Why is it that water in the arctic is warming faster than land despite the fact that it takes more energy to warm waters ?

Pretty simple actually, The land is white with snow, and the WHITE reflects heat. The ocean is deep blue, the BLUE absorbs heat. Bottom line, global warming is a fact, and unless we reduce our emissions, we will destroy the planet completely. Look up "heat absorption and colors." Go to Google and put that into the search box and you'll see why it occurs.

Most land are not white, most lands are green, grey or brown. The deep blue of oceans may absorbs more heat, but the artic is white, so why does it warm so fast ? And does the heat absorbtion depending on the color of the surface explains such a difference ?

Sorry, we thought you meant the land mass in the Arctic. The reason the ocean APPEARS to be warming fatser is that it is more difficult to cool than the land. Periods of cooler temperatures over land can cool land masses slightly, but oceans retain heat far better, and since 2009 will be the hottest year on record in the past 150 years or more, the oceans will continue to heat up. It's also a low period for Sun spots, making it a bit cooler, but it's supposed to be even hotter after this period.

Currently the warmest year on record is 1998, which saw average temperatures of 14.52 degrees celsius - well above the 1961-1990 long-term average of 14 degrees celsius.

We, the people, only put out 3 percent of carbon emissions. The other 97 percent is natural. Global warming may be a real thing, but I don't think humans have anything to do with it. @FatherOfOden completely untrue. the vast majority of CO2 comes from humans burning fossils. Infact its something like 100 billion tonnes a day. Volcanoes release a small amount in comparison. I dont know how much is produced by living eingd, but I assume plants abosrb it in a continuous cycle. By cutting down trees and burning more fuels, we are just making the situation a lot worse.
