The frog is the part of the bow that is attached to the stick and holds the horsehair on the bow. On the german bow you hold the frog and stick in the palm, while with the french bow you hold it like a violin bow, over the stick. You don't really use a bow on a Bass Guitar, meaning more finger pain if you don't have calluses built up. Good thing I do, from playing pizzicato on my upright.
