I love the music of Heart. But isn't it strange that all of these famous and 'talented' musicians just happen to all come from multi-generational, military families and or families with intelligence community connections. Google Dave McGowan's excellent "Laurel Canyon" series. Something tells me that the CIA is the invisible 'wizard' behind the curtain in the entertainment industry.
Stuttering probably forced Ann to learn how to better control her breathing while singing. She is not the only famous singer to overcome this problem. Country singer/actor Mel Tillis is well known for his stutter while speaking. "The Talk" is on CBS at 1PM Monday-Friday. The red haired woman is Ozzy Osbourne's wife, Sharon.
There was no other WOMEN in rock in the 70's......hmmmm, sounds to me like that qualifies them to be IN THE ROCK 'N ROLL HALL OF FAME!! (which hopefully will happen next year)...fingers crossed that the Rag-a-muffin's-for-brains, who select who is inducted will come to their senses.
I've seen Ann and Nancy in concert FIFTEEN times!! I was born and raised in a place that these ladies love to perform. The San Francisco bay area!! It is their second home!!
Ann has got to be so tired of telling that story. I know I've heard it a dozen times at least. I would have liked to hear some more probing quesitons like how they made the decision to go with the group of musicians they currently have after the departure of Howard Leese (and why Howard left the band to begin with). The current lineup is a bit more edgy but most of the members are relative unknowns.
Ann is such a unique, complex character. On the one hand, her public persona has been this kick-ass rock chick, tough, bold, brassy, able to handle anything. On the other, she has occasionally revealed a much more vulnerable side, like when she talks about her stuttering problem or her struggles with her weight. I think she would be the coolest person to get to know, to kind of open up that softer side.
I love how Nancy took a 'Sigh' after the question of 'Barracuda' was asked. It's like, ask some original questions. Sharon saying "The Sisters Are Here" was awesome! I liked that they brought up their sister, Lynn. It's great to know that Ann & Nancy were asked to be on OPRAH but had a show the day of the filming! Rock on, sistas! =)
When Ann states that the sleaze-bag pervert made her angry,I think that's a major under-statement.That woman saw RED!!! If someone said that about me & 1 of my sisters,I'd hog-tie him & put a sign on him saying "PERVERT" & chain his butt to a street pole downtown where everyone could see this mentally unstable freak! That story will last as long as the song exists. That's a curse on the perve.Ann put a curse on him.I wish his name was known, then we could take the curse a little bit further..lol
I completely agree, Ann has always played great this tool, you see few women to master the instrument and less on the rock. Excellent video, thank you wholeheartedly.
Thanks!! Now you know the true story about why Ann wrote the song, "Barracuda"!! I've been a fan of Heart since the mid-70s. I never knew that Ann had a very bad stuttering problem when she was a child!!
No, Ann and Nancy performed after this segment. I don't know what song that they did. It was more than likely "Barracuda" since they talked about this song. This is also Heart's most popular song.
Heart has a nickname of "The Female Led Zepplin" because they have done many of LZ's songs. They always end their concert with Led Zepplin's "Rock and Roll"!!
If I were ever able to speak to Ann, I would request that she play the flute much more often!! She is excellent on that instrument!!
Wow, this is GREAT! Thanks so much for posting as I don't get this show and the CBS video post on their page is unavailable to those of living in Canada. Was this the entire segment Heart was on The Talk?
