Super 8 was inspired by Spielberg's earlier amateur efforts which were filmed in Super 8 and his long-standing fascination with Aliens. You could say Firelight, Close Encounters of the Third King and Super 8 are all pretty much the same film but with adapted themes and different levels of graphics.
The great thing is, this has the quality of a sweded Close Encounters - but I'm not laughing. This is strangely awesome! Maybe it's because I know it's Spielberg, I don't know.
The reason why there is no longer film is because spielburg gave his copies to a producer who ended up going broke and running away with em. But for his first movie and havin only 500 buck, he did a damn good job
Actually the film made around seven hundred dollars during the premiere.

@hoopywilliams
Hundreds of people saw it, but it only made a profit of $1. It cost $500 to make and made $501 at Spielberg's local theatre.

It was actually seen by the public. Actually, one person. It grossed a whopping $1.

@hoopywilliams Actually it was viewed to 500 people, one dollar each, but the profit was only 1 dollar because the budget was around 500 dollars.
