  • This was great in 76, Travis Barker could do this in his sleep. hold on to your memories. have nice day.

  • @BigL513 how can you sleep at night knowing you put travis barkers name on here, he is not worthy of having his name on here

  • This sucks no video???

  • Right on! I've heard this before- When I was There!!!! Such an awesome concert- I'll never forget! Thanks for the "tune"

  • I can hear the pixels...

  • I'm not trying to be a jerk, but are you sure that this was from 1976? He played the cowbell part for "The Trees" and that wasn't released until 1978. Or, maybe we were hearing a snapshot of the future and what was to come? :) In all, I loved this audio. People don't realize that this was one of the more innovative drum solos of that time. Neil Peart and Phil Colllins of the British band Brand X were really creating new sounds for progressive rock and with Phil, Fusion. Thanks for the upload!!!

  • I wore out several 8 tracks of 2112 in 1977-1978---saw them live in 1980---been hooked ever since!!!! Love the drum solo and had a ring side seat for it !! Thanks for the post!

  • Neil sure loved those double-bass triplets back in the day.

  • My Casio drum machine is better.

  • @bozolazic Good for you CRACKER HEAD

  • @DRUMACHINE69 My mind is not for rent, to any God or government. How did you know that I was whitey?Neil is a wise man and a superb drummer.Just found that Casio statement funny and so would Neil.

“Earth is the insane asylum of the universe.”

    ― Albert Einstein

  • @bozolazic I've said this in the past. I will no longer tolerate ASSHOLES ! I will leave their comments with my response for a while, so other people can read their RETARDED comments and my response to them. Then I will DELETE them when I am ready.

I didn't know if you were white or not, that's a term we use to respond to Idiots.

    I only allow Positive feedback.

  • @DRUMACHINE69 So your not in favor of freedom of speech.Neil would laugh and move on.So censor my comment and move on.Godspeed.

  • @bozolazic That's one hell of a Casio drum machine you have then.

  • @firstmusic00 It's of the future. It can combine Neil, Buddy Rich and Dave Weckl and others together as one.I received it from Micheal J. Fox.;)

  • Actually, I think that's where this is from haha. A rare album I guess. It's their first live album I think.

  • Is solo is very similar to All The Word's A Stage. Love hearing the old stuff.

  • I want a phaser on my kit during my solos, too! Not enough phaser use these days...

  • My goodness..........its like he's not even human...........

    RUSH=best band in the world

NEIL PEART=best drummer in the world

i just saw a vid of a kid ripping off neil's der trommler and that kid won third place in britains got talent because he claimed it was his solo

  • Neil Peart: The most awesomest drummer in the last 5000 years.

  • Too fucking awesome!

  • Now to step into a time machine & go back to June 15, 1976 @ Massey Hall in Toronto, Ontario, Canada where this was recorded for the live album All the World's A Stage!

  • dude this is the best solo ever i just seen him in concert in April and he completely changed it it still has the same beat but its better and totally different!!!!

  • even back then he was a professor :D

  • bonham would do this standin on his head with one stick and 'one' bass drum..

  • @rubberneckk what kind of gas do you sniff?

  • It is truly amazing to me that someone could have such a miserable boring life that they would whine that an audio only track was posted on youtube lol you should just uninstall!!

  • @ProdigalChild1 Thanx for you support. You should have seen at the beginning when it was first posted. All kinds of Neil Peart haters, or complainers. I put this for people who never heard this old Solo to enjoy. Not to be attacked.

  • @DRUMACHINE69 ya dude...great solo btw...Peart is da man!

  • @939Socket Thanks for butting in on a discussion, and randomly commanding people to shut up. Your mother must love you.

Oh, and by the way: do something useful with your life before criticizing others. You don't upload shit, but still you verbally abuse other YT users who try to contribute to online society. Fucking pathetic.

If you'd actually read what I typed, you'd have seen why Last fm was relevant. I admitted to DRUMACHINE69 he was right, which is still none of your business. Now fuck off.

  • Here are some of my songs.

    CHAOS - DelRio2112 - Youtube search ( iWqfk9HNcGI )

    Jack Hammer - DelRio2112 - Youtube search ( qMRsUCO7MV4 )

  • What's the point of uploading a video with only audio, and no video?

  • @XxSharkBatexX - The point is, Youtube isn't only for video's. Many people upload Audio only. I posted this for people who like Neil Peart. There is no video for this particular drum solo. If you are not happy, then go somewhere else !!!!!!!

  • @XxSharkBatexX I have no tolerance for people who aren't happy with either this upload, or Neil Peart's ability to play drums. This is my post, and I will not tolerate anything negative about this upload. Anyone who try's to defy me in this matter, will just have their comment deleted. It's as simple as that. My post, my rules. I put this here for other Neil Peart fans to enjoy, because lots people have never heard this Solo.

  • @XxSharkBatexX lol did you seriously just compare an audio only upload to committing a crime. A talented Troll you are but now kindly fuck off

  • @XxSharkBatexX its a video of a stioll image dumbass.

  • @XxSharkBatexX So people like you have something to bitch about. Whats the point of bitching about somebody posting an audio on you tube?

  • this is from all the worlds a stage. one of the first albums i bought with birthday money lol thanks for posting it. drumachine.

  • They must be at Disneyland, because Mickey Mouse introduced him. Also, Neil is invisible in this one, so it must be D land special effects.

  • This was one of his first solos live and some parts sounded like his actual solo so he is a genious since the beggining!!!

  • jeez, Neil's so great he just floats naked over the drum kit showing off his perfect butt and the the drums play themselves!!

  • it's a great solo when you're a stoned teenager. In hindsight, it's rather mediocre...Don't get me wrong, I saw RUSH on The Farewell To Kings, Hemispheres, Moving Pictures, and Permanent Waves tours and I used to love their stuff.

  • @69torus USED to??

you cant outgrow their material that applies to anyone..

Not bubblegum pop these guys are great!

  • @69torus Still sounds great to me and I'm a sober 42 year old. ;)

  • What people don't know is, during this preference, Neil Pert actually sprouted 2 extra sets of arm's our of his torso, each set longer then the one previous. His cranium then split at the top and allowed for a superior brain to swell thus giving him optimal control over his six dis-proportioned arm's.... he proceeded to play the drum solo and bedazzle the crowd. Burton Cumming's even had an orgasm during the performance as he watched in the audience.

  • "the professor on the drumkit!"

  • Nice find man. Havent heard this in a long time! Brings back many memories when I was a kid and trying to figure all of Neil's stuff out! Thanks again

  • I do not like rush at all...

but this man is one badass motherfucker even in his mid 50's he's still better than all the newer people

    goddamn

  • @3CHEESE07 thats a shame dude... but props for recognizing neil

  • If youve listened to Peart over the years you can still hear some remnants of this solo, yet at the same time they have evolved over the years. I give Neil credit for not remaining stagnant and in the comfort zone. He seems to strive to improve and build upon things and no two solos are ever exactly alike. I'll never forget hearing him for the first time and being absolutely blown away wondering "who the fuck is this guy,he's great"!!!

  • I don't believe their is video of this particular performance.

  • Amazing at that young of an age and career, he lived up to a nickname like "The Professor!" It's cool to hear how some of his early ideas became staples of his later solos.

  • WOW!! I haven't heard this since 1980 when I had my fixed up 64 Chevy pickup with an 8 TRACK!!! I LOVED his drum solo on thier 1st live project. Neil is most definetly the PROFESSOR!!! Thanks for posting this.

  • THIS IS THE SOLO THAT STARTED ME DRUMMING, 35 YEARS ON AND I LOVE RUSH MORE THAN EVER.

    PARADIGM.

  • Great solo... there's always so much to learn from Peart.

  • i saw neil on the farewell to kings tour with ufo ...god this was an awesome solo

  • @spermdog18 was it the same solo as this one (the 2112 solo)?

  • How does this solo compare to O'Basteria on Rush and Rio, I might ask? Well, Im glad you asked me. imo, this solo is just as good in its own way, even though Rush in rio solo is technically more challenging.

  • Would be cool to see him in his early years, but this is still great. Funny that he adds the John Bonhamish distortion at the end. This is from 1976 and this is now about 34 years old. Wow, am I getting old or what.

  • A pristine recording works against rock/metal, imho

  • This solo has alot more energy than any of his subsequent solos. I think its due to lo-fi sound: Overdriven levels + sub-par recording quality = a more riveting and live- sounding performance.

  • Audio is the only thing available. I would have the vid if one was out. :) NP was the one that inspired me to drum back in the 80's. Good to hear this...it has been a long time.

  • anybody have video of this?

  • Neil joined the band right before they played the first gig in at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh right after they signed with Mercury (after self publishing on Moon records 3500 copies), which was in 1974.

  • Rush is a Canadian rock band originally formed in August 1968, in the Willowdale neighbourhood of Toronto, Ontario, composed of bassist, keyboardist, and lead vocalist Geddy Lee, guitarist Alex Lifeson, and drummer and lyricist Neil Peart. The band and its membership went through a number of re-configurations between 1968 and 1974, achieving their current form when Peart replaced original drummer John Rutsey in July 1974, two weeks before the group's first U.S. tour.

  • neil peart was born in hagersville, grew up in port dalhousie (st.catharines, ontario)

  • @DRUMACHINE69 Whatever happened to giving John Rutzey credit? First drummer for Rush, died in 2008.

  • @philconey11 - Although he was the first drummer, this post is not about RUSH, it's about Neil Peart, and one of his first amazing drum solo's.

  • Do some research before you post. Rush's 1st album came out in '74.

  • ok yup that was dumb. I have rhapsidy to go subscrition and ive beeb listening to all their 70's stuff lately. rush was ALL PROG back then.

    wow.

  • Rush started in the early-mid seventys.

  • I believe they actually started in the late 60's....

  • @CSXer Right but Rush isnt Rush without Neil

  • @NintendoSwii nah not true, rutsey was great too.

The band and its membership went through a number of re-configurations between 1968 and 1974, achieving their current form when Peart replaced original drummer John Rutsey in July 1974, two weeks before the group's first U.S. tour

  • it's ackshally 1973.

  • rush was formed in the late 60s, peart joined in 74 after their original drummer left the band due to medical problems. get your facts straight!

  • ok ok ok ok. wow your only the 100th person to have a cow bout this.

um yup, NP joined the band in nineteen hundred and seventy fuking four. Now read my opinion on this solo. it kicks ass. especially consdierin he played it in 1976!

  • @dwilmer7 I was in HS in the 70s and this was my favorite album at the time, make no mistake RUSH has been around since the late 60s.

  • @dwilmer7 WHAT!! Then who did i see at Massey Hall for the A.T.W.A.S. show.

  • @dwilmer7 um. Rushs first album was released in early 70s bro, i wanna say '74 but not 100% sure

  • i honestly think he is overated big time

  • He did use Ludwig for a time. I believe it was on the Hold Your Fire and Roll the Bones albums.

  • Yes he did, as well as on Presto. They were Ludwig Super-Classics.

  • Neil Peart RULES.........check out mike pritchett drum solo you tube

  • Neil was so cool back then....And still is......

  • The old school Peart really inspired me.

  • There are so many drummers and so many styles that No one is the best ever. BUT. Neil peart has got to be the best rock drummer ever

  • Those are all Slingerland Drums with Zildjian cymbals...shortly after that ...moved to Tama, then DW

  • and ludwig

  • wait a sec...i could swear he was on ludwig during the mid-late 80s. and evans heads. am i wrong?

  • nah dont think he ever used ludwig

  • I remember back in the late eighties - early nineties he played Ludwig's for a few years.

  • this isn't premier and the cymbals aren't pasite either. The set is a slingerland and the cymbals are zildjian. And up until the last recent tours Neil still used the snare from this set he called "old Faithfull."

  • The set is premier, cymbals paiste.

  • i cant tell he used to play tama now dw but this is way back and paiste r u sure i couldnt picture him with piastes

  • A 1989 ford green taurus.

  • The car is just a used piece of junk. I hate fords but the particular lot i visited is just a few steps up from a junk lot.

  • Comment removed

  • Hey Monnett where is that new drum set? What kind is it? Did you finally pick a pair of sticks yet? What kind of car are you buying? Why does your brother hate Pro Mark and why does he think MP is better?

  • People, just shut up and enjoy the great drumming!

  • My god your right! Neil is too much of a great drummer for arguments! Now sit back and be awed by the professor!

  • I've said this in the past. I will no longer tolerate ASSHOLES ! I will leave their comments with my response for a while, so other people can read their RETARDED comments and my response to them. Then I will DELETE them when I am ready.

  • @DRUMACHINE69 so many people with idiotic comments. so few bullets, so little time.

  • This is not a video! Picture w/sound. No Action!!?BOO

  • LESS FILLING? OR TASTES GREAT?

  • BOTH!!!!!! haha

  • Years ago they used to call this effect vibra fibing the kit

  • THIS KIT is up on e-bay right now!!

  • Bro I have been a Peart fan since 80...trust me...of the 600 bootlegs I have and as a drummer since 82...he was using a flanger in his solos back then...he even used it in the late 83, 84, 85, 86 solos before the kit would turn. It's all good...sometimes he applied them to his snare...others to gong bass...other times to his concert toms.

  • It was more of a phaser sound such as the one heard on Kashmir by John Bonham they just add the phase sound to the mix

  • There is flanger or chorus on his kit.Listen to the cymbals & tom decay. The pitch moves.Neil can't control the decay. And he can't change the kick beater position ,either. This is the classic gated reverb & flanger sound.Who cares ? Neil is great & so is this solo. The effects just add another dimension to his solo. Thanks for posting this,it's awesome !! Put a mic on your kit & drive it hard into a flanger. You'll hear the same effect. The 'swishy' sounding cymbal is a dead give away.

  • the man, the legend ...the professor.

  • The effect you are refering to does not give the echo or chorus effect evident in the peformance.Sorry mate.

  • This is really cool. It's sweet to see the roots of his future solos.

  • more cowbell

  • wahhhh. you are a little jealous bitch.

  • this is one of his first times doing the cowbell thing right?

  • i lie the solo from a show of hands much better.....whats with the flanger on the drums?

  • I personally like the one from YYZ(All The World's A Stage),but the flange sound goes back to John Bonham and his Moby Dick solo.Neil Peart can play them all, including Buddy Rich style solos....but who's counting LOL.

  • My mistake. The solo I was refering to was from the Exit Stage Left album.

  • It's interesting that they were sharing bills with KISS back then, but while KISS' early years are quite well documented, Rush's early years unfortunately are not.

Even Gene Simmons, who can't speak well of anybody, talks great stuff about them in his autobiography; jokes between both bands are hilarious!

  • Which of Gene's books?

  • really? i didn't notice. *he says sorry i just have audio* in the information.

  • i love rush the best rock band ever to walk on this earth and the same goes for neil

  • i compare neil peart to buddy rich there are so good...

  • Classic. He clearly follows the Buddy Rich style of following almost everything with the never stopping bass drum.

  • This is still my Fav. drum solo from peart. these drums have punch, where his new ones seem to have a tinny sound

  • Great!! Is that steve perry of journey introducing neil!! It sounds just like him.

  • No. That's Geddy Lee. His voice has just changed over the years.

  • peart amd liefson...dont get any bettter

  • hes certainly one of the best things to happen to drums, has inspired many 1000s to play and also spotlights the drum kit as a melodic instrument, there are not too many that do it so well.. well bozzio is one.

  • jesus man... same elements in his drum solo on this very day... he's been loyal to his good ideas =)

  • the series at 1.50 is awesome... it's like he is discovering YYZ years b4 they made it. hoopaloop is the new beer pong.. check it. peace all.

  • true that! i was actually disappointed when he didnt use the classic cowbell part on his last solo. still fricking great though/. love him to death!!

  • Neil is the godfather of progrock drumming, I learned so much from him !!! Thanks for posting this solo, I really love Neil and the 70's !

  • Thanx for posting this solo from All The World's a Stage. Neil is a super talent. I like a lot of the drummers that folks are commenting on but when did drumming become a sport of winners & losers? Is it like a basketball game of stats? Isn't it music/musicians that we seek on these posts and not sports/athletes? Get over who you think is better & enjoy the drumming or just move on. This post is about Neil, if you wanna hear/see your favorite drummer go to their posts and enjoy.

  • I would say that Bonham, Moon, and Peart were pretty comparable in the 70's but I preferred Neil Peart. Add 30 years on Peart's resume and the point of who's the best is irrelevant. Neil Peart is the master, by far the best drummer that ever lived. People who don't think so just don't like his style, that's all.

  • "Best" is non existent in the context of artistic achievement. For instance: Weckl is lightyears ahead of Peart in the technique department. That is a solid fact regarding direct specific attributes, not a childish "Weckl is better" regurgitation.

  • good point. well put. thank you -

  • Yes I agree that Weckl is a better technical drummer, but "light years ahead" is way to much of an exaggeration. The funny thing is no one really knows just how good or what Neil can do. Only his solo's really show it, and he composes them to sound good, not really do his best or show off. In the genre he plays in he has to play within a song. In conclusion no one really knows how good he is because he doesn't get the chance to show it alot.

  • yea true ... but i think that jojo mayer is best that weckl tecnicaly... idk there are so many good drummers... steve gadd for exemple... i think that he knows every rudiment lol he is huge...

  • he is amazing....i saw rush 2 times in concert..noblesville,in.

  • seriously? Me too! BUT, more like 16 times...

  • They're all amazing! Lifeson doesn't get the credit he most obviosly deserves. 32 through that little downtown area sucks at 3:30 on. Going Anderson to Westfield. Sup

  • i've always liked the part starting around 1.12

only now i found out he plays it so much smoother nowadays.

He has obviously grown over the years.

    And that's an understatement.

I prefer the live in Rio solo.

    Rock on!

  • Hey. Can't we just get along. The caption above used to read

" Best Solo of all time " I meant for Neil, I didn't mean best solo ever produced ! If you don't like Neil Peart that's fine. You don't need to come here and bash him. I put up this solo for other Neil Peart fans to enjoy.

  • Joey is a pile of shit, just like everyone in that band.

  • wow you must be deaf then, cause i hear a lot more than double bass, and cymbals.

  • amen to that

  • you must be 16 or younger...

  • This is the solo that started it all. Never before had the drums been the focus of such musical structure in which the listener was carried through the piece as if listening to a well written song.

Neil is one of the very few drummers to be adored by hords of drummers AND non-drummers alike.

"It's like listening to a song, just with one instrument", one of them told me.

It's hard to beat a well-thought-out and exicuted statement - whether musical or literary.

  • keith moon came before... and so did bonham

if u ever listen to keith moon, his drumming follows the song and if taken apart, it is a song in its own. But same with all parts of the who,... take away any part, and its a completely different piece holding itself together, but so well constructed that when put back together again, it is one massive piece of complex genius

  • I'd venture to say that is (and should be) the case with and well-thought-out instrumental part. My comments, however, were focused on the solos that Neil presents to us. Moon and Bonham certainly inspired but, while their solos are to be followed, Neil's solos carry one through them standing on a foundation of musical continuity, well rehearsed exicution and instrumental 'chops' that neither Moon nor Bonham had on their best day. But,.....they're fun to listen to, anyway!

  • now that is the most respectable reply ive ever heard on youtube.

  • nice try but u sound like an idiot

  • i dont think so. Fine, here it is from another angle. Mitch Mitchell. Watch him play; with his inventive style of jazz/rock fusion.

and I think that you sound like an idiot. I mean, here I am posting an arguementative thought... and all you do is say that I'm an idiot without justifying how that is so.

  • u still sound like an idiot

  • I love Neil's solos, but he did not invent this format. Well before Neil there were extended drum solos that had musical structure. Check out Joe Morello, Max Roach, Ginger Baker, Louie Bellson, Papa Jo Jones, and others. Neil would be the first to point this out, if asked.

  • Its not like anyone is saying Neil Peart invented the non sucky drum solo. He is just good at not sucking.

  • I love Neil, Him and Danny Carey are my favorite Prog-rock drummers.

  • yeah dude i have some of danneys sticks and theyre HUGE man!

  • or 4 pounds of make up lol

  • That chocolate analogy leaves too much open to personal opinion. For instance, my OPINION is that white chocolate tastes great too, while it is FACT that Neil Peart kicks Joey Jordinson's ass.

  • I prefer the solo on "Exit Stage Left", its a bit cleaner and the audio is better.

  • thats because they went back in the studio and touched it up a bit
