I have to do a 3 page report on this movie for my American Government class, and I dont know what the fuck was going on in this movie. Previously I did an assignment on Mr Jefferson Goes To Washington, and that was easy. This however, is hard as shit because this movie was hard to understand, some peoples accents made it hard to understand, and this movie really wasnt that entertaining. Im starting to think I should do reports on old movies instead of new ones

This guy had no idea that the missals he once provided, to a group that America actually assembled, would be used shoot our choppers down. This is not this guys fault what so ever. If it wasn't for him, there might be a USSR still, and possibly they would be reached out to Africa. This guy stopped them in there tracks and helped the Soviets fall.

He gave the stinger missile tech away to other countries and trained future terrorists like Bin Laden. Wonderful guy.

Spent billions of tax payers money and gave away a huge technological advantage that we had.

Not even a worthless politician was per usual, but more near treasonous.

@invincibleironman3 In all honesty, he actually helped stop heroin trafficking in Afghanistan. The Taliban was very good at stopping it. It's when the US invaded that it picked up again. But the whole Mujahadeen and 9/11 stuff, Charlie Wilson is responsible for.

i haven't seen this movie .. bu ti can clearly see that as usual those narrow minded americans must have tried to show Pakistani army as an old style backward rag tag army of british era. and even those places where he is meeting Zia-ul-haq looks an old style Taj-Mahal or something.. mentioning that Islamabad is one of the most newest and modern cities in the world hence it can have that old architecture and those Pak military men were wearing 100 years old style uniform .. damn u Hollywood !!

You should see the movie. It doesn't portray them like that at all. The uniforms the Pakistani's wear are traditional dress uniforms that are still worn today in the presidential palace by the honor guard.

On the contrary, when Charlie Wilson meets with Zia and his advisors they're wearing modern beige officer's uniforms and are highly educated men who know much more about the Afghan war than Wilson does.

Hollywood did justice by all parties with this film 5/5 from me!

Charlie Wilson grew up in Texas. He knew about the Alamo as most Texans do, when he found out about the afghans fighting the very powerful Russians that had invaded this country, and were doing so with old, worn out rifles, decided to take up the fight against the russians, so when he saw how the Russians were brutally killing the Afghans, he took up the war aganst the Russians, which we should have been fighting. Thats when he got money to provide weapons for the Afghans. GREAT MOVIE, loved it

russians were slaughtering less afghans (that's what they are called properly) than americans do today.

Well, not everyone uses wikipedia to do reviews.

The movie itself gives the reasons for the US intervention, being strictly political (Russians were getting too close to the oil sources), not to really help the Afghans. That's how Charlie Wilson had to play it to get from $5 million to $1 billion.
