I absolutely love this song. But Jeff Buckley's version is better in my opinion. All he has is a guitar; the pain and agony in his voice is just so beautiful. It makes me feel his pain. This is a fantastic song and credit to Cohen for writing it...but it's also one of the worst versions. For some reason John Cale then Jeff Buckley were able to bring out its full beauty similar to Hendrix with All Along the Watchtower and Joe Cocker With a Little Help From My Friends. Very occasionally a composer unearths a gem and despite their own talents they fail to polish it themselves.
