I saw him perform this in Edinburgh in May 2010. It was phenomenal. So chilling and beautiful. I think the entire audience was in floods by the end of it! But JOJ is amazing at the more upbeat songs too....what a star!
When I first hear him, I thought he was the weakest/least impressive JvJ. These days I think he's the best. There's just something about his voice that never seems in full falsetto like the other performers do with the song. I'd say JOJ has a slightly deeper voice than the others (Colm Wilkinson, Alfie Boe and the other one) and that is the difference that makes this nicer than the others.
Definitely the best JvJ I've heard. Listening in the car he always gives me goosebumps! Going in a couple of weeks to see Ramin Karimloo play JvJ. Expecting good things from him!
Have You heard Giacomo Pinino of Western Australia sing this song (Bring Him Home on youtube )he is amazing. He sand in local amateur production food for thought
Went to London with my English class in high scool (from Denmark) and we saw les mis.It was either in 1999 or 2000 so it has to one of the two...unless of course it was the understudy.
I"m a huge Alfie fan AND this is just gorgeous. BOTH amazing. BOTH brilliant, for many different and same reasons. How about not comparing anymore, but just absolutely loving that we are fortunate to have these amazing artists in our lives?
I think he is A LOT better than Alfie actually! Alfie sounds very majestetic and has an awesome voice, but there is something about John Owen-Jones that is magical. He is the only person that has made me cry by simply listening to him sing :)
He came to my school and sang this to the cast members like a month ago. He went to college with my chorus teacher and he heard we were doing les mis, so he came and sang like every song, and helped us out with songs!. When he sang this half the girls were balling there eyes out and the rest of the room was in aw. He sounds amazing in person and its like he puts a spell over the room! :) im so glad i got to see him in person!
@hecate235 how on earth you can say 'Alfie does blow him out of the park' .. absolutely ridiculous!! Alfie Boe, yes he has a good operatic voice, but you can't even compare him to JOJ when it comes to Bring Him Home!!!
By the way if you guys are interested, i was gavroche in this with John Owen Jones 5 years ago. He is possibly the most inspirational man i've met. To sing alongside him is none less than an honour.
@JGGreyhound U know you are really blessed. First, is because you acted alongside John Owen Jones and second is because you can add Les miserables in your resume! Really envious..............
I love John's interpretation of this song the best - while Colm and Alfie are of course amazing, I just love the sheer amount of emotion John puts into it. Exquisite, and I think just right.
I got the chance to see him in Les Mis before it closed... OMG. You think this is amazing. Live, he is breath taking. Everytime he opened his mouth, even just breath, I started sobbing.
I saw him live in the 25th anniversary tour. He was so amazing, i was blown away completely! And I sat in 2nd row... he was right in front of me, singing at me OMG...
John Owen-Jones is such a fantastic singer! and the perfect Jean Valjean! or I have not seen him in the role, but I have the tour cast recording and his voice is perfect for Valjean! I love his version of Bring Him Home!
@Muffinman25190 I was wondering that too! But I'm pretty sure it is. They sang One Day More together at another point during the same concert, so it would make sense if it was. :)
John Owens-Jones is going to kill me because every time I listen to this song I almost forget to breathe. He takes an already beautiful song and refines it to such a purity that it is simply stunning.
I've been taking lessons for about 5 years now and getting so much improvement in my own voice. JOJ is such an inspiration and this piece of all my repertoire is the pinnacle. I don't think I'll ever get there as he has - but I continue to strive! Thanks for sharing. This is the gold standard for this song. Light - airy - powerful- natural - classic technique and I can feel the emotion every time.
1 of the most incredible thing about joj may be his voice, but theres also 1 more thing...i watched 2 show on the 25th tour, once in paris, once in london, and when i listened to his old videos i was shocked that they were almost exactly the same-amazing consistancy
I saw him in the role of Valjean on Broadway. Judy Kuhn was playing Fantine at the time. It was the best theatrical and musical experience of my life.
this is amazing as always, i saw him live when he toured with les mis for the 25th anniversary, for anyone who felt emotional during this MUST see him live, i was in absolute floods of tears by it, so so so amazing i am his number one fan! i love hiM!
I heard and saw him for the first time at the Faenol Festival. It was a very impressive and memorable performance. You could have heard a pin drop while he was singing and the applause was deafening. For me, one of the highlights of the Festival.
I LOVE John Owen Jones! I have seen him twice, first at Queens Theatre July 2005 and i was lucky enough then to have a ticket that included a drink with some of the cast members afterwards so i actually met him and got him to sign my programme. I recently saw him in the touring version in Southampton, 28th Aug 2010 and i am so glad he played Valjean both times!
Just seen John Owen-Jones playing Jean Valjean in Manchester today he was simply amazing, his voice was electrifying,he was awesome(Les Mis was absolutely brilliant)
I never really used to appreciate this song. Then I saw Les Mis in London in 2006, heard John sing it, and--well, my mind was pretty much blown. Beautiful voice and a spectacular (albeit incredibly young) Valjean!
like most musical singers of today,Barrowman,Ball and co. they have not got very good vibrato control or power, and of course you almost always have to be a mincer to get a lead role in the West End.
A few years back I saw the Phantom of the Opera, and the Phantom was absolutely incredible, but I never found out who the performer was. Now I know... Saw the Mis yesterday in Paris (without even knowing beforehand that JOJ was Valjean)... amazing, I recognized his voice right away. I can't believe how lucky I am to have been able to see him twice without even meaning to XD
John Owen Jones has been bringing audiences to tears in Paris, at the Châtelet Theatre for a month now. He's singing in Les Misérables until July 4th. I saw it, and I'm going back tonight and Sunday.
A fantastic show, JOJ being the highlight. A wonderful discovery for me.
Just saw him in Paris, and hearing him sing this song is just... impossible to describe, no recording can do justice to the mine bogling experience this was live (I think you can hear it in the chearing of the audience tough!!)
Ive just played the part of Valjean in york id a loved every second of it!! It is such and amazing part to play!! I hope one day i could play it on the west end oh that would be an ultaimte dream! If you can would u mind watching me singing bring him home at my first rehearsal of this song comment and rate!! Colm is an extremley hard act to follow and this rehearsal clip is by far no my best performance of but its the only one i have, Christian x TYPE IN: Christian Lunn Bring Him Home
i agree that colm wilkensons voice seems more like what the character of jean valjean would have, but upon seeing owen-jones recently in the role, i think his incredible acting and unbelievable voice amounts to a perfect portrayal of valjean. he is perfect!
I saw him recently too, I had tears in my eyes simply from how amazing his voice is in this song. I've never heard anyone with a better voice in my life!
I recently saw him live at the Edinburgh Playhouse and i fell in love with this guy's voice, he has such a talent. I'd probably go as far to say i have NEVER seen any musical thatre performer with as much talent as this man. It's my hope to be as cool as him when i grow up xD
This is beautiful... absolutely gorgeous... Magical.

i agree that colm wilkensons voice seems more like what the character of jean valjean would have, but upon seeing owen-jones recently in the role, i think his incredible acting and unbelievable voice amounts to a perfect portrayal of valjean. he is perfect!
