Anda was so off the Richter Scale. I mean really. There were/are of course other renowned pianists and people have their favorites, but this guy was so beyond as to objectively be the best at least in recorded history.
I've heard and seen some real masters but Anda......., nonpareil. Period.
Get your hands on the 1969 DG recording of Brahms Nr. 2 B-dur op.83 (#474 838-2) with Anda behind the driver's seat, in the passenger seat was, who else...., Von Karajan and his Berliner Phil. pals. !!!
Geza Anda was very very good with this sort of concerto. Strangely, he didn't do well with the d minor concerto. (try Colin Davis and Steven Bishop Kovacevich for that one). I love this concerto.
One thing I like about Anda's interpretations: they are never boring! The annoying thing about a lot of pianists is that before they step onto the platform, we can already predict how they are going to interpret the works. It is never the case with a true virtuoso like Anda.
This is my personal favorite among all of Mozart's piano concertos. In K453 Mozart reached the peak of his inspiration and imagination. The subtle interplay between light and shadows, laughters and tears, joy and sorrow are all conveyed to the listeners most intimately and touchingly. Anda's justly famous recording does full justice to Mozart's genius. Many thanks, David, for sharing this gem.

This pianist has the ability and taste to play Mozart well. Very few can make this claim.

I love the characteristic Geza-Anda-sound. It appears so delicate to me and unlike other pianos this piano sounds not so aggressive.

Geza Anda reveals himself as the supreme Mozartian in the whole series of these concertos.
