I strongly doubt this would be a good movie.....since in my experience Dutch movies suck(I'm dutch myself), It's always just a meh, its not good and not bad but I cant watch the whole thing.

If German people continue to persecute outsiders for speaking a different language and having different customs then I see no reason to say the holocuast can be forgiven. I wrote three novels, two of them now published, in an attempt to rid myself of recurring nightmares I had about WWII. No, I'm not old enough to have been 'in' WWII, but I was apparently old enough to be traumatized by perhaps news reels shown in movie theaters when my family went to see films. No one country in WWII is without its very dark history and no one country had all 'good guys' in its army, none had all 'bad guys'. Most soldiers were fighting in a war that they did not make or want.

Germany had every right to spark a war, and funny enough, if the allied countries made a better treaty (treaty of versailles); a treaty that wasn't targeted to starve Germany dry, then there probably wouldn't have been a war or even the desperation to vote in Hitler. It wasn't the German's peoples fault, they didn't know how crazy hitler really was. Neither did allied leaders.

There are a lot of stories about people helping downed airmen and in most cases the Nazis failed because of their own arrogance. They refused to believe "simple peasants" could out-smart them. It's a common failure of governments *cough*Vietnam*cough*.

This epic series was first broadcast in 1973, includes accounts from service men and women, and it is still the benchmark for war 'stories', full stop.

The masses may have done what you mentioned but they cannot be held directly accountable for the atrocities of the Holocaust and the war, only the Nazis can. What would you have them do? Go against them? That would result in many more deaths and nothing would have changed.

@stevesg92 geographically, Flanders (Benelux) is a relatively small area, but also with exceptionally "flat" (parts even below sea level) & open terrain. Much harder for partisans to operate in as opposed to hills, mountains, & extensive forest or even bocage (like in Normandy). Nowhere to hide really. They did the right thing, especially if you weigh the minimal amount of damage they could have inflicted on the Germans, compared to how many civilians would have died. So, you're correct.

I wrote three novels, two of them now published, in an attempt to rid myself of recurring nightmares I had about WWII. No, I'm not old enough to have been 'in' WWII, but I was apparently old enough to be traumatized by perhaps news reels shown in movie theaters when my family went to see films. No one country in WWII is without its very dark history and no one country had all 'good guys' in its army, none had all 'bad guys'. Most soldiers were fighting in a war that they did not make or want.
