No-one can conduct a war without the support of the majoirty of its population to provide physical and moral support. Dresdeners fully supported their beloved Fuehrer as long as his invasions of other countries was going well. @TheFirstApparition, Most good historians writing in English (Gilbert, Hastings, Kershaw, etc) accept and openly discuss the allies crimes. There is however no moral equivalence between allied bombing and the slaughter of the Jews. 120,000 allied airmen died in the air war over Germany. How many SS men died killing Jews in Auschwitz, Treblinka, Chelmo, Babi Yar, Majdanek, usw? That bombing campaign was deeply flawed, especially carpet bombing cities, but it did help end the war.

In fact, Germany sent consulates to Russia, Britain, and France telling them to suspend the mobilization of their armies with in 12 hours or they would mobolize there's. The allies prevoked ww2 with the treaty of Versailles. Oh and Hitler dealt with 3 months of British bombing raids on civilian locations in Germany before he even dropped one bomb on a civilian location in Britain.

The 240,000 who were killed in Warsaw (wiki) by the Luftwaffe in Sept 1939 did not deserve to be killed nor did the hundreds of thousands murdered by Einsatzgruppen nor the millions, shot, gassed, hung, beaten or starved to death in the camps but they died nonetheless. Those who died in London by the V2 rockets which were still falling while Dresen was being bombed did not deserve to die. Boming stopped the poison gas made in Chemische Fabrik Goye in Dresden from killing many more people.

@atahun My maternal Grandfather served his country in the RAF. If it was the 1930s not 2010 I would like to think that I would have volunteered for service in the RAF just as my Grandfather did. As for the people of Russia, I know that Joe Stalin was a Georgian, and a Freemason, and he robbed banks to help fund the Communists party - so don't generalise about Freemasonary. No-one can conduct a war without the support of the majoirty of its population to provide physical and moral support. Dresdeners fully supported their beloved Fuehrer as long as his invasions of other countries was going well. It was only when it was Dresdenrs and not Londoners, Russians or Warsawers that were being killed that their support wavered. In return, the Wehrmacht took their anti-aircraft guns for their own protection - they had very good reason to be afraid of the Russians.

@TheFirstApparition, Most good historians writing in English (Gilbert, Hastings, Kershaw, etc) accept and openly discuss the allies crimes. There is however no moral equivalence between allied bombing and the slaughter of the Jews. 120,000 allied airmen died in the air war over Germany. How many SS men died killing Jews in Auschwitz, Treblinka, Chelmo, Babi Yar, Majdanek, usw? That bombing campaign was deeply flawed, especially carpet bombing cities, but it did help end the war.

@TheFirstApparition, this 'spark' which set of Kristallnacht wasn't the shooting of a German Diplomat in Paris, it was years of conditioning and anti Jewish propaganda by the Nazis. Kristallnacht was no spontaneous rising, most of those who took part were fascists operating under orders and sanctioned by the head of the racist state, Hitler himself. The Police didn't rstore order. Why? It was and remains a stain on European history.

The anti-Jewish conditioning has far longer historical roots than the Nazi's, who just continued and intensified what came before. Read 'Foundations of the 19th Century" by H.S. Chamberlain, for example.

By cutting a group who made up less than 1% of the population out of National life, by blaming them for everything from Bolshevism, Capitalism to the iniquitous Versailles treaty was evil. The holocaust wasn't some masterplan, it developed stage by stage and the Nuemberg laws were one stage on the road that led a cultured nation into an abyss where they murdered millions.

Other nations refused to accept Jewish immigration, Canada, US, etc. Brit refusal to talk to Eichmann and Hagen visiting Palestine (1937). All closed the alternate exits to the road to Auschwitz. All I would like to see is the bare bones of the TRUE story, -- and similar TRUE stories, (Bengal starvation by Churchill, Gulags, etc etc.) The Israelis know who Gendrik Yagoda and his predominantly Jewish NKVD generals were with the camps. Do you? I do want to see Germans treated the same as others and a TRUE balanced set of historical accounts.

The plaque at Auschwitz read "4 million" for decades. Now it reads "1.2 million". The Polish Auschwitz trial (47/48) settled on 387,000 deaths. The "witness" accounts at Nuremberg were in some cases absolutely outrageous lies. (Litwinska/Bimko etc.) I would like the TRUTH of it, and ONLY the TRUTH. Do you know it? Is Goldhagen right?

What happened in Dresden was a tragedy and unecessary. Some say...'' if you dance with Chimney Sweeps you get dirty'' but the war was almost over by February 1945 and the huge allied air forces had nothing left worth bombing so they chose Dresden. Very sad.
