The USSR wasn't socialist, hell they weren't even communist. And right now, America would just be much better off by, for example, using socialized medicine. You get what medicine you need for free by the government without having to pay $1000 sums for it. That's what socialized medicine really is. And it works great over here in Europe.

Here is the problem with Socialized Healthcare in America. We have it in the military. It's bogged down with bureaucratic nonsense. The failings of the relatively small military healthcare make imagining it on the large scale give me a headache. But if it hurts too much I can go pay my doctor $25 to fix it. Health Insurance rocks. I know my doctor, and he gets payed quite well to keep me healthy, and I can sue for malpractice. Which is a real pain with a government. So, you get what you pay for.
