • i wish that You Tube would help those lost souls and disable the DISLIKE button .. NOBODY ELSE HAS IT ..

  • alleluyeah????? cant bear it

  • Superb!

  • "Alleluia" is the only word she sings, yet people are criticizing her pronunciation? This is liturgical or Ecclesiastical Latin, and the form of the Hebrew word "halleluyah" (English spelling) is how it was put into Greek for the New Testament and Church use 1,900 and some years ago.

  • All of you speaking of her poor mispronunciation, are you fluent in latin? Are you as good at singing as she is? I'm going to go out on a limb here and answer both of those questions for you, no. Words are pronounced differently all over the world, and each location thinks that they're the right ones, it's just the way it is...

  • I love this woman and she is awesome but what up with the messed up LATIN??? I mean, how come her pronunciation is so whack????? Pretty easy vowels and they are all way out there...???

  • What is she doing? Alleluyeah? Not Bartoli´s cup of tea this piece of music!

  • @NILSBULLER1996

she's not mozart's cup of tea

  • Such an unfortunate interpretation. And embarrasing to watch.

  • @bibelforschung

I wouldn't be that hard on her, she tries to do her best, but I think her voice and technique doesn't fit with the score.

  • i think she's sooooo good!!!!!

  • @neknaj333 DURA!!!!!!!!!!!! ESPANTOSA INTERPRETACIÓN!!!!!!!! NO SE ADAPTA A SU VOZ... ES UNA EXCELENTE CANTANTE PERO ESTO NO ES PARA ELLA.

  • dejá de hablar boludeces...blasfemo...

  • my god thats great singing

  • runs are amazing, but not sure about the "jah" vowel...

  • @camillachloe i think she pronounces badly 'jah'. sorry, but that's my point. anyway too melismatic for Mozart...

  • @MrClasicalone

Maybe it is her accent? Who knows how Alleluia was correctly pronounced by the ancient Jews in Jerusalem, or the ancient Roman or by Mozart himself?

  • @CT6Flags

I doubt we can pronounce Aleluia in so many ways as you consider. I think she pronounces it badly. Anyway it is not the proper voice for this motet. The tehnique is good but the voice is too... do not know how to call it. I prefer Arleen Auger's version a lot more.

  • Comment removed

  • @MrClasicalone I would argue that since Latin is a dead language no one can be absolutely positive that they know the "correct" way to pronounce Alleluia. There are at least as many ways to pronounce it as there are ways to spell it. You're entitled to your own opinion, but I disagree; Cecilia Bartoli is a world-renowned opera singer and she puts a great deal of preparation, thought and practice into her performances. I doubt you have such talent and subsequent credentials.

  • @MeAVE243 being a great opera singer does not mean knowledge of Latin or that her voice is proper for Mozart's motet.

  • @MeAVE243 Couldn't agree more! "Alleilujea" sounds totally bizarre to me too, but does anyone really know how it's "supposed" to be pronounced? Musically speaking, this is a seriously admirable performance--not my cup of tea (and way too many facial contortions), but come on guys, she's one of a kind, of the most distinctive musicians on the planet.

  • @GoldinDr She's Italian. I'll trust her.

  • @LordHettrick Well, the sounds she's making don't exist in Italian either.

  • Comment removed

  • @GoldinDr I'm italian, the pronounce is correct

  • Well, she doesn't look pretty singing it but her voice is angelic!

  • Her [a] is far to bright for Latin. This is not Italian, it should be darker.

  • @chavianog24 latin tonic or atonic As (both short and long) perfectly evolved into italian [a]. the difference is the vocalic "quantity" that is the length, but it was lost in modenr romance languages."darker" for romance laguages (and latin) does not make much sense.anyway italian IS the most conservative "vulgar latin", the closest to latin among the major romance laguages and the one that less changed the phonemes (an exeption is open/close Es and Os). she pronounced it perfectly :D

  • @fabrizietto1980 Thanks, I think I caught all of that lol!

  • Way too fast! Sounds forced to me.

  • Way too fast!

  • Love opera and hope to sing on stage one day.

I am only 10 years old.

    Pleas listen if you can.

    Katie.

  • singer time of singing

Cecylia Bartoli (soprano) 02:03 (record of alleluja)

    Michael Maniaci (male soprano) 02:11

    Lorin Vey (treble, 14) 02:11

    Gruberowa (soprano) 02:11

Clint van de Linde (16, treble/male soprano) 02:17

    Donald Collup (14 treble/ male soprano) 02:21

    Bonsal (treble/soprano) 02:37

  • @2010wieliczka number means time of singing- for example Bartoli two minutes and 3 seconds.

  • terrible! compare to the great sutherland for how it ought to be. this is tenth rate.

  • Interpretazione ORRENDA.

  • @bodiloto concordo pienamente

  • @bodiloto Sono daccordo.

  • she is MEZZO-SOPRANO and she sings very well, certanly is one of the best mezzo-soprano nowadays. BRAVO!!!

  • she is MEZZO-SOPRANO and she sings very well, certanly is one of the best mezzo-soprano nowadays. BRAVO!!!

  • Bad pronounciation! Can't excuse that to a soprano.

  • Uuuuuuuuuuu, it is Mozart, not Porpora! It should be exquisite, clasical. Nevertheless Bartoli is exceptional and I cant keep myself giving +

  • poor pronunciation ((( but the voice is ANGELIC! <3

  • perfect!

  • I don't find words to tell this.... She is wonderful

  • That is her "O" face

  • jkim?

  • In general, I love her voice. One thing that always gets me: her facial expressions. She cracks me up. I love her. : )

  • she looks... SO ENTHUSIASTIC... o_o

  • POR DEUS! Não existe palavra alguma pra definir!

  • I love Cecilia beyond words, but something about her timbre just isn't right for this song. I personally think Diana Damrau's version is best. The way Cecilia attacks the notes just takes all the elegance out of it. She sings very capably and beautifully, but her voice is not a delicate enough instrument, if that makes any sense, to handle this song. That's just my humble opinion. On the other hand she does add some liveliness to this piece that is lost in other interpretations.

  • PLEASE Gabba02 re-record in sync. It's one of the greatest things on youtube, but not when pic and sound are not together. C'mon, it would only take you an hour or two...... :)

  • I'm shocked she didn't forget the words.

  • @Stephiefulable she forgot- listen to the 1:27 - aaaa..... aaaaa... aa. aa.. aa.. to 1:45 :)

  • Her face at 2:17 is the best :)

  • ASQUEROSO!!!!

  • The vowels are wrong. This is overclocked.

  • Such joy she takes in singing with her fellow musicians! And such pure joy she brings to this world.

  • @simski1945

one cannot exprss it better than you.

  • The singer appears to be out of sync probably due to PAL to NTSC television signal convertion. This video was probably produced in Europe where PAL is used instead of American NTSC tv signals.

Cecilia is a great singer regardless of television technicalities.

  • She is amazing!! Absolutely my favourite singer.

  • Not only out of sync... It is at a higher speed than natural. Just look at the movements of the musicians... Strange video. And funny ...

  • i cant wait to go see her

  • celestial Cecllia

  • Yep, it's out of sync, but... Cecelia is always a delight to watch anyway.

  • Cecilia has divine smiles

  • Cecilia the queen!!!!

  • she makes this sound so EASY!

i know that this is NOT easy....

  • The video is not synced with the sound. However, great voice!

  • Molto imbarrazzante ! Povero Mozart.... grida come un agnellino.....

A sheep who is doing meeeeeee....sorry

  • What happened?

  • alleluyeah :)

  • @TSellsch: That's EXACTLY what it sounds like. I love her voice and how she handles the coloratura, but I'm not liking that vowel. It should be an open "A" vowel, like jaw, law, etc. Right?

  • theres a part in this that sounds like the german anthem...which one copied which?

  • @HeartGoldMVP i think it is hard to say; the german anthem comes out of a haydn composition, ... i also found a motive in little night music (third movement i think) you can find in a haydn's piano sonata. my music teacher told me this was an prove of awe to the composer he copied the music from and that it used to be very usual...

  • @zralokvemigraci well since haydn is before mozart, mozart 'borrowed' a line from Gott erhalte, but i dont know the popularity of the song back then

  • does this seem A LITTLE out of sync?

  • @jackzabbaththeband Oh, thanks for clarifying that....I thought I was DRUNK

  • This no

  • I normally like her voice but this time her pronunciation is all off and she's performing like a mannequin. Yuk

  • I was so stunned by its majestic qualities yesterday that I couldn't comment!

  • BRAVISIMO.-

  • So whenever my mind gets turbulent, whether depressed or misandric or misanthropic or self-hating or self-pitying or good intentions thwarted or hopes dashed or you name it, I either listen to some beautiful Buddhist mantras or watch Cecilia Bartoli sing. Having WATCHed her SING, now I'm a happy man :) How many souls does Miss Bartoli save, purify, and enlighten a year?

  • nieziemski glos...... wunderschöne Stimme

  • the vowels are kinda weird, but then again, cecilia's coloratura gives me goose bumps

  • Nope. Too contrived, sorry. Sounds like she's singing this while riding in a car speeding down a bumpy road. Kathleen Battle FTW!

  • @SchrodingerHatedCats the wise will do her just :)

  • Nope. Too contrived, sorry. Kathleen Battle FTW!

  • Shes not letting her voice be free... She's controlling her voice too much. It sounds fake and I'm not a fan of how she's performing this at all.

  • the sound and the video aren't synced

    anyways good performance

  • Just because you can sing it this fast doesn't mean you should.

  • CECILIA COME TO Los Angeles PLEASE !!!!!!!

  • Bad synchronization of sound and vision and the vibrato of La Bartoli is awful!

  • Cecilia perfecta!!!

  • Incredible voice. And love her passion!

  • This was one horrible day for her! Her voice is always magnificent, but why in the world did she use that grotesque NYC "a" vowel throughout - that broad, nasal "can't" sound that no voice teacher would ever tolerate. Her two "a" sounds are not "Italian," but something an Italian would write something like "eij." Everything about her voice is magnificent except for this bizarre pronunciation. Maybe she felt she had to brass-overproject her voice by vowel modulation. Still, I love her.

  • Beautiful singing. But she seems really tense. She is twitching like crazy.

  • bella sta tarantella!!!

  • i really love the beautufull voice of Cecilia Bartolli, but i think that this "motete" is not apropiate for her voice, i think that this is for a soprenos singers like joan sutherland or Diana Damrau, don t make me wrong, I really love Batoli's voice but is like ear to Mario del Monaco singing Nemorello (una furtiva lagrima), just my opinion, anyway I really love Cecilia Batolli's voice.

  • There is only ONE Bartoli, never has been another and never will be again. Her coloratura is thrilling to hear and her passion for singing is inspiring to watch. Brava!

  • Imbarazzante.

  • I don't think she is capbable of hitting bad notes...she is incredible.

  • Wow..few superlatives can fully describe this performace!!

I just cannot imagine why someone who does not appreciate real music (like this) would waste their time and then click the dislike button.

  • Wow..few superlatives can fully describe this performace!!

  • neverovtno, kako je dobro? klassa No1

  • She can feel the music in her soul!

    oh, god!

    She's incredible!

  • If you want to hear Cecilia at her very best, find a version of "Una voce poco fa" from the Barber of Seville by Rossini (all I've heard are amazing). It shows off her Mezzo full range and incredible gymnastic singing to its best. Listen for the transition around 3-1/2 minutes to the end. Scary good.

  • Very beautfiul.

And did the audio match the video? I'm fairly certain it doesn't but there were times that it seemed to match. If it is matching then I am rather perplexed...

  • Very nice thank you!

  • 140 Persons who Dislikes this are Bieber's Fans.

  • she looks sorta weird the way she's moving.. but man, i wish i coudl get up on stage and enjoy doing something that much :P

  • Pretty sure that my favorite part of this entire video is the fact that people who are "studying classical voice" are criticizing someone who has achieved fame in classical voice. Why can't people just be happy for someone who enjoys what they do? Nitpicking comes across as jealousy when it's in the wrong place, just a heads up.

  • Magnifica como siempre eres el hit cecilia !!!

  • the joy and the happy of the soul...

    all in her "Alleluja"

    love her!

  • Dimmi chi sei...

    Tell me who are you...

    A rare…pure…original...

    Elegance...

    Or...

    Just a dream...

    So peaceful…so graceful...

    A priceless treasure to enjoy...

  • Bellissima Cecilia, che meraviglie sai fare!

  • I like her voice, but she makes the weirdest faces. When I listen to her I have to look away from the screen or scroll down, or else I start laughing.

  • @Justin110488

    Same here :))

    lol

    she's weird

    no offence

  • @MsStixieLott Hahahaha, very. I found out that she's kinda a joke around the college here in the music department. Everyone says they only watch her vids when they need a good laugh.

  • @Justin110488

does she have some kind of problems or what's wrong with her? o.O

  • i love this!!!!!!!!

  • the Best.........mi Bartoli !!!!

  • phew! god bless my friend whos gonna sing tis aria 4 her final...wish i got bartoli's passion...

  • any chance we could have a re-post in synch? :-)
