A PA Announcer is supposed to be three things, clear, concise and correct, and Mason is barely any of those three. I'm sick of the NBA announcers feeling the need to be a part of the entertainment, their job is to inform, not entertain. If you want to hear a real PA Announcer, Bob Sheppard from Yankee Stadium

when your paying hundreds or some people even thousands of dollars a ticket...i want to be entertained. besides that people go to sporting events to have fun and at the palace it starts with mason. the intro at the palace before pistons games is one of the best, thats where it all starts. we dont like "boring" here in detroit, i dont know how it is in other places. our sports teams are a release from everyday life, so we want entertainment from start to finish....

Why then are tons of PA announcers around the league trying to ad more flare into their games? Denver's announcer even took the B-B-Billups thing and his opening "get on your feet". I know it's not a unique thing to say, but he says it just like Mason.

Also, you should be entertained by your team, but to have a PA announcer like Mason is just a thrill as a fan. He is hands down one of, if not the best announcer in all sports. And other announcers have already tried following suit.

that's the thing though, a guy like mason devalues the entertainment of the Pistons. To need a guy like Mason says "The Pistons aren't entertaining enough, so we need some maniac screaming every chance he can so the people can be entertained." If the Pistons' management thought that the team was entertaining, they wouldn't have to hire Mason, obviously they think the team on its own is boring.

I never accused the Pistons of being boring, the Pistons' management did. Fact is, even without Mason going to a Pistons game would be entertaining. So to add Mason detracts from the entertainment value of the Pistons since he's a distraction from the game itself. His job, or the job of any PA announcer is not to entertain, but to inform.
