  • Why can't they just put those Alco's behind 3254??!!

  • i know

  • Zoltan Bebto from Budapest.Hungary,Europe.

  • well the 2317 is out of service so oh well. that locomotive is really cool and its much stronger on the hills .i have a fealling that not alot of railfans like the 3254 .its just as good if not better!

  • @shininghappyperson7 Well, if you want my opinion, 2317 is a better looking locomotive. Also, it's a rare sight to see it pull excursions anymore!

  • @guitboxchicken well shes outa service for 5 years.3254 fills my steam craving for now atleast

  • @shininghappyperson7 Well, she's out for her 5 year inspection. That does not mean the inspection & overhaul will take five years. It means every 5 years, federal law mandates a complete overhaul. Theoretically, it could take less time. Knowing Steamtown, I'd say she's out indefinitely, unless they get some serious funding, and manpower.

  • I would have backed the train down the hill and come up faster rather than have those two pieces of shit on the train.

  • Me too...

  • @3254man huhhhhhhh?Alco locomotives are about as rare as a steam locomotive.i dont really like that there on the front ither, but there still pretty rare in this day and age.

  • @3254man Those two pieces of "crap" sure did snatch that steamer and its coaches right on up the hill didn't it? I love steam as much as the next, but you've gotta give classic Alco power its due.

  • that CNR engineruns to much...now, I know what your thinking (a steam engine in 2008 runs to much?). No, the CNR engine (even though it is nice) runs the over-the-road excursions now) My dad, for my 4th, 5th, and 6th birthday took me to steamtown, we agreed together that Canadian Pacifc 2317 is much more historical, and looks (and sounds) better. In fact, that's how I started to like The CPR. I have never felt anything like riding in the cab of 2317 3 years ago, screw Cn, love CP, and great vid!

  • I like both engines, but I do agree that the CNR engine runs too much. CN sucks nowadays, and CP has always been good.

  • well I guess CP needs some maintenance and until they get the money together for it theyre confining it to the yard

  • This reminds me of a quote my grand-pappy once told me. "A steamer can haul a train it can't start. A diesel can start a train it can't haul." Doesn't really apply here, but I just got reminded of the quote. Nice video, Ed. I really enjoy your movies. Steady camera, excellent angle, and beautiful sound and video quality.

  • the only downside about steam besides boiler explosions. They slip. But they last a hell of a lot longer than a deiesl or electric can.

  • what were they thinking with 10 loaded coaches?

  • They could have gotten up that hill without help.

  • @senselessfool Um, 3254 is built for freight service, and could probably haul that easily. I just think the management at Steamtown didn't want to push it. They don't seem to like running locomotives period, if you ask me.

  • And that's only one of many great scenes from that day. Keep em coming, Ed and Kelvin!

  • Nice Alcos, and what's the gradient (like 5 percent) on that line?

  • Fanstastic clip! The angle, location and sunlight were perfect...and kind of a history repeat because NKP 759 stalled there in the 70's.

  • Wicked capture Ed! Thise to see a ALCo doing the work again.

    Cheers,

    Count

  • Wow, that is so cool.

  • ALCO to the rescue!

  • Great clip! I wish I could've gotten footage of the rescue.

  • Beautiful, just beautiful! 5* Faved.

  • No Ed, it doesn't get much better than that.
