Hey, i have the same problem as kurentmalik,

when i get on blender and open yafaray 0.1.1 in the scripts window... i get an error in the console that says,

ImportError: No module named platform

i tried looking around so many places and fourms but i cant find how to fix this..

im trying to get this to work on blender 2.49b which has python 2.6 in it.

any suggestions?

I've only used Internal with Blender so far. I used 2.5 64-bit and it seems there's difficulty getting external renders to work with in. YafaRay looks familiar to other engine's i've used in the past, so i'm definitely interested, for higher raydepth and things like that.

i wasted aound 6 hours of my life installing +uninstalling yayfaray and got absolutely nowhere! my new years resolution for 2010 was to stop trying to get yafaray to work! do something useful instead. maybe i'll have another crack at it now? thanks, great tut.

Some of the examples on the site look GREAT...it would help if I could model anything, but it looks like it has a lot of potential. I've been looking for something that can change the color of shadow on the object-material itself, maybe this one can do that... but I won't know until I can actually make something first anyway, eh-heh..

is yafaray faster than the default renderer?

@ThomasWilliamSweet That depends on what you're doing. It's more like Yafaray gives you features not found in Blender internal, like caustics, photon mapping, and path tracing. And the ray tracing isn't the same either. So it's like comparing apples to oranges.

I'm just now getting into external renderers but not yafaray, at least not in a awhile, I just started playing with luxrender and renderman... I like luxrender best so far.

@SavageDogg38 It appears that the tight integration between 2.49 and Yafaray is going away in 2.5.  The new External Render of Choice is Povray. Is Yafaray going to be enhanced, or is it on the way out?

@irakrakow: isn't pov only available by default, to give an example, AFAIK it has nothing to do with renderer of choice.

Beside this it's a personal choice ;) Depends on what you are familiar with or what renderer provides you the features you need ... Yafaray, Luxrender, VRay and many others.

@irakrakow Yafaray's 2.5 export script is currently in development. There's few threads on blenderartists and the yafaray site, so google the threads if you wanna follow them. There's an unofficial export out right now, and it doesn't look bad.

@mIaIcIeIs I was using Maya, just playing around. I was aware of a blender to renderman project but haven't looked into it much. I didn't want to do too much work, I just wanted to see a few renders and go on to the next renderer if you know what I mean, just window shopping. I do like it though, it's awesome. I got Aqsis but haven't opened it up yet to see what is inside. I need to check out this blender to renderman, sounds promising.
