  • beautiful

  • it awsome

  • Although many people may say that the covers sound better than the original, and I have to say I'm particularly fond of Rufus Wainwright's cover, when Cohen sings this song, I can really feel the power he's singing it with. I really love this song, in any version. The meaning stays the same, no matter who sings it.

  • best version i've ever heard- like they say nothing beats an original

  • luvvv this song

  • deeper voice than i expected and din't live up to my expectations but two words fuckin' WOW

  • Freaking watchmen brought me here, thank you:')

  • Tonight, I drew the Hallelujah from my wife's lips....... She's not a church goer or a Cohen fan, so the hear her say this word, when we just ....well you know ;-) ...... was quite unexpected. I immediately thought of this song, and died laughing, nekkid on the bed. She didn't realize what had happened or why, but she started laughing too. It was flippin' awesome!!!!

  • it's good, but I like Jeff Buckley's cover better

  • @Asphodelon nobody asked ur opinion...

  • Great voice, and ghreat singer, but the most important thing, is that the song have meaning. Leonard wrote them himself, and believe it or not, It makes a huge difference

  • Leonard Cohen created the template for REM and so many modern dark bands and singers. Cool guy. Thank goodness for him and Dylan.

  • Por Nearly Famous esta hermosa esta canción

  • Saying anyone does this " Better " than Mr Cohen only means they have a better voice perhaps. The heart and soul belongs to Leonard. Hundreds of people have covered " Michelle" by the Beatles but only Paul is the best

  • Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan are the best songwriters EVER...

  • belo cover do Sherek

  • A friend of mines Mom (r.i.p.) actually turned down Leonard Cohen when he tried to date her. She said he was was too egotistical. - true story.

  • Leonard is the only one who does it right. His music is food for soul. Funny fact is that I wouldn't know Leonard without Finnish singer Jarkko Martikainen. He mentioned in one song and I had to find out what kind of music this guy does. And I'm very happy about it!

  • just listened to about 12 versions of this song. This is by far the best...to my taste anyway.

  • Sorry, but Jeff Buckleys cover version is much better! :)

  • Now I love Cohen. But I have to say that the best ever version of this song is by Amanda Palmer. The passion leaves Leonard in the dust. Seriously, check it out.

  • We're lucky to be living in the same time and space as someone this passionate about love, life and music. Long may he reign.

  • fighting with in self yes God thas exist hallelujah

  • Great song. Cohen sounds phenomenal.he sings the song with such passion, that really builds to a crecendo. I don't really know what version I like the most, but I love this song, and love this version. Leonard Cohen had blessed the human race with a masterpiece. thank you.

  • I never tire of listening to this man and this song. Love it love it love it

  • Check out our Bards of Bywater Tribute To Leonard Cohen at KICKSTARTER.

  • Omg i was holding my guitar and almost dropped it

  • @gleekmomo16 me too i wont be able to play till tomorrow

  • *speachless*,,,, just... *speachless* I can die happy now :-)

  • THE SHOW MUST GO ON!!!

    HALLELUJAH!!!

  • god i'm going to cry... he reminds me of my bampie TT^TT

  • wow

  • his voice has always rocked my soul...

  • My husband.

  • I absolutely love this song. But Jeff Buckley's version is better in my opinion. All he has is a guitar; the pain and agony in his voice is just so beautiful. It makes me feel his pain. Kinda like Adele when she sings. Look it up. If you want to hear a beautiful version, you owe it to yourself. Oh, and Josh Krajcik's version is amazing too. Maybe even more so.

  • give me Leonard Cohen afterworld.

  • i just LOVE his hat!

  • @pierrepartysquad1 older man living how he was raised. It's a fedora or tribly. I can't really tell the brim width. You can buy one online under $40.

  • @grimel2 Jackass.

  • @MadameMournington Usually, but, why this time?

  • chalk another one up for canada

  • I sat down on the couch with my girlfriend earlier today, we hugged each other, had a blanket over us and listened to different versions of this song. We have been together for almost 6 months but we are drifting apart and are headed for a break-up...

  • Comment removed

  • @trinix777 You can save it man, just surprise her, go skydiving idk just fucking do what you can do to keep it together loosing someone you love is the worst pain in the world!

    fight for it.

  • @cinamin45

Well, yeah, you are right, I should try and save it. I've thought about what to do for some time now but it's kinda hard, she says that she doesn't have the same feelings for me anymore. I've really tried to be a good boyfriend and did a lot of changes in myself during our relationship to make it work better, but it's just not enough. I just don't want it to end, I love her, and also because we study together in the same classroom and we have a lot of friends in common.

  • @trinix777 Well if she does not have the same feelings. Let her go immediately. Do not beg, hang or plead as it is week. Be a man and just say NEXT! She will then question the break up. Women want men not mice. Be macho, tell her you love her and agree for the break up. That will rock her world. Act gentlemanly and show integrity. Be kind and thank her for the wonderful times. Now go and enjoy your day with your phone off. Keep em hanging.

  • @cupdlrow

Yeah, I kinda wish I could do so... but I kinda think that this all thing with being nice is so overrated and in a way pretty weak. If we brake up, it feels like I just want to forget her and never see her again, she broke my heart and left me depressed, I can't move on if I see her all the time since we study in the same classroom and have way too many friends in common. Fuck that, I wish things could be better for the coming 3 months, then we both will move to other cities.

  • @trinix777 You are only headed for a break up if you think that way. Stop the crap grow the bloody hell up and tell her you want her to be the mother of your children.

Love is simple. Its a gift! Dont take it for granted!

  • @cupdlrow

Well, yeah, you are right, I should try and save it. I've thought about what to do for some time now but it's kinda hard, she says that she doesn't have the same feelings for me anymore.

  • Amazing song. You should check out the cover of this by Michael Henry and Justin Robinett, it's really good :)

  • STFU with the background vocals. Cant hear the man,

  • @rawdog42 It doesnt matter, he cant sing alone...fact

  • Please check out my instrumental cover

    /watch?v=eeW0syCjQr4

  • After waiting 30 minutes for this to load my mouse pad makes me accidentally click the fucking LMFAO add while the page was lagging, get that shit out of here.

  • brilliant.

  • This man is incredible.. so much talent in such a humble package... and so very happy that my parents introduced me to Mr. Cohens music when I was a child! I am now doing the same for my child!!!

  • I listened to a BBC Radio 2 interview and he said he wrote about 19 versus to this song but had to cut it down. i just wish somewhere there was a recording of all the versus, this song is just so special.

  • I've always been a huge Cohen fan (thanks mainly to my mum) but felt, begrudgingly, that Buckley had the edge on this one. Until the night I was lucky enough to see this performance live. Write a song that has the heavens opening in recognition, watch others interpret, brood on and rework it, and then come back at the age of 70+ to show the truth. This is the reclaiming of a song.

  • 0.0

  • This Song is my song i will play it when i have sex with my wife and other 18 year olds so there

  • Which scales on a guitar can I use to improvise over this song? Like the organ player does.

  • @Strijkspray It says it right in the song; The fourth, the fifth, the minor fall, the major lift.

  • @HjFUN1 Oooh i see. Lol I'm not really familiar with music theory. I know it's in the key of C and I know the chord progression because I like to play it acoustic fingerstyle, but i'm not sure which scales to use. C major pentatonic works for a starter but I was wondering if there are more scales that work with this song :-) But thanks for your comment.

  • EPIK SONG. THE BEST ON THE WORLD

  • Is anyone else reminded ever so slightly of Dustin Hoffman?

  • cool!!!

  • How can there be a Party Rock LMFAO advertisement here on a great song by a great man?

  • Such a sexy song when Cohen sings it. I cant listen to any other versions, even if they are good. They don't compare.

  • Am I the only one who finds it odd that the original writer of this song has less views than the covers? Usually it would be the other way around xD

  • Yes, Canada gave the world Nickleback, Celin Dion, Avril Lavigne, and Bryan Adams, we also gave you this guy! I hope they cancel each other out. ;)

  • @bluenoserr Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot, and the list goes on...

  • Only Cohen is able to do it right. I get chills runging allover my body every time I listen to this. Simply brilliant!

  • Respect !!!!!!!!

  • This is one of the best inspirational songs i've ever heard! This version is the best!

  • WohW! ^_^

  • Wow!

  • Fantastic, and great rendering. I've seen a few negative comments, to which I only respond:"Look around until you find someone doing it with ear breaking, 55 street dancers, girls humping the air; maybe you'll like it then! lol"

  • Hallelujah is great and inspirational, it gave many courage and others the strength to go on. Truly a great song.

  • great writer, but he sounds like a fart. the covers and (I would say) re-compositions are better

  • @sTapleEVA There are some good covers, for sure(Jeff Buckley's being the best,) but this is still my favorite version ^.^

  • @bearo657 NOT>>>

  • @bearo657 you can't fathom the amount of hatred I have just rendered for you

  • This is a fantastic song and credit to Cohen for writing it...but it's also one of the worst versions. For some reason John Cale then Jeff Buckley were able to bring out its full beauty similar to Hendrix with All Along the Watchtower and Joe Cocker With a Little Help From My Friends. Very occasionally a composer unearths a gem and despite their own talents they fail to polish it themselves.

  • הללויה.

    From Israel.

  • @ineedbamba நான் வருந்துகிறேன் உங்கள் மொழியில் பேச முடியாது

  • @skeeble88

    It's "Hallelujah" in Hebrow :

    הללויה.

  • How can a mortal write something like this?

  • @RickWilliamsPhoto lol implying Cohen is mortal?

  • @RickWilliamsPhoto No, Leonard Cohen is a most certainly in cahoots with some major heavenly players <3

  • @RickWilliamsPhoto Leonard Cohen is immortal! (You knew this was coming)

  • @RickWilliamsPhoto u make it sound like your not mortal O_o

  • @RickWilliamsPhoto Leonard Cohen is inmortal.

  • Haaaaaalleeeeeeelujaaaaaaaaah

  • wow an 72 years old man sings so alllellooya

  • @dan75pl 77*

  • @gtrblues83 you're right. cohen wrote it. i guess i'm just more moved by jeff buckley's version

  • The legend Leonard Cohen

  • pięknie...

  • Bamfest old man alive!

  • I went to his concert in perth with my mum two years ago and i swear i was the youngest in the crowd by 20 years

  • thumbs up when you go to here a beautiful song like this and than an ad comes on for today's pop crap.

  • 349 r devil worshipers or deaf cuz this is beautiful

  • jeff buckley > leonard cohen

  • @uvacavalier23 You do realize that the only reason the song was there for Jeff to play was because Leonard wrote it write? I like Jeff's too, but give the man some credit here...

  • There are people that like it and people that don't. Either you get L.C. or you don't. But regardless of whether you get him or not it does not make you an idiot. Some people have blue for a favorite color and some prefer red or green. You are not an idiot for having one of those preferences...unless your favorite color is turquoise in which case you are an idiot. That color is hideous.

  • @acswatley OK, in this case, I´am an idiot. And what about violett?

  • they are 349 idiots that don't like this

  • Classy, timeless, what a voice and mucical piece.

  • This music is too beautiful..how could people dislike this???

  • Comment removed

  • Cohen....awesome.....purely awesome, and timeless.

@norberhuis1, one cannot spend a life in grief of what was not, rather rejoice in living and being. We are faulted with guilt. I am now alone, I have had three wives, two gave me beautiful/wonderful children, the last was my soul mate....and died only a year after we wed. I share daily, the happiness spent with all three.... as that is my life.

  • no i have a wife and child, but they don't live with me anymore. And the main reason for that is the kind of business i do

  • @norberhuis1 , could there ever be a change or reunion?

  • @dozesof i wish, because not only she is the mother of my daughter but also the love of my life. But this is one wish that will never come trough

  • i love this song with all my hearth, where i come from i'm a big man, people look up too me with fear and respect, but when i come home late at night or early in the morning too a empty house, i play this song and remember what i really wanna be, just a simple man with a normal life, a wife and kids who are waiting for me, but not what i am today...........

  • @norberhuis1, sorry to hear of this kind of sadnes in your life. And yes a song to reflect upon. i, a simple man, have not amounted to high places. is it too late to have wife and children?

  • no words

  • kd lang's version in the most amazing one I have ever heard.

  • little do people know, the whole song is about sex...

  • @skelitack I think that's a basic assumption for every cohen song.

  • @skelitack and the price for stolen sex.. think: king david.

  • He eascaped from Holocaust !!

  • They need u at Holocaust !!

  • damien rice's version of this song is probably the most amazing thing i've ever heard

  • a great song

  • Not sure if I like Leonard Cohen original or the version of Jeff Buckley's version...

  • LC the master still.

  • Sublime and magnificent.

  • i love the song and yea the girl in the middle.

  • He is over 10 years older than the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, 7 years older than Bob Dylan, 1 year older than Elvis Presley. He is Leonard Cohen.

  • i love him.

  • Comment removed

  • who is that organ player!!......blows my mind....

  • whoever sings the song im sure u will find that cohen benefits someway

  • lol im 62 i kno who sang the original, it the best version thats what im sayin

  • @BlastemHigh haha you have to hear how dumb you sound, telling a man who created these songs to not sing them so someone else can gain from his own work.

  • @Metallicapocalypse Well it seems that nearly all the artists that've covered his songs sing them better! When i heard him do this it was a shock.....like man, you should just retire andcollect the royalties.

  • @BlastemHigh yah i hear you, i expected you to react like most people on youtube do, bravo

  • lol this is the best version of this by far

  • @MrLegionlad This is the original singer lol
