  • all I know is that the 7 series has the best handling I have driven before

  • that particular e38 has the nikosil engine that has engine cylinder compression issues caused by the sulfur in gas in america. The cylinders will cross- hatch making the car idle rough and in some cases lose 15%power or die all together. This is the 4.0 and it was replaced in 1997 with the alasil engine 4.4

  • Thanks for the Wikipedia answer there, I own a 1995 740I and have put on 208k (miles) on original motor and transmission and it's still running strong. It depends on how you treat and maintain these fine vehicles. I plan on driving it all the way to 300k (miles) why not it still runs real good.

  • well not sure about your reply to my answer Im flattered that it is listed in wikipedia...I am a BMW tech..eventually the the old engines will lose compression..I recommend some 44k additive for the fuel system and engine restore for each 7500k mile oil change to ensure the sleeves wont weaken.take the advice or not is your choice...if you live in a colder climate you may have a rougher idle also, but to make sure its not the ic vavle clean it and reinstall and see how it runs then..take care

  • are you the one on craigslist with the small pics ? you`ve been there for a pretty long time, whats the problem with the car ?
