  • Awesome vids dude and I made a homemade knife like your machete it's pretty sick, I wanna own some woodland when I'm old enough, can you do some blowgun hunting vids ?:)

  • it looks cosy :)

  • How long do you think this shelter will last before the wood rots or you need to replace materials?

  • Wow, nice Dave, but I can hear a lot of cars go by how close are you to the road?

  • what is it with all these hateful armchair experts? bushcraft is all about exchanging you knowledge with others not scorning them because the do things differently

  • shit

  • make a camp rake for claer debris dont wanna get cuts or bites makeing shelter. have you ever made a living shelter? during the early growinf season(spring) just after the buds start poppin from the branches you can weave willows and other small bushes into a dome that continues growing great hunting blinds and shelter perfect camo and will stay for many seasons with light touch ups. little northern native trick enjoy

  • make a camp rake for claer debris dont wanna get cuts or bites makeing shelter

  • you putting a "Tarp" over the shelter ?! Is'nt that cheating ? You may as well just use a tent !!

  • @cyberjackcyberjack He explained that he put the tarp up to keep it dryer and more warm so he can bring his nephew out there during the winter months... Or do you think It would be better for his nephew to be cold and have a horrible time and lose interest in bushcraft or the outdoors in general?

  • @BUCKrub91 i was only saying you havent got to get all philosophical on me

  • hey i really like your videos i live in alabama. me and brother and my uncle recently went hiking and camping we actually did sort of a survival thing i made a bush bow like u did and killed two rabbits and a deer.If you can send me back a message.

    thank adam..

  • @eagleplayer84 Okay kid, it's not very mature to lie on the internet. Yes I can believe you did the "survival thing" but you killing two rabbits and a deer... With only a bush bow. Were deer even in season? How much archery training did you have previously? How close did you get to that deer?

  • looks good........ your sons are lucky

  • i wish your were my dad my dad doesnt even take me places

  • @2:36 HORK LMAO!! LOVE ya Dave

  • damn i wish u were my dad......

  • DAVE SOME OF THESE PEOPLE ARE TO LAZY TO DO THIS KIND OF STUFF SO THAY SIT ON THERE ASS AND WHATCH YOU DO IT TO USE HIND SIGHT TO SAY TAY KNOW MORE THAN YOU.I SAY FU TO THEAM. GOOD JOB DAVE....

  • excellent! thumbs up!

  • I've been hooked on your "bam-in-your-face" methods ever since avidly watching Dual Survival episodes over and over again. I have to say props! I've never gone camping, nor hunting; Jaysus I life in Miami. Anyhow Dual Survival and your Pathfinder videos are great instructional tools and hypnotic to boot. Keep on rocking. I love all of your videos and what you do.

  • Guess that would work, long as theres a white man size fire in front.

  • i would have dug that in intead of logs

  • The sun will eat through that tarp in no time my friend but otherwise very good quality shelter

  • nutnfancy deffently knows what hes doing my only complaint about him is that he thinks his way is the only way.

  • "That fuck"? Wow that's way over the top dude. I don't know how much of nutn's stuff you've watched but he has tons of hard use footage on line.

He's got more than enough experience to make an educated opinion commentary on a knife without taking it to the bush. It would be better if he had some time holding one, but he offers several valid criticisms.

And he's right about the Tracker; it is overhyped.

  • Dave where did you get that tarp? I'm looking for ones like that! please advise!

  • Were are all the challenge videos being posted?I missed it by one day,but would have posted something by now.

  • I choose it to test it's capabilities not to say this is better than that-?????

  • Look up Nutnfancy's review on the Tom Brown Tracker, that should explain why you should buy the Pathfinder knife instead... Or at least why not to buy the Tom Brown Tracker knife.

  • Dave uses the TBT himself, watch his other videos. Plus in nutnfancy's review he didn't even have the knife in hand, so I'd be inclined to do further research on the effectiveness of it. TBT is considered more of a tool than a knife.

  • If you have watched more of Dave's videos He says the tom brown tracker can take the place of two or three tools if you have nothing else. Nutnfancy who I also subscribe to mainly does "bivawak" camping where in he carries a Lot of gear that is a whole diffident style not "light and fast" minimal that Dave uses.

  • Nutnfancy would hike out to location X Bivwak there then "day hike" around the general area which is a valid system works great. What Dave does is carries everything move..move...move If for example if you had to treck from Mississippi to Ohio and do at least 20 miles a day the pathfinder system would be alot more self self staining where in 1 tool that can do many different things

  • well said.

  • nutnfancy is an idiot

  • Nice

I heard of the tarp being hung 1-2 feet below the top support bar to hold more heat by causing a warm air trap to hold the heat in longer. what do you think , would it help?

    thanks

I never thought about the direction of the supports and odd sized wood.

    great.

  • sorry about the question about your sidearm. did not mean to make you put on a larger shirt. But why did you delete my question? if you carry a sidearm, who cares. you are in the woods and this would be something to protect one's self. I just would like to know what kind of weapon it is. thanks Hamm336

  • Hamm, I did not delete it, I never saw it? Anyway it is a S&W P22, I was not carrying it today.

  • dave, thank you. i did not mean to sound wrong. thanks

  • @wildernessoutfitters esd excited to think you were packing, LOL. It was his knife, he referanced at the start of the video.

    cheers

  • @wildernessoutfitters my favorite sidearm would have to be the Kimber Gold Match 2, gotta love a 45.

  • I'm confused, since you are using a tarp why even bother building the shelter?

  • As I said in Part 1 This will be for extended use and I want it warm and water proof, look for future updates

  • @echodawg

in a semi permanent shelter it needs to be strong(wood support), warm(brush for insulation) and waterproof(tarp, you can also use bark, pine boughs etc)

  • haha.

Hey Dave its funny i made a shelter exactly like this last summer for fun.

  • Hi, why are you using a tarp also and why the insulation, could you explain further on that Dave?

  • love you dave! keep up the great work! im a huge follower and probley one of your more devoted fans.

  • wal mart sucks! the buy everything from china! support the u.s.a right dave? i mean your show is on self reliance... so why not have it apply to more than just you, how about your WHOLE COUNTRY

  • give me a name of trap that you can buy that is made in the U.S.. certain things are not made in the U.S. any more, you can blame FDR, and kenndy for that, not Dave. China is gaining world power, the only way to stop that is to get off your ass, and tell your kids to work hard in school, and get a good education so one day we may be the world power again.

  • end the fed and then you can dream again about education .

  • @featherian yes we must end the federal reserve if we want to be able to continue to have freedom or were all gonna be livin out in the woods! when everyone is kicked out of their houses

  • where can i get a thick tarp like that to leave with my semi-perm shelter?

  • i got one like that at walmart in the sporting goods dept.

  • Ive seen these shelters made many times...but im just a little confused on how it can keep heavy rain off of you? I live in NE Ohio and we get some crazy rain...i cant help but feel like i would get soaked. I guess im just curious about how well they work...

  • Hehe im 34, and im going to do something similar on my vacation. Exactly for the purpose of being kid again.

  • why the branches over sticks, when theres a tarp? Insulation from what?

  • sweet

  • nice work dave 5* from me again

  • u got ur knife who is confused? this isnt for contest

u mentioned ur youngest son how old is he i may be wrong but the child you had on vid is nephew or am i ass backwards?

  • wow....never seen anything like that before.....an insulated lean 2

  • well ,im sure you dont have time to read all the comments but your message ,is clear ,and not only you say but you do,

i do respect that big time

i can tell you that you are a top of the top and we doing some comping hiking and wild camping and i can tell you ,i spread the message ty dave

  • Any thought about substituting a sweat lodge design for this lean to? The sweat lodge would be impervious to the weather. And it would take a lot less fire to keep it warm. (Heated stones would be used.) I'm just curious.

  • Great job Dave. I love your wilderness survival vids. Can't wait to see you on the Discovery Channel, your gonna kick butt!

  • Good looking shelter Dave.

  • Next base camp still building.

  • Awesome job Dave!! really cool shelter

  • Lookin comfy

  • awsome

  • Thanks for addressing my concerns.

    Great job Dave!
