Re. "He who would steal the flame must die." It's a brilliant double entendre. It can be interpret as either "If you try to take the flame, you'll burn to death." or "To gain the power of the flame, you must die willingly." BOTH interpretations are correct.

And just as a refresher, the Shadow Man isn't and never was evil. He opposed you before because he thought *you* were trying to kill *him*. Once you correct this misunderstanding, he's glad to be your friend and ally.

It was on the left side of the screen and there was only abyss between the prince and the eagle.. I never got to get past that part and eventually I quit.. it was, like, fifteen years ago.. There was a glitch with the flame part in the mac version, if you just jump over and stand right next to the flame for a bit, the door to the next level will open.. totally screwed up the whole wall significance.. :)

How were you supposed to know how to turn into the shadow (turning around repeatedly) ? Was it written in the manual or something? I ask because I played through the game recently, and I don't recall it ever being mentioned or hinted at (not just how to turn into a shadow, but even that you *could* turn into a shadow in the first place). I went all the way to the final boss, but never figured out how to defeat him myself. (Only by looking at some walkthroughs did I find out)

At 0:25 you can kill the guard jumping up and dropping the unstable tiles on his head! :) You have to jump twice immediatly, and then the third time just when you see his 5 lives on the lower-right side of the screen.

Something strange at 1:29. When I get that potion the little dwarf opens the door to the next level, which is exactly in the left of this screen...and here it isn´t. Maybe I have a different version? Weird...

I've owned the PC version since it's release, and played through the Mac version as well. The same on both of those. Maybe you're playing the SNES version? They changed a lot with that one, for the worse.

let me tell you that i´ve been watching all 10 parts and it is the same as mine, only that difference...it seemed strange to me that in that particularly hard level, with only 25 min left, I could find the way out so easily...How do I know if it is SNES (and what is SNES). At the begining it says Broderbund Software and then comes the introduction and the game. In any case it doesnt matter. I love this game and i´ll replay it following your videos to get all the potions....Thank you!

@blitzkriegdragon013 The wall carving at 5:32 is not a death threat. It's a prophecy. "He who would steal the flame MUST die." Supposedly after dying you become a shadow (an invisible one), but the flame revives you. What's curious is that if you turn into a shadow (by spinning) and try to grab the flame, it burns you out and you lose the game. So, you really MUST die to get it. Personally, this shadow thing was one of the best details in the game.

Hey guys I found out what tehe sword lying on the floor is, whatever you do don't try to draw your sword or lift it up, it will rise up and burst into flames trying to attack you, you can't hit it and I guess you can't block it.

Oh funny... I never did it that way, I just killed the guards, jumped at the platafform with the flame, came back, kept fighting and running, and then the door was open... I swear is not a joke, tough to do it I had to jump without letting fall the plattaform at 6:21.

It's the puzzle. It's the only way to get the flame is to die in front of it. On the wall a few screens earlier says "He who would steal the flame must die", as a hint for what to do.

I know in the DOS version you die if you get hit in the back with no sword drawn... does that apply to the front too?

Yes it does. If you don't have your sword drawn you can die with one hit, regardless of how much health you have left.

Help!!!When I get to the last guard infront of the flame, why he cannot kill me like he kill your? I mean I stand still, but when he attack me, my prince automatically get his sword out. And when I try to let he kill me, I have to return to the checkpoint...

When the guard kills you and it says "Press any key to continue", don't press anything. The game will take care of the rest. ;)

Yes, that's supposed to happen. If you beat the guard, unless you somehow lure another guard on the screen, you can't get the flame to finish the game.

I don't remember it happening. You just need to collect a certain number of potions to be able to use your shadow. You still have him from the first one.

I've got the PC version of this game and the "dying flame trick" doesn't work. I've waited 2 hours for the Soul getting up from the Prince dead body and nothing happends :/ any solution?

Not that I know of. It should happen automatically if you let the guard kill you in front of the flame and just wait instead of continuing.

I don't know of any other way. Sorry. :|

yes, you must die and wait for like 5 seconds, the prince's shadow rises from his body, touches the flame and revives, then you procceed to the final level

A bad design of this level is that players can still move to the next level even if they failed to steal the flame and get caught at the next level without any cue of what went wrong nor the chance to move back and fix the problem!

Yes, somehow I (and my schoolmates) did able to move to the next level without getting the flame. I cannot remember exactly what happened (that was 20 yrs ago). But I recall we need to push the guard down the cliff somewhere instead of killing him. Everyone get frustrated when at the final level we cannot proceed and learned that we missed something that cannot be redone.

I remember there was a glitch on the PC version that allowed you to finish levels, particularly this one) a lot faster. If you stick to a wall's left side: (you) (wall), turn back and draw and hide your sword you will traspass the wall xD. In this lvl if you go to the wall below the flame sword and do this trick you'll fall over the door switch for lvl 4 and just need to follow the path back to the beggining. I loved this game, still do and play it. Amazing work on your walkthrough 5/5

My shadow once screwed up the game. I died at the altar as usual but that clumsy shadow botched the jump and fell to the pit. The game crashed after that.

Same here! at the time I know what was written on the wall and I willed the guy and I went really close to the flame and then the door opened but i guess this screwed me cause I got caught at the next level and never finished the game. I was so close. Now I really can't play this game. I just don't have the nerves for all this jumpings and opening doors!

5/5 i always died at the flame :) this comp hung jus b4 the flame part reloaded and waited for my slow connection speed jus to see how u become the shadow, yeah these days some games jus don't cut it like this one . I used to wait till everyone was asleep to sneak downstairs and play cos my dad didn want me to be addicted hahaha.. imagine the temple and catacomb scenes at midnight downstairs alone to an 80's twelve year old

5:44 start great sword scene. Man, how did you feel when you did those attack/block sequences? I had always experienced waves of adrenaline when fighting with more birdmans...

Yup. The message on the wall kinda jumped out to me back in the day. Since there's barely any words in the game besides the cutscene.

Now turning to the shadow, that was a pure accident. I got frustrated and kept pushing left and right for something to do. :P

Hah. I thought it was just your generic warning to create an intimidating feeling. Of course I was like 6 years old at the time... and had to cheat to get past even the fifth level. (I didn't know how to grab onto edges when jumping...)

One thing I found really hard in this section was the eagle-head in between the two slasher traps. And that jump just before the part with the tapestry. (I usually tried to kill that guard so he'd land on the plate.)

Yup, it has both versions. It has the best version of POP1 as well (clearer graphics, proper speed, clear sound). You unlock POP2 in the XBox by breaking down the wall at 33% (where you unlock POP1 on the PS2 and GC) and you get POP1 for beating the game.

Just for the classic games themselves, the XBox version is worth the price for sure. That SOT is also an awesome game is a nice bonus. :)

You have to find the secret passage in the sands of time itself to get PoP 2. You have to beat the whole game to unlock PoP 1.
