Her voice should've held up a little better with that few dates to that point. That's 25 concerts in 5 years. Not to keep dragging Whitney into this but she's 10 times the performer Mariah is. Whitney's first tour was 68 dates, Moment of Truth Tour 153 dates, I'm Your Baby Tonight Tour 101 dates. Then she did The Bodyguard.

it's a great performance because she hit amazing notes LIVE but the song is strategically dubbed on a few parts with the "My All" from the album lowered exactly by 1 semitone. Having said that her best performance of this song were during Divas Live and SNL because pavarotti and friends which is awesome is dubbed as well. Not saying she lipsang but it was all a post production thing.

Don't know if you understand but as a musician it makes sense. When you listen to Mariah in Tokyo Dome performances for Daydream Tour, you can hear that Hero, Vision of Love and most songs are 1 semitone lower yet she hits higher notes than in the original.

When the key was lowered in tokyo dome it allowed for her to hit a higher chest note that was within her range and within the range of the song...In other words hitting that same high note in the original key would make her sound off pitch and attempting to sing the same note a semitone higher fit the original range might be out of her chest range..

And If you didn´t know recording your voice in studio might lower or make your pitch higher by a semitone or a full note. Mariah´s always been able to sing in the same key as studio, but in 98 her voice started to get heavier and she had to lower the key when singing songs of previous albums, still she could hit the notes.

Because when you lower the tessitura you sing it doesn´t mean you don´t have the higher notes, it´s just you aren´t ablet to sing in that zone anymore so you lower the key YET the belted notes are achievable. check her performance of hero in 2001, the high notes are there, still she sung in a lower tessitura than the original song. :)
