I remember driving an old blue GMC truck to the grain field and having trouble crossing a muddy creek when I heard on the Radio that Elvis was gone. I told my father when I got to the field. He never allowed me to listen to Elvis...but ironicaly he seemed sad when Elvis died.
@Anthony4x4 You're absolutely correct- ELVIS' covers are BETTER than the originals. I never listened to him sing this one until tonight because I didn't like the song . But I forgot how he had this amazing ability to sing it even BETTER than the original !!! This is just another example of why ELVIS is so LOVED today
Elvis is the only entertainer to get great response for Gospel music in Las Vegas. I remember a story where some girls held up a sign at a show that said "Elvis is King." He is said to have said, "Jesus Christ is the King, I'm only an entertainer."
if there was ever a time where one could live in the past, the 70´s was the all time center vector where all did and were able to do so, how you doing there.
and i have been triying for ages to find a song by him were he is sat on the edge of a hospital bed singing about some one in the bed or something like that, if any one knows what its name is can or has any suggestions of what it might be please write back on here please thankyouuu x
Written by Hoyt Axton. MGM recorded Elviss performance of Never Been To Spain for the documentary Elvis on Tour. A few months later, RCA recorded the evening show at Madison Square Garden on June 10, 1972. Its that version that RCA released. This performance was recorded in April 1972 in San Antonio, TX and is available on Elvis Close-Up.
Hoyt's Mom Mae Axton wrote Heartbreak Hotel but had to give Elvis part songwriting credit to get him to record it. It was inspired by a suicide note that said "I walk a lonely street."
I've always admired this very fun and fabulous song a whole lot. Elvis has the very best renditions of this song for sure. As you know, the entire concert from April 18, 1972 in San Antonio, Texas is available on CD #4 of the four disc box set "Close Up" from 2003. I own that box set as well. Elvis will always be the best thing that's ever happened to the music and entertainment industries. John Lennon was absolutely right when he infamously said "Before Elvis, There Was Nothing". 10 Stars
