Any jailbroken iphone surpasses any of these new touch screen phones. iphone 4.0 is going 2 be a hardware change... its the software that really makes the phone...multi-tasking will come with the upgrade in software not hardware... Uhm, only certain apps stay open when you leave them (safari, ipod). All others close and cannot operate in teh background. this is what it allows, to leave anything open. But if you are asking, you don't need this.

Sorry to say this but it's kinda lame considering you still have to tap on the icon of a supposedly running app (or at least that's what it looks like). I love my iPhone but my Pre kicks its ass when it comes to multi-tasking. There's nothing better than being able to just flick your thumb to switch between and exit apps with consummate ease.

If Apple has to use jailbreak ideas to add a camcorder app to 3GS then that is truly sad. As for Universal search, I believe it was demonstrated by Palm on the Pre BEFORE the iPhone 3.0 update was released. So I know exactly where I've been. People put Apple on some pedestal adding very trivial features. Multi-tasking is a lot more complicated than adding search or video recording so I will believe it when I see it and not blindly worship Apple in my anticipation for this feature.

I tried kirikae and a few other multitasking apps and they ALL slow down the phone to the point where when you scroll, it lags quite badly. I'm sure multifl0w does the same thing but I'll give it a try. The iPhone OS/hardware combination is NOT designed to support multitasking, hence Apple's decision to not officially support it.

here's the deal with this "multitasking" presented here.. all of these util apps run in the background already--or at least in a 'save last state' mode.. I can just use the home key to swtich between any of these apps and they will all be where I left them.. in the middle of a mail.. zoomed into a picture.. on one of 8 seperate windows in safari.. Seemless switching between AIM, youtube, facebook, and pandora would be a useful demo..

I don't run mail in the background - I use gmail's interface on Safari instead. If I run nothing else I can easily get about 50MB free, anything short of that and you're probably running something else unknowingly.

Kirikae allows launching apps directly from itself, and it backgrounds automatically the current app...

No need to go to the app, enable Backgrounder, return to the springboard, go in another app, enable backgrounder, etc.

You're an idiot. This uses backgrounder, it's just a way to scroll through the applications, and switch to them easily, that you have opened with backgrounder. This looks pretty cool, don't worry about price, it should be cracked, but i think kirkae is probably better, it's free and in cydia and rock, does basically the same as this, but doesn't have the fancy effects.

I was thinking exactly on the same line for iPhone for switching between open apps! I think following ideas will make it better:

1. To close the app completely can you just make it like Palm Pre OS i.e. swiping up in the app will close the app?! That way one does not have to open the app and then disable the backgrounder etc. mQuickDo has that functionality where you can just go to app switcher and drag app outside the column of open apps and it closes!
