  • I have to say that I watched his video from when he was 4 1/2 yrs old & when I saw this video .... I cried!! He made such amazing progress & it was so inspiring to me. My son is 4 1/2 yrs old right now & talks just like Oscar did when he was 4 1/2. He has gotten therapy since 1 1/2 yrs old, but progress is very slow with this condition. It's very frustrating because you want to make them better overnight. I would love any advice you can give as to how you made so much progress. Thanks!!

  • This is very encouraging. Great job both mom and son!

  • He is very intelligent and a great little guy!!

  • @KidStarInterviews Thank you! :-)

  • HI GREAT IMPROVEMENT

MY SON IS SIMILAR TO YOUR SON AGE 4.5 HE IS 4 THIS MONTH

any recomendations that could help us with him

  • Wow!! great improvement in a year... my son is 4 and talks like Oscar talked at 4.

Thx a lot for sharing ur experience... I hope 4 the best for my kid... after seeing this improvement.

    God Bless Oscar.

  • wow this is consolation to so many moms out there fretting over their child with sd. my 4 year old sounds just like your son when he was 4. but seeing ur son at 5 is amazing. he's not even supposed to spell and read so well! congratz, youre an awesome mom.

  • wow he has made amazing progress! im so happy for you both :)

  • wow this has just brought tears to my eyes! How amazing. My son is 3.2 and is just about able to say a handful of single words. Thank you for posting this - what an inspiration, it certainly gives you hope!

  • I'm a mom to a 5 year old son, also diagnosed with Apraxia of Speech. I'm so excited to see progress like Oscar's! Suuuuch a big difference in one year's time. You and his teachers have done a great job! Thanks for sharing Oscar's videos.

  • I am sooo happy I found this video. I was watching your son @ 4 1/2 and he sounds so much like my 3 year old son especially when he sang the wheels on the bus song. LOL He's been in speech therapy for over a year and nobody has mentioned Apraxia.

  • thank you

  • Thank you for posting this video of your sweet boy Oscar. When saw the first video you posted when Oscar was 4 1/2 I was shocked because he sounded exactly like my daughter. My daughter was diagnosed with Apraxia very early on (2 yrs). Ppl. used to say she'll develop at her own pace but I just knew something wasn't right. She's been receiving speech therapy and one on one teaching since then and now she is 5 years old and has made a tremendous improvement. Thank you again & please keep us posted

  • My 2 year 10 month old son was just diagnosed with Apraxia. He has maybe 15-20 words. He has been doing OT and speech therapy for 10 months already due to a previous mis-diagnosis of Autism. What techniques did you find to be most effective in teaching your son to speak. thanks you so much for taking the time to respond!

  • wat r wonderful mom n son..i'm proud of u 2.such a amazing mom n adorable + smart boy....i'm happy when i saw Oscar was 4 1/2 n a great improvement on this one...

  • wow! i am a student for psychology in Israel. was going through different you-tubes studying for my finals. ran into this amazing boy and his mother. just wanted to say how wondeful this is. you are an amazing mother!

  • what amazing progress! Well done Oscar, mum and teachers. I am sure this video update will give lots of parents hope that their kid's apraxia will get better in time. Thanks for posting an update.

  • Wow, Oscar's progressed so much, and I can see that he's a really adorable and intelligent child! I think many of these children can live great lives if there's early intervention. My ambition is to be a paediatric SLT when I grow up (well, it can't really be 'when I grow up' since I'm already 18. hehe.)

  • @cantabile91 thank you and good luck on your goal, work hard and anything is possible :-)

  • @SweetAngel16r Thank you - he has had the best teachers and therapist I could have ever asked for. :-) not to mention Oscar being so eager to learn and always striving to get it all right - he has never given up or been negative about anything in his 6 1/2 years.

  • Oh goodness! He is so adorable! And so smart! Thank you for posting this video, it is truly inspiring. He must be so grateful to have a great mom like you! :)

  • @spoonerd11

Thank you! I will be posting another video soon since its been a year since the last. He is getting ready to exit special ed day class ( right now he spends 50% of class time there ) and going into general ed all day for second grade! :-) Only things he will continue to receive are resource when needed and speech.

  • :) well done Oscar Hidalgo

  • Thank you so much for your videos. My goddaughter was diagnosised with apraxia until she turned 5. She is also doing speech therapy and making progress everyday. We have found that sign language actually tends to hold her back, it is used with her younger brother who was 15wks premature and is partially deaf and cannot speak. The rule for my goddaughter at this point is that she must also attempt to speak the word/sentence when asking for something.

  • AMAZING! Oscar is so smart! My son was just diagnosed with apraxia at 31 months. I'm so happy to see Oscar's progression, and in just one year :) I also share MultiSarahanne's concerns, thanks for the response.

  • Hi, my wife and I have 3 children.2 daughters, 10 and 7, and our son Xavier is 4 1/2 has been diagnosed with speech dyspraxia, but he sounds and acts exactly as Oscar did in the video from one year ago. Xavier is in in his second year of a special PreK program where he gets group and individual help. The last year of progress has been amazing for him, and this video is so reassuring that more is to come, as Xavier is not yet writing much or reading at all, though he desire to is very strong.

  • This video is very inspiring. Brought me to tears literally.

My son Collin was(4) was just diagnosed with severe Apraxia 4 weeks ago.He sees a Speech Pathologist once a week. Like Oscar he is very intelligent. Can count to 20, knows his ABCs, basic math and can write out simple words including his name. My biggest fear has been school and the ridicule he will face. Canyou please tell me how his peers treat him and do his teachers know enough about Aparixa to help?

  • Why only once a week if its severe?

When Oscar started school he went into an all day special ed class for K. He had/still has an amazing teacher who knew how to work with him very well and is super nice. This year for 1st he is half general and half special ed. He has the same SE teacher as last year and also the general ed teacher - again who is great. They both work well with him as does the speech therapist at the school.

  • When it comes to being made fun of - the worst he has received so far was his peers telling him he wasnt saying the right words or that he was saying them wrong. That happened in the genreal ed class. He did get upset and cry about it but the teachers spoke with the other kids right away and explained a little about Oscar to them and they have not done anything negative towards him since. He does however prefer the special ed class over the general ed class cause its more individual.

  • Thank you so much for posting this! What an approvment. My son was diagnosed 2 weeks ago at the age of 4.

He like Oscar is very intelligent. Can count to 20, knows all his shapes, simple adding, ABCs and can print his name very clearly. His Apraxia is severe and I have been very worried.

Can you please tell me how the other children at school treat him???? My biggest fear is the ridicule he will face by his peers.

This video is very inspiring. It is obvious you are a GREAT mom!

  • Wow I'm totally amazed. What a smart kid and the progress he made is astonishing. I'm totally blown away.

  • Wow I'm absolutely blown away by the progress your son has made withing just ONE year.

He is so smart and he is now so easy to understand and he pronounces his name so well! And he can read better than many second graders that I know - and he is just 5!

I am totally stunned. Wonderful video, thanks for sharing

  • He reads very well! That's wonderful. What a great mom.

  • Thank you :-)

  • How wonderful!!! Oscar you are doing GREAT...I am a speech therapist who works with older children with apraxia. Oscar's intensive therapy will enable him to REACH FOR THE STARS!!! :) Or the Moon!!! Have a great summer!!! You are SOOOOO smart!!!

  • Wow Oscar you have come so far! My son is almost 4 and is just starting to really talk. He was diagnosed with Apraxia real young at 2, he did not say a word until after his second birthday. I remember watching the fist video of little Oscar and thinking someday Jack will talk that good, and now he is! it is so great to see what I have to look forward too. Please keep updating.

  • Amazing!!! He has improved 100%! Wonderful,....may God continue to bless you! :0)

  • Good job Oscar !!

    keep posting his progress regularly

    Thanks for sharing

  • This is good to see!! Our 2 1/2 year old has been diagnosed with mild apraxia. Was Oscar's apraxia considered mild when he was diagnosed? I ask because I would like to see our daughter get to his level of speech and if he was mild then I have something to compare that is similar.

  • Oscar was originally diagnosed just before the age of 3 as having a severe speech deficit. He was talking actually ahead for his age - but when he hit about 16 months he just stopped talking. Everything became "dthis" and he could say "mom". But the developmental delay specialist ruled out autism but no one knows what caused the regression in the first place ;-( I tell everyone to just get as much help as you can - the earlier you help your child the better.
