Definitely a porter or an intern. As a dealer tech I just touch what needs to be worked on, and if you have crap in the way I move it. I probably adjust your seat back too so I don't dent/scratch/break your kick panel with my long ass legs.
as a auto teck i first have to say he dosent look like a auto tech... he's at a dealer than has no uniform? looks like a wash boy or porter looking for paperwork like a reg or RO... lots or ignoranus comments here.
I'd go back and bring this up to management. Maybe nothing was stolen from you but maybe he was only interested in cash or jewelry and you didn't have any. I know this was posted 3 years ago, but you shouldn't just let things like this go. If you don't get people like this corrected early on they just get bolder and bolder until they really are a thief.
He does act strange. But as an Auto Technician one thing i will say is, sometimes if you have locking lug nuts on your car. The Technician will have to either ask you where the key/adapter is at or go searching himself for it if your getting your tires removed and rotated. I dont know if this is the case or not, just an FYI.
Surprise! your on candid camera!......wonder if this d!ck head even knows that he is on youtube for the world to see. Watching him, rummaging through this persons belonging wasnt a part of the job description. I dont care if your a lot runner or not. It comes down to honesty!
effin thieves!!! cant stand em!!! he wasnt admiring anything. he was lookn for something to steal!! opening compartments, and what not...i woulda whooped his azz!!!
Nothing missing is not the point. A lot runner's job is to drive the car into and out of maintainance and then run it thru the car wash. IMO, this kid was looking for something to pocket and you were wise to have the cameras. Again, IMO, just because he took nothing from your car, he may have from the next and you were stupid for not showing the video to management.
@tombeals69 When I take my car for dealer service, everything except the owner's manual and the wheel lock comes out first. I also reset the trip odometer to zero.
To me it is very suspicious that he looked around right before opening the box (can't think of what its called) and pulled the top thing out to see what's underneath. He didn't look around while messing with the other things, why look around before opening the box?
He doesn't look like a technician, probably just a hired mechanic, only to drive the cars in, not much more. Maybe wash the used cars every once in a while.
@DocentUSA No longer version. This is 3 years ago. The camera is activated by him turning the key on/off and the camera is on a timer that turns it off ~20 seconds after the ignition is turned off. This is all I ever had.
No surprise here. Many of these guys feel they have some sort of right to do this... and also thrash the chads off the cars on "road test". Needless to say, the more interesting cars get more road test. Some even get the thorough "overnight testing".
The older, more experienced guys have outgrown it and aren't interested; they just want to get the job done.
Owners with the audacity to complain about ANYTHING, are automatically deemed "fussy" or "moaning" customers.
so i got a 100 k mustang i took it to a new ford store and they let someone test drive my car and the kid crash it the car was in for a oil change i put cam in front back left and right side of the car and inside so for the $ 8000 it was worth it cus we settle out of court and my wife got a new car they gave a new mustang and i got the old one back and a check for 22k
I suppose if he could have nicked something and didn't all we can say for sure is that ratboy here is a nosy bastard. I think you were right not to report just for that.
@MOJeepr You may be right, considering he jiggled the shifter and even looked straight into the camera at one point, what I don't understand is why he opened two storage units and even took something out of one, that's not admiration, if you ask me!
hey man how or where did you get that camera. Did you install it youself? i need somehting like this. Every time i take my BMW m3 to dealer for service i get it back with more then 30 miles extra on the odo.
I would have asked this in another of your posts but the comments are turned off. In your "joyride" video, the guys talk about a "b&m" something. What is that? And I noticed that in one video the car is black and in another it's white. How many cars are outfitted with these cameras and how much was it to do? I would so love to have someone install them in my car. It already has a rear camera.
Im not argueing that the tech shouldnt have driven your car that way and he probably diserves to be punnished! but dont give us all a bad name in the process!!!!! Its hard enough to show customers we arent taking advantage of them. Let alone the fact now 44,000 people think that when we are test drivng their car we are going for a JOY RIDE!!
no not at all you just made seem that all techs screw arround in customer cars!!!! I have a great track record with customers which include 12 personal customers. but now i have people asking me if i am able to watch my employees while on test drives and my shop isnt even in delware!!!!
i mean look how bad you made ford look and all i would have taken is just alittle more of your creative editing. so what you did wasnt a bad thing its just how you neglected to keep this situation about those two techs and not the entire idustry!
Ok, I get it - you're getting all bent out of shape without even reading the comments. Seriously, read the description of the joyride video - I clearly stated that the Ford logo was a different dealership lot that the porters drive through.
Oh, he's not a tech. I've seen his type. We have guys like him working in the carwash at the BMW dealership I work for. We have had iPods taken, money taken, jewelry taken. You just can't win.
i am speaking of the joy ride video!!! this guy is just stupide!! but yet you are more worried about some one drivng your car with a heavy foot which by the way could be justified because to accurately test drive an alignment you need to GET on it alittle to check the vehicle's Thrust angle. Which im Very sure YOU would be the first to bring your car back when your A.W.D. STI sharply pulls to the left or right everytime you "GET ON IT" am i right? but yet the lot guy gets less flack for snooping
My response: How does 0-60 going from 0-60 in 6 seconds on a cold engine, twice, help reveal alignment problems? If a car drifts on acceleration that's torque steer, right? I thought torque steer was a FWD thing, not AWD thing. Anyway, if the alignment is out then that could be revealed by driving around like a normal person, yeah? You can't say he was wrong AND right at the same time. Pick a position and stick with it.
I know you didn't know this in advance, however: The accident being repaired was cosmetic front bumper/fender. The thrust angle would not be affected.
And of course he's making sure my center console doesn't contain any... Wait? What business does he have in my center console?
Next time I take my car to this place I'm gonna put something... interesting... in the center console. Any suggestions? 14" Super-long-dong dildo? Fake severed fingers? REAL severed fingers?
WOW thanks Guy! Thanks to peolpe like you!!! you know peolpe with almost unlimited funds and nothing better to do than to make other people look bad to boost there own self esteem! It makes it incredibley hard to gain customer trust!!!! Its rich stuck up snobbs like you who give the blue collar struggling men and women a hard way to go!! I mean yeah i understand where you are comming from but as a tech and a manager i would never tollerate even the talk of mistreating a customer car!!!!
ha ha... Thinks he's Nigel Mansell. Either that or he is testing your gear stick and buttons work and that your centre console opens and closes. LOL. Just shows what they do in the workshop.
