@donabrams1 All I know is that his obit said it was a heart problem. When I visited him in LA, he wasn't doing anything illicit except for weed.....he seemed pretty healthy; was into riding his bike at Venice Beach. He liked to party whenever he came back to VA for visits, tho'!
@donabrams1 Did u play when Kurtis Teel (RIP) played bass? We dated for awhile in '74-75; he was from my hometown in VA......He loved his Ibanez bass!!
@sandynfk1 Hey, sure I paled with Kurtis! A great player and quite a character! 74 and 75 was the time we worked together. Do you know where he ended up?
@donabrams1 He was living in LA the last time I saw him, which was sometime in the early-mid eighties. He was playing with Rita Coolidge, then with Reggie Knighton. He passed away a few years later, at age 32. So young...I still miss him!
@donabrams1 What happen to the trumpet solo for this song. The spot for it was at 4:02.I guest you are correct this is not MFSB.You played trumpet right?
@vozzervox- There's a few things that break down the race barrier....Music is one of them. This is a great song. I'm proof that you don't have to be coked up to appreciate this music. I'm a 40 year old white guy, and I've never done coke. I like this song cold sober!
the O 'Jays are still a great group/ Fort The Love Of Money also a great bassline. Everybody knows this song. I met Dennis the bandleader and piano player in New Orleans in the early 80's. I play bass guitar for a group at the time called Cool Enterprise. Dennis is a cool down to earth musician. Love Ya'll !!
sounds like shit.

Impossibly good! As good as it got with Motown and that's says a TON! Can't imagine seeing these guys live back then!

@GeorgeRBM1999 This ain't Motown. This is Phildelphia International. The label of legendary producers, Gamble & Huff.

That's not MFSB..Thats their road band in which I played trumpet for 3 years. In my opinion, we payed harder and with more energy!!!
