I felt the tone of the game switched from AC 1 to AC 2. Altair was dark, but Ezio seemed too lighthearted.

Ezio is still a young man when he is thrust in the world of Assassins and Templars.

Altaïr was already a Master Assassin and thus fully versed in the inner workings of the Order (even though he disobeyed, but that's another story)

I think it would be normal for anyone to be more kindhearted if they haven't been raised from birth to be an Assassin (read the codex pages, Altaïr speaks of his childhood briefly in it)

Ezio is much more similar to Desmond in that regard than Altaïr was.

Actually, in Assasssin's Creed 2, the first weapon you get is a sword, then you loose it and you get the secret blade.

The Templars seek to dominate the minds of men to seek Peace in all Things.

As Al Mualim mentionned in the first AC, he shares the same goal as the Templars, but it is the means by which they attain their ends which bothered him...at least thats what he told Altaïr to make him believe...

Once again, your wrong. I just feel like I have to state this. AC had awesome storytelling, and I respect you for liking that. But L4D is way more than run and gun. "Should we go in that house in search of medipacks, we are already messed up, can't make a mistake." And having to squeeze together and not split up adds to the feel. Just saying, L4D is an awesome Co-op experience, and AC2 will have an awesome combat system/story.
