Hey mitchellpeake1626,  Bass player using a pick? You didn't watch the whole video OR listen to the Jimmy Smith original. The beginning of the song is played with a pick. If you can't tell that then you really should just give up listening at all. These guys are about as pure as you are going to get. They play with a lot more balls the the original because they're from Detroit...but you wouldn't understand that either.

Making a copycat rendition of Jimmy Smith's Root Down to place on youtube is like replicating a painting of Van Gogh's Sunflowers and placing it in the Tate Gallery for the world to view. Only the crass, self-indulgent and disrespectful would do that. The title is also misleading. Only the combo of Wilton Felder, Paul Humphrey, Arthur Adams and Jimmy Smith can show how it's done. Something to think about.

The band (Brothers Groove) in no way, performed this tune "to place on youtube" a copycat rendition of Jimmy Smiths, Root Down. I happened to capture this performance, unbeknownst to the band, and took it upon myself to post it. There are millions of covers on youtube, this is but one more, nothing more nothing less.

This is weak and self-indulgent rendition of Root Down And Get It with no soul. Root Down was the funkiest thing Smith did on Blue Note. But what do some people know. The bassist is no Wilton Felder, the drummer is no Paul Humphrey and organist is no Jimmy Smith.

This is your opinion, which you are entitled to. I am not in the band, just a friend and a fan. I will tell you that the guys idolize Jimmy Smith and only do this song as a tribute to the man and his music. They are all very humble guys. I'm sorry that you interpreted their performance the way you did. Would you please post your bands rendition of Root Down so the world can see how it should be done. Then put a note in the comments that the Jimmy Smith wrote the song. You and I both know if you put Brothers Groove instead of Jimmy Smith, you wouldn't have so many hits. If i put out a record under the name Jimmy Smith, I don't think it would hold up in court if I said, well he wrote the songs!

If you watch the whole video (which you obviously did not) you will see that the bass player gets rid of the pick at 2:13 just like in the original version.
