stringer was the best actor in this show. he wasn't about the typical gangster bullshit, he was a true businessman. He funnelled all of his money into all those businesses and then he just wanted to go legit...it was avon who wanted to keep the towers and the corners. stringer didn't care about controlling the streets once he was sitting on all that downtown real estate.
@jlef604 wtf, so he got played his forst time around, and now he's stupid? what do you think would happened if clay went out and tried to run them corners? he would have his bumps in the road shit he might get shot, stringer would have learned from that experience, shit if he didn't get shot by brotha and omar that would have been the best thing to happen for string. Oh btw fuck you.
bodie is the best gangster in the series. Stringer is just dirty and self serving as hell. Bodie was always a good soldier and was only gonna turn when marlo started loosing his way and was killing just to kill
Man I swear everybody that got killed on the wire deserved it these niggas either fucked up sumthin or snitched I'm sittin here watching dee snitch like a hoe he shuda been out the game,he really shied Neva got in it
Love this interpretation from Alan Sepinwall's Wire blog: "When he asks, over and over, where Wallace is, what he's really asking is, "Why have I sold out of my future for a couple of remorseless psychopaths like you and my uncle?," "How do you not get that it's the bodies that keep attracting the cops' attention?," "Why does The Game have to play out this way?," "Why should I be loyal to bosses who have no loyalty to their employees?"
I always thought it would be kind of funny if, as a joke on the actor who plays D'Angelo, the producers had Wallace walk in from behind him and just be like, "I'm right here"
@vF0323@jmeiskues I thought of Avon too, but though they were business "partners," Avon was really Stringer's boss, so a boss standing up to his employee isn't really accurate. Slim did briefly *disagree* with String over the Clay Davis killing, but it was pretty light and he was saved-by-the-Barksdale, as it were. vF's point is right, I think: D did eventually stand up to Stringer, without the benefit of a gun or a badge. Of course, it got him killed, but he did it.
Um... someone really should tell that guy that the game is called "where's Waldo", and he's kind of easy to spot, given his red and white striped shirt and hat. In my opinion, he's taking the game way too seriously, though.
@TheGravitationist aw sorry man. yeah i assumed anyone watching this would have been past that part. either way youre in for plenty more surprises throughout the season.
@DoctorDoomXIII It took me until the theme song in the first episode to get into lol. I feel like if those professional television critics can't figure it out, they shouldn't be judging.
Best show in television history, hence best scene in television history. Aside from the obvious, look at the amazing layout of this scene: you got the glass window pane with the strictly business part of the game on one side (Stringer and Levy) and the emotional, human side on the other (D'Angelo). Very few scenes in movies or television give me chills when I watch, this is definitely one of them.
String is smart and business savvy, but he also let his smarts get the best of him and would kill a kid and family member when he thinks its the right thing to do. At the end it's his decision to put a hit on Father Mouzone for the good of the business that ultimately comes back to bit him in the ass.
One of the most emotional scenes in the series. D'Angelo was such an amazing character. He is the classic example of the battle between good and evil. At first, D was seen as just this evil drug dealer who killed people ruthlessly. But towards the end of the first season, we get a different view: he's just a guy with a good heart who grew up in the wrong environment.
I only JUST finished watching all 5 seasons of the Wire for the first time. I regret not doing so much earlier...
Taken out of context it loses some impact, but you can feel the emotion knowing why D is so upset if you have seen the episodes, even if you haven't witnessed the series that's some powerful shit and incentive enough to go out and watch the greatest series that graced television.
Undoubtably a great scene, undoubtably not the best in the wire. That could only be the one where D'Angelo explains the rules of chess to his young charges.
The best scene in the Wire, for my money, is when McNulty confronts Brianna and tells her that he has evidence that D was killed by Stringer's people. He says something along the lines of: "I would have told you sooner, but the evidence wasn't clear; and the way you treated him, I didn't think you'd care."
I've just finished the first season of The Wire, and all I can say is that it's the absolute bollocks. And I've still got four more left to watch? Fuck, I'm gonna enjoy it. D'Angelo is probably my favourite character along with Omar. The latter is only a bit-part player, yet has such a huge influence on the case itself. And he's the Don.
Incredible scene. It's power derives from the fact that it is loaded with an emotional punch that, at that point, had been nearly a full season in the making. It was the inevitable climax of slow, meticulous character and story development. This is where TV trumps the movies. TV has months, years to slowly develop the story. The truly great series use it to full effect, in scenes like these. The only other show that comes close in this regard is Mad Men: The Wheel scene, for instance.
The only 4 people i can remember that stood up to Stringer face to face were McNulty, Omar, Brother, and D'Angelo. One had a badge and the other two had guns.
I'm a big fan of the wire and the sopranos, but hands down I'm gonna have to give it to the wire....the wire was one of the those shows that always had your interest, The Sopranos would hit its dry points at times and get too mixed up in tony and lidia's dysfunctional mother son relationship....

Hell, it's probably not the best scene in that episode. The scene where D "flips" and gives up all the murders is the one that gets me. You see so clearly just how wide the gap is between his experience, and the experience of everyone else in the room. They can lock him away, but they can't know what and where he's coming from.
String was looking at him,but not in the eyes because he knows that D'angelo had begged him and Avon not to murder Wallace.D was pissed cause he just got caught with a key and they want him to take the weight for it but they couldn't even honor his wishes.
Wallace is currently in Red Tails. Go see it its half decent

Hell, it's probably not the best scene in that episode. The scene where D "flips" and gives up all the murders is the one that gets me. You see so clearly just how wide the gap is between his experience, and the experience of everyone else in the room. They can lock him away, but they can't know what and where he's coming from.

That's fucking amazing acting, you feel the hurt and the anger of D who probably loved Wallace like a brother.

String killed Wallace cause Wallace said his name but he didn't have to kill Wallace.
That Wallace scene hurts everytime I see it, I can't even look at it no more. Powerful T.V. show

String was looking at him,but not in the eyes because he knows that D'angelo had begged him and Avon not to murder Wallace.D was pissed cause he just got caught with a key and they want him to take the weight for it but they couldn't even honor his wishes.
