Wow! What a film! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time! Just waiting to find out who presented the movie! And then WHOOOOOOAAAAAAA, there it was! In big colourful (not remotely irritating) letters! What a treat! Oh, and I guess the battle scene was OK too.
this was an EPIC moovie.the italians stood proud and helped the rebels on the island to start a war against Germany.Everything in the moovie was fantastic and the war effects, too.Greetings to kefalonia my fatherland island!!!!Greece never dies!!!
Ever hear of the Roman Empire? The maritime powers of Florence, Genoa and Venice? The expulsion of French invaders from Italian soil three times by the Italians, the expulsion of the Spaniards twice, the German hordes twice during medieval times? Napoleon? (He WAS Italian). The defeat of the Austrians twice (Italian unification in 1861, and during World War I: Italy was responsible for the Austrian exit), Italo-Ottoman War of 1911? (Italy crushed the Turks).
A big part of Italy in the medival was part of the Holy Roman Empire.
Never mind, bro! I study history, its my opinion, no matter how you present your version. that doesnt mean i do not love Italians. Napoleon, was Italian? Cmon, you put it just how you need it. Thats ridiculous.
Well, I teach history, and ethnography is one of my areas of focus, and the fact remains that Corsicans are for all intents and purposes Italian. Trust me, this is not revisionist in the manner that Afrocentrists claim Cleopatra was black. I do not understand your mentioning of the Holy Roman Empire, other than the fact that much of modern Germany was also part of the Empire. This really is not a question of liking Italians, rather it is to accurately cite their history.
Dude, im gettin tired of this. french. Justifying in front of some smart ass. Am i allone with my opinion? I saw a lot of comments who basically saaid what i said.
Back to history: What are corsians? Well, french claim them to be french.
Napoleon fought for France as an officer IN Italians against Italians...
You mentioned German hordes.... what i was trying to asy is: THey too were Germans. And the recent war history of italy in not worth mentioning, is it?
Honestly, its nothing personal. i like argueing about certain things, but this is pointless. Fighting on youtube is so poor for everybody who is involved. Best regards and good luck, mate!
Yes, well, not only do the Germans owe them, but there is no record of the Germans complaining about receiving American aid after World War II. Maybe the Greeks did overspend, but at least they did not rape and pillage over half of Europe, and still expect the Americans to dish out the dollars to THEM after the war.
@ligreekguy Germans pillaged over more than half of Europe but we knew that we needed them. If Western Germany had gone Commie, Europe would have been done! The Marshall Plan was hardly charity.Besides, the Germans wouldn't even have been in Greece if it hadn't been for the stupid Italians.
No argument on the communist part, but remember, Truman sent military aid to Greece and Turkey to ward off their communist threats, intervened in the Italian elections of 1948 to prevent a possible communist victory, and sent thousands of troops to die in South Korea despite that country having far less strategic importance than Germany. So the German case is not unique. As for the occupation of Greece, I have met people who have fond memories of the Italians, but not the Germans!
@telamon2011 I didn't say that the German case was unique. I just said that the Marshall Plan was not charity. We helped the Germans and others because we needed their help in warding off the Communists. The Germans seem to have traditionally taken a very dim view towards people who fight sans uniform. That was the case during WW1. It was certainly the case with the Nazis. I never said that the Germans-particularly the Nazis- were sweet people who sowed the seeds of love wherever they went.
Not true, the Italians could simply have taken the easier route and embraced the Germans as soon as they came into these parts of Greece, and they would have been on top once again. Instead, they chose the moral and more difficult route by aiding their true brothers and sisters, the Greeks, when they clearly did not have to. Italians have been deadly and fierce conquerors when their hearts were in a war, but this was not one of them. I am Greek, and I love Italians.
You need to be more specific than that. Historians have even written that it was tactically counterproductive for the Italian troops to aid the Greeks as the Germans mounted an offensive, and that moral reasoning was the only factor involved in their allying with the Greeks. They were not even defending Italian soil, they were defending Greek soil!
Have you ever read Macchiavelli? States in the international system have always changed sides for political convenience, as seen repeatedly with England, France, Spain and the Holy Roman Empire. At times, Christian states would join with the Ottoman Muslims against other Christian states. Look at Japan, an Allied power in WWI, an Axis power in WWII. Good Lord, the US has done this, albeit covertly, which explains our current troubles in the world.
The Italians never had their hearts in the war as allies to the Axis Powers, and had nothing in common with the barbaric and cruel Germans and Japanese. Whether it was the Romans in ancient times, the Genoese and Venetians in medieval times, the Italians in the Dodecanese islands (Rhodes, etc.) in modern times, and even the Italian occupation during World War II, Italian rule in Greece was far more benevolent than any other occupier. Italians will always be our brothers!
