when i started playing jazz, your books were some of my first tools! mister Morgen,it's a privilege to see you playing all those beautiful arrangements of standards... all the best to you.
Stunning - so imaginative - I love the use of the open notes and those tiny bits of dissonance. I have a book by Howard Morgen and its brilliant - Arranging for Jazz Guitar - some really great tips in it folks - recommended.
This is pure magic. What a treat for the ears. Another masterclass in harmony. I hear you using some of the bass movement ideas you explain so well in your book. I notice your right hand usage is almost apollando. On your single lines your finger comes to rest on the a lower string after plucking a note. I'm not certain why but it produces a slightly different timbre to my ear. Almost a different color. Cool. I just tried that and it's harder than it looks.
I like the new backdrop. Love how you open up the mysteries of the fret board at the same time playing so soulful. You are a master of this world of standards... the harmony, the composing that seems endless in possible interpretations. Thanks for the experience. As we age we fear becoming irrelevant but a guy like you points to what is musically universal. Thanks for putting your gifts out there.
Every time I see you have something new I drop everything and check it out. Amazing playing...! I have to learn how to voice on the bottom four strings, that's such an incredible sound.
RIP Howard..you were a brilliant talent and will be forever missed.
